A fantastic pattern George, definitely one of my favourites. My own fly is made with a body of a feather quill wrapped, coloured and coated in UV. Never have a problem with visuals as it almost glows ... cheers and all the best mate - Shaun

Cracking stuff again George. If you can bag an old Cock Pheasant in November the tail fibers work great for the sherry spinner. The older the better, the tails turn a lovely shade of Auburn once they hit a certain age.

Deadly fly George there won’t be a trout safe when I get a few of these in my box. thanks for showing the tying and great advice on how to fish it. I’m finding it harder to see dries now.

George would this spinner pattern work on the lakes when the lake olives are on the water late on in the year as I know this is a bwo ????? Another great video from you George keep them coming this is one of the best RU-vid channel tight lines for 2022 Rab

Hi George, Firstly, thank you! I really enjoy and look forward to your fishing and fly tying videos. It’s that time of the year again….the evening rise. Currently we are lucky enough to have hatches of ‘Pale Wateries’ on my local stream. I’m not sure exactly which stage of the life cycle what the trout are rising to.. rising nymphs, emergers, duns, or falling spinners… ? Tried all sorts of dries but no joy( me blaming the fly….probably my poor casting and drag)that aside, I was considering tying up and tring a few spider soft hackle patterns eg. Partridge and Yellow.. Any success using spider patterns during an evening rise ? Stephen
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful Год назад
I only ever fish dry flies during an evening rise Stephen, I'd never consider using wets. Call me a purist if you like but I think using wet flies during a rise seems to me to be missing the whole point.

Hi George, my stubborn old head got the better of me and I persisted in tying up a few spiders with CDC hackle to aid floatation. Mimicking a crippled or drowned dun. Caught a few but it was hard work. God loves a trier! George when there are no sherry spinners or other spinners falling but trout are rising in the evening is there a maintenance free generic dun or emerged pattern you’d recommend?

Thanks George, could I ask about the difference to your previous pattern of the spinner. With sky blue and pink floss and a grizzle hackle. Would you take this pattern over your previous one ? Many thanks for very informative and useful videos! Steve
@springerspanielful
@springerspanielful 3 года назад
Absolutely,both patterns are equally effective generally,however there are occasions when the more complex tie can make a difference.
