Cool, that seems much more reasonable. In tack events if a tail wind exceeds 2 meters per second (3.9 kn) the result cannot be registered as a record on any level.

RockCh4lk The indoor record would be crushed by these guys, the problem is free, empty, military grade aircraft hangers aren't very easy to come by. The Indoor record is "only" about 470 feet, which is a distance all the top open players throw controlled golf drives to all day. It would be cool if we could get these guys throwing in a big enough facility to actually challenge that record, but don't hold your breath. Now the idea of having some sort of wind cap sounds easy enough, but in reality it would be virtually impossible to implement. Does wind direction matter? How many measurements would one have to take? The discs are going literally hundreds of feet up in the air, would you need to measure the altitude of the disc and fly a weather balloon up to confirm wind? Would you measure from the release point, the end point of the flight, somewhere in the middle, all of the above? What about thermal updrafts? The old record (before Wiggins) was set by throwing onto a thermal updraft, which wouldn't be considered a head wind or a tail wind. How would one prevent that from counting? Disc golf, and disc sports in general, are primarily played outdoors in the natural elements. The elements are almost always a factor. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be the same with the record books. To answer your question, the day before this there was almost no wind to throw into. Simon said "In today's conditions 700 would be a good number" so that should give you a rough idea of what they throw to "without wind"

But the same goes for track and field and they have the 2m/s (average wind speed), 4m/s (top wind speed) rule in regards to records. It is almost like timing a 1,000 meter bike race on flat ground, then timing that speed against a 1,000 meter bike race on a down hill slope, of course the slope time will be faster. This was a great throw, but I don't put anything into records like this

+Jeff Spicoli They don't say anything, but I can think of a few reasons: 1.) It probably has to be outdoors since there is no place 1000 feet flat indoors that is practical for them to use. 2.) Since it's outdoors, they had to admit that wind will have to be a factor, so their rules were probably revised to "who can throw furthest in any given setting" rather than a neutral setting.

When trying to set auto speed, runs are done in two directions, and the speed record is taken from the average. This cancels out tailwind advantage. Why not do the same with discs?

The Amazon warehouse I worked in was 2000+ ft. long...possibly it was uninterrupted but I can't remember for sure. I'm sure if you asked them nicely...

I have heard that if the wind is too fast it messes up the shot and decreases the distance. The best wind is under 20 mph I think. Like 17? I’m not sure.

Maybe put rows and rows of artificial grass in the landing area to help keep the Frisbee from sliding after it lands.

Unfortunately there is no footage of the mini world record throw. There was no professional videographers on site for this event and filming an object of that size flying more than 500 feet would be next to impossible.

Usually a roller is chosen when there are trees or a tunnel that keep someone from throwing max power, because the max power throw has less accuracy. This is why you see Paul McBeth throwing those 550 ft throws, they are big hyzer throws not thrown down the middle, because it's harder to maintain accuracy throwing hard and straight.

It's more about technique than brute strength. Little kids(with strength of a squirrel) can throw discgolf discs 100+ meters.

At at speeds over about 30mph, a tailwind forces the disc down too strongly. At 100mph, you'd be getting 100' maximum.

What about a laserdisc?
