Fly Fishing with a Lanyard, Why I Use One and How I Use One. 

Cool Video! I can see the benefit and have enjoyed one myself. I eventually found the jingle jangle annoying. If you move slow and don't bend over much, then no big deal though

I just recently made a DIY lanyard based on the Golden Trout design. I'm still tuning it in, but I really like it. DIY is great because it's highly customizable and repairable.

Fly fishing 40 years, just got a lanyard 2 years ago and love it.

In addition to what you have on yours, I have fly hook holder, which is as essential as my nippers tool. Once I get a fly out of box, I secure it to the tool then I can tie on to tippet without worrying about dropping/losing it.

Just subscribed! I also fish with a Lanyard and have a C and F fly box suspended at the top. My net with an Orvis retractor is appended to a loop on the back of my shirt/jacket and that's it. Perfect for those long wilderness walks with minimal weight. Regards from down under in NZ.

The main reason I do not have spools of tippet on a lanyard is because the tippet would be exposed to uv rays when outside and the tippet will be weakened over time! Instead, I make my own leaders at home and carry 1/2 dozen with extra spools of various tippet that I may need but inside zippered pockets of a sling pack I carry over my shoulders on my back with my flys etc. My knife is on a strong looped string, looped thru a belt loop, in a knife case on the belt. The knife is accessible to use but cannot be lost because it is tied on my jeans…..lost a couple before I devised this method…case opened after getting snagged and knife fell out!! I tie everything on my pack with zingers or strong line so it is accessible but cannot be lost, such as haemostats! Even the zingers are further secured! Going thru the bush, there are many ways your stuff can snag on branches etc. and you may not even know it is gone until you need it later!
