Back in June, I got to link up with one of my favorite musicians, Goth Babe on the Oregon coast. We got to fish the coastal streams around the area and I even got to try my shot at surfing for the first time. Griff (AKA ‪@gothbabemusic755‬) is one of the kindest and most talented people I've met and I'm lucky to call him a friend. He shares some inspiring wisdom on balancing your work with play and how he's been able to grow in his craft as a musician. Enjoy!

Holy F**k. Thank you Wild Fly. Thank you Goth Babe. Every new Wild Fly video that comes and is always my "new favorite". This was no exception. So much more than just fishing. Life experiences and not being to hung up on monetary value. Scotty and Sam, yall are both such talented film makers & story tellers. Thank you for building & creating something so much more than fishing. I absolutely love seeing Griff in his nature habitat and just being himself. No mask, no major media. Scottie, this might be one of your greatest pieces of art yet. I can’t put into words how well this episode was put together. Between the story telling, music video directing with the goth babe crew footage, and production…well done. Your abilities as a creative are endless. In time, those of us here now will look back on this wild fly chapter of your life as an early chapter in what will be a long and great book.

This video tugged on all my heart strings. Being a surfer myself I find a lot of similarities between fly fishing and surfing; the fleeting moments of ecstasy contrasted by days of getting skunked. To me the key to preventing burn out is the constant pursuit of serenity in these (or whatever) activities knowing that they aren’t a guaranteed success on a given day. I can rinse repeat at my day job knowing that a redbow like that one might lay just around the bend, or that tomorrow might be the day I get the set wave. Please keep up these incredible productions, you’ve gained a forever fan. PS I was already a fan of Goth Babe, now that I’ve “met” Griff, the hook is set!

Another exquisite human story from Wild Fly. Life woven through fly fishing, and sewed to the soul. PS...those redband bow's are some of the toughest bow's in the United States. I always thought Kenai River rainbows had the glory...but i was dead wrong.

Bloody hell mate. Your vids just keep getting better and better. That ending was so so good. Such true words spoken. I've recently been dealing with creative burnout. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the constant grind of RU-vid and hustling for money; but it's so important to take a step back, put the camera down from time to time, try new experiences and just live. Love your work mate.

Really powerful filmmaking and storytelling on this one and love the inclusion of Goth Babe's story and lessons. As a big fan of his music and currently making the difficult choice to deprioritize my main and successful musical project this one struck home and was just what I needed in this moment of uncertainty. Also production and visuals were inspiring as always and show me how much I have to learn as an aspiring filmmaker.

I feel like the oldster I am. But this made me vibe my younger self and "My favorite things." Surfing, fly fishing for trout and music (I apologize for having no idea who Goth Babe is but what an amazing person and artist). Beyond that, and what you beautifully captured here: the vitally important immersive experience of nature. I have bobbed in waves and waded in rivers. It's the same wonderful thing. Bless you and I hope we can all keep on experiencing the wild part of our pale blue dot. Fantastic film!

Goth babe is my fav artist! As an engineer, his insight on how he approaches creative work is very insightful. Dude, you basically a similar Oregon trip that I did this summer. Down to the same exact spot I was fishing outside of Bend. I have quite the story from there - a guy started fishing over me about 15 feet away that led to me calling him out. He pouted and said, "but this is my favorite spot." Boomer was upset that I was where he wanted to go. Literally across from where you caught that rainbow. There is another location outside of Boise you need to check out for some of the largest crappie you could catch on the fly.

I sold a business because of burn out and moved to Oregon for the fly fishing. 0 regrets, now just working on figuring out what I want to do out here. Haha I love this place.
