Dry fly hackle tutorial # 2 parachute perfect. Not the traditional technique for tying a parachute hackle but a very precise one I have used with great success and avoids having to whip-finish at the hook eye. Visit my site thefeatherbend...

You make it look so easy. When I try to wrap the thread around the post it always bends the post over and the thread becomes loose! That was a great tutorial! Thanks. Tight lines🦗🪰!!!!!

Barry! Truly appreciate this video. I've been hack(l)ing away at parachutes for a few years now, never *really getting them to look right (they always bunched at the bottom when I whip finished, or the hackle always slid off the post whilst hackling). As always, your brilliant tips work magic. In this case, the SMH-how-did-I-not-think-of-that "glue the post to shore it up" and "prep the para feather first" - brilliant! Tied up my first #18 emerger yesterday with no problem. Thank you, Sir!

No im saying to put a drop of superglue/ca glue on the post just before you wrap the hackle to hold the hackle. Makes long lasting fly

On a parachute Adam's, do you recommend tying a brown and grizzlie,, or just a single feather (grizzlie)?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 2 года назад
Brown & Grizzle or a Cree also known as an instant Adams.

Nice again Barry!! which side of the hackle is up when you tie parachute? shiny one or matte one? is there a rule or any tip according to the type of fly? Thank you
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender Год назад
Hi David, you can do it both ways. If the shiny side is up you get a traditional presentation, if it's down the fly rides lower in the water.
@flytyer2368

Hi Barry! Do you dress the hackle/post before the body or after? I prefer to dress the abdomen and thorax, then flip the fly. There is plenty of hook shank/bend left to clamp onto without damaging the abdomen. Thoughts?
@cachi-7878
@cachi-7878 Год назад
Del Mazza, who is perhaps the best dry fly tyer ever, completed the hackle after having dubbed the body and thorax. He would wrap the hackle up the post, whip finishing unencumbered from any obstacles. His hackle wraps were always immaculate and never trimmed half the barbules off, giving him a dense hackle finish.

What hook is that I’m used to tying these with a dry fly hook. This looks almost like a caddis hook.
@Thefeatherbender

Hi Isaac, It's a Mustad C49S Curved caddis hook that is also a very useful emerger/dry fly hook.

C a glue on the post before you wrap hackle
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 6 лет назад
A drop of varnish on the post just to stiffen it up, it helps if you are not using a Gallows tool for the parachute hackle.

is that Antron yarn you used for parachute? Can Antron be used?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 4 года назад
Hi OMT, yes it is and yes it can. There are an abundance of materials that can be used for the post both synthetic and natural.

Barry what's the idea of striping one side of the hackle is that no useing twice as much
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 7 лет назад
Hi Maz, the idea is that when strip one side of the hackle you get a perfect hackle that stands 90 degrees from the hook shank and NO hackle points that go off in different angles.
