The past 24 for me have been so crazy, i felt like my life was falling apart. On my way home from work I listened to this. Brought tears to my eyes, but gave me a sense of peace and made me feel like everything is going to be just fine...the power of music, thank you FlyLo...
I'm geekin out to this damn song! Goosebumps when the beat drops...chills from the little repetitive "dundundundundundun" crap in the background around 1:43. I've played this thousands of times the past couple of years and, just like his version of "Fall In Love", I never get tired of it.
This guy is clearly pure Genius. Most peoples mind don't expand beyond the radio, and that's really a shame. This guy has been around since the '80s. He was so far ahead of his time. Truly the Einstein of his music genre..
I feel like every now and then a great sampler finds his gold (something almost unheard of and rare that sounds like heaven). I believe that is the case here, that is unless FlyLo composed this all himself.
I know this comment is gonna be a throwback for you cuz you wrote it 2 years ago, but I feel like FlyLo really wanted there to be no rythm so it feels more epic and spacious.
I think it's vital for you to understand that in making that track, Kendrick was expressing the mindset he was in a teenager. He's also kinda poking fun at rappers now. And even so he still manages to get kinda lyrical in certain parts of the song
look up why kendrick wrote that song and you'll understand why. he wasn't being serious when he wrote that song in the sense of actually wanting to do those things but he was sending a message to show how being around your friends can lead you to falling under peer pressure and rapping about things like that. you listen to any of his other songs, it's all substance. very few rappers can do that, that's why he's on the up and coming.
Also in the context of the album as a whole, I believe it's when he discovers that he has a talent for rapping, as the song is supposed to be a freestyle he did in the back of a car ("backseat freestyle").
this and Apollo Brown tao te ching are my 2 fav beats ever man cant decide between the two of em! anyone got suggestions for any others please talk to me
this is the most beauiful song ive ever heard. really diggin the string ensemble??? and the piano. like how its kinda chopped at some parts. ide just ask for some higher pitched bass hits after the two low ones. it just leaves me lingering, wanting more.
I'm assuming it isn't a sample to be honest. Cause I know I hear ThunderCat on bass ripping it up, so i feel like flylo kind of composed everything himself.
yeah i get that, but it is possible to sample yourself in a song ya know... Also, when I say "compose" I don't mean he got up and played everything live with thundercat, i mean he could have sat down and wrote it, then got an actual orchestra to play it or just program the sounds. After all, flylo is good friends with the one and only Miguel Atwood-Ferguson. I don't know for fact or not if its a sample, but I just lean towards Flylo actually writing it himself. Thats how almost all cosmogramma was written. Aside from a few samples that are actual "crate-diggers" All the orchestral parts and violin were written collectively by flylo, thundercat, miguel, and miguel's crew. but… like I said. Don't know for sure.
Flying Lotus, over everything else, is a song-writer/arranger. He can write anything, especially when working collaboratively with NUMEROUS talented artists like Thom York and Herbie Hancock. The guy is a genius and i wouldn't put it past him to write a simple orchestral scene that loops on beat.
you do realize the placement of that song right? backseat freestyle was about his ignorant days as a youth in compton, freestyling in the back of his parents minivan, he raps like that because thats what he wouldve rapped about as a 16 year old, youre killin my vibe with your negative attitude of another living thing, as if you would know anything about higher vibrations
my dad said is going to rap to this beat and you guys can check him out at Derek vice and I'm his daughter texting off my mom's phone and I am the little girl in 1992 with the Cincinnati shirt on
