An extremely popular pattern in the UK that is used from both boat and bank. The cruncher has many variants, this is the standard that can be tied on different hook weights and fished all year round.

@@Thefeatherbender - Just tied a few up Barry - a nice pattern for reservoirs - filling the gaps in my box and trying some new patterns at the same time !!! - I usually stick with GRHE or Diawl Bach for a point fly - this looks great and I know others use them to good effect - also used my new rotary vice and first time used proper rotary function for this - onwards and upwards - Thanks - Steve.

Great, as always! I’ve been wanting to try a Cruncher pattern for years, so this one seems like a good candidate for it. I like slender patterns like these. Also I’d like to thank you for the Diawl Bach hot head variant. This little fly rapidly became one of my favorite stillwater patterns last year. In some way, maybe because of the slender profile, this Cruncher sort of reminds me of the Diawl Bach. Happy new year, and tight lines!

Hello Barry... ... I'm very excited of your flytying. Please help me. What is a cruncher in detail? Here in Bavaria this pattern is not known... Is it like a nymph? Thanks for your help. P.S. I've bought your book... love it!

Hi Christian, danke! A cruncher imitates nothing in particular, a kind of nymph / wet fly crossing that is extremely popular in the UK for still water fishing.

Hello Mr. Clarke. I've read a third of your book, and I'm ending up tyeing bluegill flys. So im ready to dive into trout flys. Being a beginner, which fly would you suggest I start with?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 4 года назад
Hi Randy, I hope you are enjoying it! I would start with perhaps the pheasant tail nymph and concentrate on the proportions and techniques, take your time and tie a half dozen in one sitting. Each time you tie one compare it to the one, you think is most correct and use that as a model for the next one... With a little practice and patience you should end up with 6 flies that are the same. Good luck!

@@Thefeatherbender Thank you so much. I've been out of commission for a couple weeks, but back at it before the salmon run. The steelhead are in up where I go in Michigan, but I'm waiting on the salmon. ( about a month away) I will start with the pheasant nymph. I do have a pheasant Cape, and moose hair. Theres so much to get.lol
