As part of the Flying Scotsman Centenary celebrations organised by the National Railway Museum, The Railway Touring Company is running a series of mainline steam tours across the country.
Among those was The Great Yarmouth Flyer on Friday, June 23, which will saw the Flying Scotsman, 60103, make a stop at Stevenage before making its way to Great Yarmouth.
The video starts with some nice continuity showing how busy this stretch of the ECML is. Shortly after 60103 is seen coasting into platform 3 of the station. I did try and make it to Bridge Road to get her pulling out after the short stop to pick up more passengers, but the traffic wasn’t kind to me and I arrived just to see her pass under the bridge.
On a slightly different note I would like to thank the Stevenage police for following up reports of someone contemplating suicide as a man was seen standing by the over-bridge on sixhills way. What was also amusing was a second police car pull up two minutes later with another train enthusiast who got out of the front passenger seat. He was standing at the A602 over-bridge and having been asked the same and asked to move, and the officer gave him a lift to six hills bridge to stop further reports of someone possibly contemplating suicide. The public are more vigilant after an attempted suicide from the A602 bridge resulted in gridlock of both road and rail in September 2022.
