He is kinda like an aviation reporter, so it's natural to have some perks here and there. He's flying to some obscure town just to test a plane without even setting foot at the town he is going (20 minutes at the airport is not setting foot there). It's work, not pleasure.

Hey Noel. Flew on this aircraft for a trekking expedition I did in China. The crew were extremely friendly and the fares were ridiculously cheap! Felt the scenery made it an experience as well. Obviously not luxury but an experience. A lot of people who fly from NepalGunj to Kathmandu, are often Indians who are heading to China for a holy trek of Mt. Kailash (6000m)..a tedious route and bureaucratic process handled in Nepal..(hence lack of direct flights) as I'm sure you experienced first hand. Great video though!

I had a great flight in a 727 once. I hadn't been on one for years, and was on a flight from the UK to Florida, United, via Washington DC. Anyway, they had started running out of aeroplanes to serve their routes, so they brought a couple of old 727s back from the desert and put them back into service. I happened to be on one from Washington to Orlando. It was great, good legroom, comfortable seats, it was the way air flight used to be. The seats were more comfortable than the ones on the 777 which I'd just crossed the Atlantic on.

@fortherepublic9878
@fortherepublic9878 2 года назад
@@handsomeboy933 In the video, Noel said that a majority of the crashes were due to pilot errors. One such incident was a failure to land in heavy fog. The point is, Nepal is hard to fly in because the mountains are too high, the landscape is horrible for aircraft in general, and the weather is so unpredictable. Idk how that warrants a ban on the airliner though.

Easily the rarest aircraft I've had the pleasure to have flown would be the GZ-20. Fewer than 20 ever built with no more than 3 or 4 operating at a time from the 1970s until 2014 when the last one was withdrawn. And they were very difficult to fly aboard as well, as the operator didn't really sell tickets to the public. I just happened to get incredibly lucky that my grandfather was able to get me aboard when I was about 5 or 6 years old.

The most unusual airliner that I’ve ridden was a Short 330 operated by Britt Airlines, a commuter airline that connected Chicago O’Hare (ORD) with nearby communities. I flew from either Peoria, Illinois or the Quad Cities (MLI) which are Davenport & Bettendorf, IOWA and Moline & Rock Island, Illinois. It was a long time ago (early 80’s) and I’ve forgotten which. The plane was small as was the pitch as my feet did NOT fit comfortably under the seat in front of me. I concluded that the Northern Irish built aircraft was designed for leprechauns.

Hie Noel they are PW127J to be exact 😜. I actually did a type rating to fly the MA60 but never got a chance to fly it and was moved onto another type. The reason you fly so low is because the climb performance suuuuucks best you can do is 1000ft/min initially which drops to below 500ft/min. On a 200nm leg you won't make to 15000 before top of descend.
@mukanyawic
@mukanyawic 2 года назад
I would disagree with you a bit there. Air Zimbabwe was the 1st foreign/non Chinese airline to own and operate the MA60 in 2005. I was the 1st non Chinese commercial airline pilot to fly the MA60 commercially (Reg Z-WPK) on the Harare -Lusaka route. I have just over 2500hrs on it as a Captain. It definitely could fo more than 1000ft/min. Our routes Harare-Bulawayo/Harare-Lusaka/Harare-Kariba/Kariba-VictoriaFalls/Victoria Falls-Bulawayo, are all less than 200nm and we used to get a reasonable cruise portion on each sector and quite easily at 18000ft/19000ft/2000ft/21000ft cruise altitude!

Noel Sichuan Airlines were given four MA60’s and after flying them for a few months, they put them all in long term storage, which is a condition that keeps the aircraft airworthy by performing storage maintenance including engine runs. The reason they were put in storage was the airline considered them unreliable but as the government had bought them, the airline was obliged to “maintain” them. The crews told me that they had flown AN24’s for years with very good reliability but they hated the MA60.

I flew a Zambia Airways DC3 when I was a child. It was a bit weird because when you got on board you had to climb a 40 degree slope up to your seat and when you sat down you felt like you were on your back like an Apollo Mission astronaut, ready for lift off! Of course the aircraft leveled out as it sped down the runway. The other thing you were very aware of was the absence of a pressurized cabin which meant one had to do a lot of sweat sucking!

Noel; Fantastic. There is something called Operation Induced Pilot Error (OIPE). This means the type of operation is non-standard and usually also involves marginal weather. RNAC shows that they understand that and are not pushing the weather. In this case, instead of not being a reason to fly Nepal, it should be encouraging as well as the fine cabin crew. In spite of the bad economy, Nepal has pushed always to improve equipment, training, and operations. Lukla used to be a dirt strip serviced by piston STOL planes with tent structures. Back to the MA-60. You quite correctly pointed out that many of the accidents were "pilot error". Much of this is a result of OIPE and training. Yes, the pilots screwed-up, but why? And what about the navaids available to them and non-standard procedures? 95% of instrument approaches are the ILS, or now the Vnav GPS. Simple as pie, turn on the AP and fly it down until you see the runway. You mentioned the approach at KTH. Yes, long, and a nightmare. It has step-downs. Like stairs, because of terrain, you fly down to the next altitude and level out, again and again. These are Not stable approaches, many more ways to screw-up, and yes, it happens. The EU's FAA spent a bunch of money to stabilize and standardize approaches. And a lot of people did not die. China aerospace is new. But it is strong, why, the will and money. You know, China has the fastest-growing aviation sector, anywhere. Exploding. The MA-60 was a first attempt, and it is getting a lot better. Why, because it has to. Like Japan, the quality of their products is rapidly improving and soon, "Made in China" will mean a mark of quality. They will spend whatever it takes to have the leading aviation industry in the world. Today, it takes a country to make an airliner, not just a company. That is what is happening to Boeing. With the exception of defense, the USA has no desire to lead aerospace anymore. Maybe you can tell me about Europe. Great report!

From the looks of the sky I say you enjoyed the constant delays of winter time for the domestic sector. Poor visibility is highly common in winter and usually delays or cancel a flights for fairer weather as poor visibility is one of the major factors for aircraft incidents in Nepal. Either way if your about in Nepal for a while I would suggest trying Buddha air which was my preferred airliner of choice when I used to live in ktm and had to fly close to the border with India to get to my school in Gangtok or (bit of nepotism here lol) Shree airlines as they are the only jet user in the domestic sector ( also two of my uncles are pilots in that airlines)
