The DC-3/C-53D Skytrooper was one of several qualitative evaluation aircraft flown during our Test Pilot School curriculum. Its history was not lost on us: this actual aircraft flew missions on D-Day, June 6, 1944, in support of the allied war effort. Built at the Douglas plant in Santa Monica, CA, it was one of many airframes redirected from civilian service to serve over the skies of Europe before returning home. Sadly, not all those she carried made it home. In memory of them. Lest we forget.
