Fly Tying with Hans- Pearl Core Cased Caddis 

I've used diamond braid as a substitute and it works fine. I think you can match the size of a smaller hook better with the pearl core, but if you tie 12s, then diamond braid works too. With the D braid, I leave the flame on the braid an extra second or 2 to get melt a nice little head. I always used copper wire as part of the case, but I'm going to try a brown hackle in the future.
