Great looking fly Barry. I've always admired these flies but never tied them, probably because I've relied on a similar pattern, the Woolly Worm. But watching your videos I'm realizing there's more than one way to "skin a cat", or tie a fly. Thanks for sharing your skills and your knowledge.

Delighted to see you tying this Bibio. Can never have too many Bibios in my fly box for the Connemara lakes in the far west of Ireland. I'll be there this weekend and I'll tie some of these in preparation for some late summer action - alongside a few Daddys of course.

Thanks Randy, I would have like to see it! Unfortunately, like just about everything else, all the international tying shows have been cancelled this year and I'm not sure when they will be allowed again. But if and when they start again I will post all the dates and venues. I do about 20 shows a year, so I hope to see you at one of them.

A very popular fly in Ireland in the loughs. Never had much success with it myself (the Kate McClaren was the one that done it for me). One fella caught salmon on it regularly on a local river.

Yes Rossa, originally tied by Major Charles Roberts from County Mayo and over the years, in the larger sizes has become a popular salmon fly also.

Hi Barry. When you rotate the finished fly, there appears to be a wing on each side, or a batch of white feathers. How did that form or is it the light playing tricks? Regards.

Barry! A fine good morning sir!! I have seen the Bibio tied a number of times and I think I will eventually add some to my box. I want to try some patterns that I call European patterns, over here and I have managed to procrastinate for ten years, I think I must actually do something about it. Oh I know this is about a different fly, but those little minnows you do with the coloured Mylar under the clear pearlescent body wrap? I have not fished them yet but I wanted to weight a few so I could fish two unweighted behind one weighted without a beadhead. So I did the underwear with both blue and red wire, then the pearlescent wrap over the wire. They look good in the water, the Guppies in my test tank were interested, mind you those male fish have no moral standards at all! So it looks like I may go fishing on Wednesday I will let you know how I do. As always Barry my best to you and thanks again for all you do.

Seal's fur is "very translucent, especially when the light shines through it." George W would have been proud of that one!

I think what Callum is saying is that "very translucent, especially when the light shines through it." is tautologous - you're saying the same thing twice. Translucent means the light shines through it: the light shines through it means it's translucent. George W. (Bush) specialised in such (minor) sins. But never mind - he was just the leader of the free world.
