I personally think the song is about the effects of free thought on a "caged" mind. The robot society is one that looks outwardly happy, but static, unchanging: Robots are built for their tasks, which they perform for the extent of their 'lives' without any thought to being something else. They live in a utopian lotus-eater machine, ceaselessly doing the same thing day in, day out, unaware of their own stagnation. Then, by accident, the "Eater" robot comes unplugged, breaking its illusion. It not only experiences a will for the first time, but its first sign of self-improvement. It intends to continue improving itself, but it can only do so by challenging all that it once believed, and the beliefs of others, demonstrated by its consumption of anything in its path and "evolving" even more. By the end, the Eater has destroyed everything it once knew, only becoming inert when it has become too big to move, and wraps itself in a cocoon, eventually metamorphizing into a new creature entirely, which, free of its old dogmatic ways, takes to the skies and leaves the ruins of the city behind, which are all that remains of the old ways it once blindly followed.

Cyriak puts way to much passion into what he does. that being said, his work is amazing. There are so many components to each little character he makes.

Found this after exploring some of David Firth's videos. Great video. And to think it all started with a natural glitch in the environment messing up the order of events. You can also see that the robot is completely disconnected to whatever system it was apart of previously due to the signals on the antennae disappearing at 0:25.

I come back to this video every few months/years. It's literally lodged in my psyche. Wonderful work!

In the video, at first we see a seemingly utopian world full of sentient robots. Then we see one robot devouring some smaller robots before eating the machine that made them. That robot goes on to devouring everything in its path before 'pupating' and turning into a robot fly and leaving the destruction it made. I think it's a metaphor on greed and society. It took all those robots working together to create the utopia, but it took just one robot to destroy it. No matter how close we can come to creating 'utopia' we never can because there will always be someone who is unhappy; someone who wants more. As long as one person is like that, our attempts will always be stopped. There is no one 'utopia', there is only the illusion of one.

Seven years and this STILL gives me chills.

I just watched the 1991 film 'Soujin Z' and a piece of its soundtrack reminded me of this song. I don't know if it was the influence for this song and this video, but that movie was about a robot that went quite haywire, eats up other pieces of technology, and mutates into a blob. Quite like our fellow here.

I love how this has a storyline that Cyriak made up, just based on the music alone. I love how he's able to do that. The video itself reminds me of the story behind SCP's "twisted gears" addendum.
