In this video, I assemble the FLY LEDs wingtip kits. I was very impressed with the kits in how easy they are to put together as well as how relatively inexpensive they are.
They really are a great company to work with. Whenever I reached out to them, they were quick to respond and provide feedback! As far as their lighting kits go, it was very easy to follow the instructions and put them together! Good luck to you!
@@didja691 thanks for the feedback. I have reached out to FLYLEDs and have gotten a quick response. FLYLEDs wing kits RV7/8 is the most compact and may be similar to other non-RV wing tips that can be custom fit.
Thanks, great video. I am in the decision phase of building. In other words, trying to get the green light from Momma. One more note, 3M double sided tape is a great choice for applications where temperatures are constant. However, if there are fluctuations in temperature, double sided tape will eventually fail. I am an automotive engineer and the industry stopped using double sided tape years ago because of failure. We now use a mechanical fastener with compression on both sides (no pan head set screw). We now use plastic fasteners affectionately called Christmas Tree fasteners. Where we cannot use plastic fasteners, we use small machine screws (#4 or #6) with a nylon lock nut or thread lock (red or blue). We found that lock washers also eventually fail and do not use them anymore.
This is part of the reason that I have not installed these yet even today. I am waiting to see if there is something that I can utilize instead of the 3M tape. I'm just not quite convinced that the vibration and temperatures wont cause the tape to fail...
Super helpful Scott. I’m building a 14A as well here in MA, and am at more or less the same stage as you (except I stopped for a few years and you are zooming quickly ahead!). I decided to wait on lighting until later in the project, but was going to go with the flyleds as well and this is one of the first videos I have seen applied to a 14 so thanks for that! Keep the videos coming! I would start my own channel but I start and stop my sessions so frequently that I’m not sure I would have 10 minutes worth of video that made any sense! Great editing job.
Yea, the 14 seems to be one of those that if you have the time, they go together pretty quickly! Its just a matter of finding that time! I had a year or so that I couldn't work on it due to moves. Now that we moved to a house with a shop, I have fewer roadblocks! I *highly* recommend the Flyleds set! Very easy to assemble, a great product, and significantly cheaper than the equivalent AeroLeds lights!
@@unclefreddy2009 yes, the seven star lights. You can choose to use all seven for landing lights, or as I did, utilize the center light as a taxi light with a diffuser lens over the light. They also were very easy to assemble.
