Flying Oshawa To Oshkosh AirVenture 2023!
I'm flying C-FMVU from our home base of Oshawa Ontario Canada (CYOO) to EAA Airventure 2023 held at Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH) in Oshkosh Wisconsin. In the video I talk about the registration mark, and how there could be a C-GMVU & a C-IMVU flying in Canada and ATC has to keep them all straight. I looked it up and C-GMVU is a Cessna 185 based in Dorval Qc. C-IMVU isn't being used right now, but could end up on an ultralight (I is for ultralight)

That was an absolutely gorgeous view as you were flying with the fluffy little clouds spotted here and there. Also thank you for answering a big question I had regarding the callsign, I wondered why you usually truncated C-FMVU to just MVU, and now I know.

If you notice the fuel leaking out right before takeoff, that is how the fuel tanks are designed in airplanes. That is a pressure release valve. As the pressure changes air may be expelled or sucked in to the tanks in order to keep pressure standard. When the pressure is released, sometimes a bit of the fuel leaks out.

"MVU was a little slow getting off the runway this time because it is loaded down to within about 250lb of its gross maximum weight." I regularly fly a Cessna 150 out of Buttonville within 5lb of its max gross, so this seems fine. :)

Glen, I was looking at your video on the starter and alternator swap. Thanks for the response, my question is about the alternator, is it a direct install or does it need a gear kit to work , some of the comments on Spruce website got a little confusing. Thank you, Vance
@GlensHangar
@GlensHangar 10 месяцев назад
On our installation: Continental O-300C the alternator was a direct instal. The starter was a bigger job, Chris had to cut off a shaft inside the motor case.

Glen , enjoy your channel. I have a 1961 172B and would like to upgrade to a alternator and new starter also and would like a little feed back from you. Is your alternator 50 or 70 amps? Did you use Aircraft Spruce ? And are you happy with the products. Thank Vance
@GlensHangar
@GlensHangar 10 месяцев назад
I put in a 50 amp alternator, and have loads of power to spare (though I also changed all the lights to LED). A lot of the products we put on the plane were ordered from Aircraft Spruce; they always had fast shipping, a wide selection and they shipped from a warehouse in Canada. That last one eased the process for us.

I'm a couple weeks lake but US ATC here! So previously we had a rule where we could shorten foreign registered callsigns to the last 3 but for some reason they recently changed it so we can't. So a few years ago on initial check in I would call you Charlie Foxtrot Mike Victor Uniform and then subsequently "Mike Victor Uniform" but not I have to say the whole thing all the time. Figured you'd be interested in this tidbit
@GlensHangar
@GlensHangar 10 месяцев назад
That's interesting! I didn't know what the rules were exactly; but you'll notice that the controller at KOSH does shorten my callsign... I guess in the name of expediency?
@BelowMinimums
@BelowMinimums 10 месяцев назад
@@GlensHangar Could be, but also could be old habits/ not knowing the rule changed. I didn't know the rule changed until recently because I was training a new controller and we had an Austrian DA62 (I'm guessing they were ferrying it brand new) and my trainee kept using the entire callsign and I said he could shorten it, but he said no he can't and showed me the rule lol
