Is a sucker better than a skunk? Let me know in the comments!

I fished those small tribs, no luck. There's a good dry fly bite in the spring. The beauty of the neversink is that there are like 30 parking spots for over 6000 acres so it's never crowded. Also it's at least a 30 min hike to the river no matter where you park.

Gotcha! I’ll have to hit it in better conditions!

The neversink has been tough lately, in regards to nymphs you have the right idea especially with the big stonefly nymphs, in regards to dryflys all I can say is go small and bring a good variety with you blue wing olives are a must have tho. I have had better luck below the reservoir lately but there are more people there so pick your poison

I tie the same pattern on the river I fish, the nymph variant. Pheasant tail style, usually a dark nickel or gold bead and a nice gold thorax. but I usually go with woodduck for the tail and legs. I was fortunate to have inherited tons of it, like 20 gallon sized ziplock bags full of woodduck flank, not barred. Set for life. I find downstream a ways where I’m at, a golden stone works well with rubber legs. Hendrickson hatches are intense and start hatching around 3pm from mid to late April well into May. Orange sulphurs are also a big dry hatch into June. Caddis jig nymphs as well. I fish a Delaware tributary a little ways downstream from here in this video, which isn’t far from my main go-to. Which is all wild. Massive browns. Delaware bows swim up by June-July. Brookies. Wild Tiger trout. Shad even run up and I’ve seen a guy land a striper. Not heavily fished. You’re in the right area.

i fished a few pieces of the Neversink this weekend above the gorge. It was TOUGH going but did get a few. I fished the gorge a few weeks back and had TONS of action but had to find the few spots they were holding. Hard to know whats what but I'll be back. Love that water.

Home of the dry fly (Theodore Gordon). I love the Neversink. Difficult to access, difficult to fish, and all the reward when you hook up. You need a day or two in that Gorge area.

Whats with RU-vidrs proclaiming whether their fish is stocked or wild? Especially in this video, you say "look at that wild brown trout" when you didn't even get a good look at it. Is there more prestige or something when one catches a wild fish as opposed to a stocked one?
@DownstreamDownrange
@DownstreamDownrange Год назад
Well I guess at least for myself, a wild trout never sees food pellets or is used to humans near them. A stocked trout will eat just about anything and also won’t be as spooked by a human. A wild trout (naturally born in the river) will be selective on what it eats and also won’t tolerate sloppy casting or too much disturbance near them. A wild trout is harder to catch and there for more exiting or rewarding

You need to learn to carry a rod with the tip behind you facing away. The worst that will happen is you’ll catch your line on a twig, or branch. But if you carry it tip forward there’ll come a day when you stumble and fall and snap a tip.

I love fly fishing videos however that being said I am not a fan of TMI too much information. It is my opinion that specifics when it comes to locations does not do any stream a service. The videos with general information without details on exact locations are in the end better for places such as this that are unique and delicate. Not to mention they do not in any way threaten to over pressure wild trout populations. Of course if you are looking for views you might disagree.
@mattmarshall7473
@mattmarshall7473 Год назад
Totally agree - I fish here often and don’t like to see it posted online. The place isn’t a secret by any means but still I don’t want to see it publicized.

@@mattmarshall7473 There are several channels out there rely on spot burning to develop interest and views. I am not a hater but at the same time I care about places such as this and the wild and delicate balance that exists. I have been fortunate to have traveled around in search of some of the more difficult to find trout species in this country and have created some 400 videos over the years. Some of these places that I have been I will never see again and I have people asking where is it and how do I get there? As much as I would love to give exact directions there is no way I am going to run the risk of ruining what it is that makes the place so special. Leave no footprints and leave it as you found it. I celebrate the adventure yet denounce the river pimping. Best of luck to you out there but keep in mind things like this have in no way a positive impact on such a unique place.
@DownstreamDownrange
@DownstreamDownrange Год назад
I understand you’re point, but what would you say about the other channels that pop up when you search neversink that have wellllllll over 10,000 views on their video! Their videos are doing significantly more damage in your point of view

@@mattmarshall7473 can’t have your cake and eat it too, this is an extremely popular almost world famous river …. Im not naming like a tributary or smaller sized wild brown trout creek out in the mountains

@@DownstreamDownrange There are several channels that rely on spot location to attract views. The way I see it their hearts are not in the right place. It is like littering a stream with garbage you just should not do it. I have witnessed the direct effects on several places where they appear to be lost now. It is just my perspective and something to think about. As for those channels that show locations and maps.....I feel the same way. For me the balance and beauty of such places should be enjoyed by all but not exposed to the masses. Leave no footprints and leave it as you find it.
