There is nothing exciting about this, it's Embarrassing!!!! Players like Dave Brown, Ed Hospodar, Jeff Chyhrun ,and Greg Smyth should never have been in the league. They couldn't play hockey at all. I actually played hockey, there is nothing wrong with aggressive play and finishing your check or going to the net. A good fight is great when its part of the game. This disaster has nothing to do with any of that.This CRAP can Rest In Peace.
when real men played the game who literally hated players on other teams unlike today with this soft generation of rich players who are all friends off the ice. it takes away part of being a fan and hating the other teams when you know a lot of these guys are friends .
I hated seeing James Patrick go before the 94 cup win. He was such a tough and talented loyal Ranger. Seeing Donnie Maloney lead the charge to help the little guys and Sandstorm is as awesome as it gets. I miss this game
Brown was lucky Beck didn't pound him. Or Brown would have been taken off by a stretcher . Beck was mad. Told Brown he better cut it out. Beck was strong. Also the number 1 enforcement in the NHL. A nice guy off the ice. I was at a North Stars game . Rangers where in town. Him and Willy Plett. Plett backed down. Knew the strength of Barry Beck. 4-4 tie. Beck was a tough player. Threw some major League hits. Sure added toughness
Awesome game. As much as l am a fan of Greg "Birddog" Smyth, l didn't see him go anywhere near Barry "Bubba" Beck. That's because Bubba would have torn the Birddog apart like warm bread.
Beck had some serious anger issues that he admitted to. He had some trouble off the ice when he was younger, and he has said at that time he was afraid he was going to really hurt somebody. Alot of the restraint he showed on the ice was due to that. Brown was lucky here although the Flyer fans will say otherwise.
Vindiggs, as Grapes would say, “This one was a real beauty!” Beck keeping Brown on the ice by laying on top of him was the smartest thing to do. Neutralizing the Flyers most dangerous fighter during a bench brawl probably saved one (or more) of the Rangers from taking stitches. Also, the last few minutes of this are hilarious. Esposito had seen enough, and them cracking up over the fan sitting behind the bench was enough break the tension of a fight filled game. Classic!😀

I always admired the fact that Patterson didn't really pursue it with Pavelich. He was a lot bigger and would have won easily, must have been a mutual respect there.

Josh, I went to a North Stars-Canucks preseason game in St. Cloud in 89 or 90 and Vancouver had EVERY one of their goons on hand .... Odjick, Stern, Agnew, Antoski, Mackey etc etc. And, the Stars threw their team of Gaetz, DiPalma, Kevin Evans, Ciccone, Churla etc. Fun stuff. Jim Agnew was a really tough "little" dude. He and Churla had a great fight ... they were both just wearing underwear at the end. Shane won, but Agnew never quit. My brother lives in Milwaukee and he was a season-ticket holding Admirals fan and knew some of the Canuck farmhands. He stood at the glass with his Admirals jersey and a lot of the Vancouver guys came by and fist bumped the glass. I still tell him how mortified and humiliated I was by that! LOL Fun stuff.

Beck with one arm injured due to a very bad shoulder that ended his career handled Brown easily three times. Brown was lucky that Bubba was hurt and not his old self.
totally agree here, however Brown wasn't all that strong and lacked stamina. Brown gets tied up too easily against veteran heavyweights (e.g., his fights with Semenko, Nilan, McSorley).

I used to watch Stu Grimson in Greensboro up close and would laugh he was so pathetic. Couldn't turn, do crossovers and could barely stop.

I'm so proud of the Rangers not taking any shit from the Flyers. They have tried to intimidate the Rangers since the days of Bobby Clarke and Dave Schultz. I'll never forget Schultz beating the Rangers Dale Rolfe to a pulp in the '74 playoffs and the Rangers never retaliated. The Flyers went on to win the Cup.
I was a little too young for this era to be going to games, started in 1990 but my uncle had Rangers season tickets from the late 70s through 1996 and said it was so different back then not just the games but the fans too. There were brawls and fights in the stands, outside Madison SQ Garden, especially when the Flyers or Islanders fans came to MSG with their colors showing.
Pavelich once beat the snot out of Dave Brown. They went down at center ice with Brown on top. Pavelich did a pushup with Brown on his back, flipped Brown off his back onto the ice and proceeded to beat the tar out of Brown. RIP, Mark Pavelich; he had the heart of a lion.
@@6aNapoleon Yes Pav was one of my all time favorite Rangers and I go back to 1970. He was a hell of a player and too bad a guy like Kreider or before him Nash didn't play with the heart of Pavelich. Another floater was Brian MacLellan who was George McPhee's teammate at Bowling Green and George was another all heart guy with a bad back. He was a Hobey Baker winner and MacLellan was a waste of time.
Rene Poulin got into so many fights. Always got fed. In a earlier video, Poulin decided to challenge Ron Duguay. Not a good idea. Poulin got very hit. James Patrick, not known as a knuckles guy, did do training with a pro boxer. Sam Rosen mentions in this video. Poulin obviously did not know this. And of course had to be rescued by his goalie.

You were very lucky if there was A televised pre-season game, years ago. It was really where they separated the true hockey players, and the pretenders. You would get more action in some pre-season games than in half A season with some teams. If there was A pre-season game coming on, I would have more anticipation for it than A playoff game.
I agree, because the guys who are 300 PIM plus guys in the AHL and IHL always got their chance to show themselves in those pre season games. And, the top tier NHL enforcers were always slated to play the last couple games of exhibition to get their legs and wind and muscle bruise immunity out of the way before opening night. It was GREAT!

dave brown was cut from my 70 and over OLD Timers team ... he needed two guys to help him get to where the fights are otherwise he would have had to crawl there

In 1978/79 alone Fotiu was 5-0 against the Flyers and beat Holmgren three times overall in 1977 at the Garden, 1977 in the preseason in Philly where they continued the fight in the runway and 1978 in Philly and after kicking Wilson's ass twice got into Wilson's face in the 1979 and 1982 playoffs and Wilson took it. Fotiu played the Flyers in three playoff series and won all 3 winning 10 of 12 games and the Rangers outscored the Flyers 65-32 and yet no brawls. Fotiu handled the Flyers just fine.
