Welcome to my RU-vid channel. I created this channel mainly as a means of sharing videos related to my hobbies and interests with family and friends. The continuing change of traction and infrastructure on British railways is the main focus, with around 20+ videos documenting the construction of the 5th platform and Turnback at Stevenage. I also have an interest in model railways, and share the construction of an N gauge layout along with developing electronic projects for the layout. I have also kept and bred snakes for over 35 years, and these also feature on the channel from time to time.
I hope you enjoy the content and please feel free to subscribe so as not to miss any future upload
Thanks - Its been a while since I ventured out. I was hoping to get an ECS move with WCR stock that looked as it the two would pass within minutes of each other, but the ESC had been plagued with delays all along its journey and was still some time off so sadly had to pass
Nice looking board there. Interested to know what the " newer H bridge device " was over the specifed LMD18200 which are so expensive , no mention on the Mini DCC site ?
Thank you. The H bridge used in this board was the L6203. It's Max 5A rating, so more than adequate for the task. Not as cheap as the L298N dual H bridges, but then they are rated at around 1.5A a channel, and half the price of the original 18200 used in the MinDCC project. There is no mention of this on the MiniDCC website as it's not an official board that Robert designed or approved of. I just wanted to board that had everything connected rather than having cables running everywhere, and this was the final result. Whilst this wasn't an "official" project, he was however very helpful in writing a custom version of the firmware for my needs, which he said he would make available through the firmware updater application.
@@MalcolmCrabbeThankyou for that info. We had been looking at the DCC-EX Arduino controllers but they all use mobiles or pc control, we just wanted a couple of simple rotary controls. Came across your minidcc by chance when searching for the DCCs and now having looking at the Minidcc site a little confused, could you spare a moment to enlighten us please. The main page says V3 now available but nothing more about it ? Is V3 more to do with the Firmware updater rather than the main DCC controller ? The site allows you to Download the hex files to program the Pic1938 but then you mention the Firmware uploads he sent you ? assume that need one of those extra boards to program in the data ? Those extra boards mention a pre programmed Pic 1455, yet their store is closed ? Sounds like the pic1455 is acting as a programmer which seems odd if you have to have a programmer to program the pic1938 ? Still might just be us, not very clever with all this micro circuity 😄
Hi, probably asked this a lot but what adhesive are you using on this kit? Also what colour did you paint the top planks? Many thanks for very useful video 👍
I use liquid poly to assemble the kits. The grey deck is the unpainted plastic. As I was covering it up with the 3D printed loads I didn't see much point in painting it. Glad you liked the video
Welwyn Garden City still is a very pleasant and liveable town with local employment, a good selection of shops, various local amenities and lots of greenery and public open space. It was a visionary, egalitarian utopian concept back then and I'm glad it's still ticking along just fine. Letchworth (the original model for the 'garden city') is also an OK place with an abundance of beautiful trees and open space as well as all the things you'd expect to find in a typical town. David's Bookshop is fab!
Nice one. I called my old PA and they parked the old minibus in a lay by near the station in Stevenage and waited for it. She called me and said they saw it and the kids were buzzing by the time they got to the school! I might go out later and get the return.
@@MalcolmCrabbe oh ok there was no flames in the video so it looked like it had just overheated atleast no body got injured that's all that matters in the end
It’s kinda sad that they just got rid off it some people say that if they wouldn’t have got rid off that they could have yoused West Midlands trains or thameslink on that line
And with the line so close and parallel to the Midland line it could stop at the new Luton Parkway station giving anyone on the ECML better access to Luton Airport - Thanks for the comment
It's believed there was an exhaust fire from its rear engine somewhere between Newark northgate and Grantham due to a cooling issue leading to the 80mins delay at Newark and the shut down if the rear engine
Yeah.. I did see a transpennine unit in Cleethorpes station, but that was it... maybe I should add near a main line railway to my list of requirements for when I eventually move 🙂
@@tonyg1071 yeah, the 08 is used along with a small kettle - Nothing was running when I was there, but had a chat with a guy working on one of the MK1 coaches prior to setting off again to looks at some houses etc
@@MalcolmCrabbe I know. As soon as I found out about the tour (about 2 wks), they were already sold out. I ended up chasing the tour instead of being on it !!
