1-27-80 Flyers 5 Oilers 3 (2nd and 3rd Period only) The Flyers make their 2nd ever trip to the Northlands Coliseum to play the Oilers in their 1st season in the NHL. Though they had Gretzky and rookie Mark Messier, this Oiler team was not the powerhouse they would become, as Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey, and Grant Fuhr had yet to arrive. Bad audio through out the game, which was common for a telecast from the west.

Hearing Gene and the Chief gives me chills. Couldn’t count the nights I lay in bed listening to them on the radio and then Mystery Theatre when the game was over.

1979-80 Flyers somehow managed a 35 game unbeaten streak and trip to Finals with a power play ranked dead-last.

And it's interesting to note that the main reason they lost to the Islanders in the finals was they couldn't stay out of the penalty box. The islanders scored 15 ppg in 6 games. Even with a bad PP, they were very deep up front. Adding Linseman and Propp to Clarke, Barber, MacLeish and Leach gave them 6 forwards who were all, at the very least, very good offensive players.

The quality level is fantastic. Why can't we get all 80's games at this quality level - it seems the NHL doesn't even have them. If you have them, pls share.

Don Gillen from Dodsland, Saskatchewan. His only game in the NHL & scored a goal. Later played for the Kerrobert Tigers!!

Wow Gretzky was 23 points behind Dionne at this point in season but managed to tie him for scoring race lead by end of the year!!

Regarding the Pat Price comment at about 10:10 the guy was a wha bust and played soft. He broke an egg on Al Arbour’s head after a practice and punched his ticket off the Island.

Peeters was always like a statue in the net. No mobility, & so slow on his feet. Starting him in the '80 Finals against the Isles, was Pat Quinn's worst decision. Myre was the hot goaltender, having a great semi series against Minnesota. They never bounced back. Never liked Peeters.

I don't know how Pete Peeters stopped anything..He gave up some of the worst goals

He did. In Boston versus the Islanders in the 83 playoffs, and in Washington versus the Rangers in the 86 playoffs. Plus he gave up 2 terrible goals to Mario Tremblay in round 1 of the 84 playoffs. For a goalie who was quite accomplished, he gave up many bad goals.
