As anyone here I’m a fan of flying & aviation. However, the complexity of even being able to afford a new aircraft let alone annual maintenance, repairs, holding/storage, landing fees, fuel, ongoing training & compliance just for a PPL, even a shared aircraft. These days most Australians can’t afford to pay rent let alone other expenses, I know as I alone work full time. Truly a privilege to those that have such an opportunity.

@StefanDrury 😅 I wish I could afford to rent it... Part 61 school, so everything's a la carte. It's rather expensive to rent so I'll stick with the much more affordable 172S. Most of the people renting the SR20s at my school are people getting trained on it because they're looking to buy one or just get high performance rating. One day...

3:30 I absolutely LOVE that new HSI design which utilizes visual perspective to simulate the compass rose being horizontal, like the airplane. I think it increases situational awareness, maybe not by a lot, but every little increase helps. Disappointed to see it changes to an old-fashioned vertical display during the takeoff roll.

FYI, Stefan, DeltaHawk's new certified engine was flight tested on two testbeds: A Velocity V-Twin. A Cirrus SR-20. The company plans to have the 200hp version of their 4-cylinder 2-stroke jetfuel ready by the end of this year, then the 235hp model next year, and already said the 6-cylinder model is in development. Considering the answer you got from Stuart when you asked him, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a G8 a few years from now running one of those new 6-cylinders they're working on right now. You might actually see your unicorn. ;)

Great demo and review. I love the airport taxi display. I can imagine getting a complex taxi routing and struggling with tge airport chart. Engine wise. Because the SR22 is such a well designed aircraft a more powerful engine might push speeds to the high drag area's so an extra ten knots, 50 kg engine and extra fuel burn for not a lit of gain.

Hey Stef, I've recently followed you're most recent tutorial on how to record in the cockpit and the audio. Although have released that because I am a student pilot currently at YSBK, I want to record the entire lesson, (typically around 1h) on a GoPro Hero 8. Although the GoPro is limited to 4gb videos. Is these any way to continuously record using an external hard drive or something similar? I've also realized that the headset audio randomly spikes in volume in random places, and is needed to be manually adjusted to -30db in Premiere Pro later on. Any advise on what I might be doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

1:45 Many years ago, Lexus modified it's motor vehicle engine for use in a piston single airplane, and had it certified by the FAA. Then the project vanished from the Earth. Too bad because that engine checks all your boxes except for jet-A1. Probably it could have been further modified to utilize that fuel too.

So, in other words, nothing has changed fundamentally. It is kind of becoming a decades-old Cessna approach to engineering-update colours, add a couple of bells and whistles and a pink ribbon, call it a new G, and bump up the price a bit. As you correctly pointed out, it is still the same old engine tech, and there is still no retractable option. DA50RG is a much more versatile and stylish aircraft of comparable performance.

An engine burning JetA would be a huge benefit to a Cirrus owner. Cessna failed with it. They make trainers. The extra cost didn't make much sense unless you had a flight school at high altitude with wealthy students. I truly think it makes more sense for the Cirrus market. These customers are already expecting to spend high 6 figure and 7 figure sums for their aircraft. Lower fuel burn and higher range could be huge

Your new engine will double the price of the G8 SR22T. There's at least a couple of reasons why there's not much new in piston engines for aircraft. Firstly, it will need to be able to burn AVGAS because that's the only option in so many places that a Cirrus is designed to fly to and from, unless you go diesel and burn Jet-A which is its own barrel of concerns. Secondly, the production volumes of these engines are next to nothing compared to the high tech engines you are used to in automotive, so the bulk of the price will be engineering amortization. A comparable bespoke, low volume engine might be something like a Bugatti V16 or your GMA T50 V12 - you can imagine what the price of those engines might be in the spare parts department...

With aircraft being so modern with the latest technology why doesn't the aviation industry use the modern metric system? why don't you use litres for fuel and kilometers for distance and metres for hight? I don't fly but if i did i would need to continuously rely on a conversion app because i wouldn't have a clue how much a gallon, feet or miles are.
@Micg51

Ok, for a commercial setting or someone using the aircraft practically everyday with a 'need to fly' it's a great piece of tech. But in terms of recreational flying it is taking the joy out of flying. May as well sit at home pressing non-tactile buttons on a simulator or a laptop. Indeed vast majority of this video is all about which buttons to press. For any recreational pilot, occasionally flying, this tech it will lead to keep asking themselves that the information is somewhere in the system but just give me a few more minutes head down searching for the appropriate menu. Some of the 'safety' measures shown in the video are available in less complex aircraft. Having the aircraft takeover automatically is questionable. If the system 'asks' the pilot then ok...maybe. Basic airmanship and flying techniques is being eroded from the pilot community with reliance on new technology. The question arises as to why do new budding pilots want to fly? To learn how to push buttons or be at one with the birds? Don't get me wrong, this aircraft has a role to play but is it aspirational for a true recreational pilot outside of being a pretty cockpit?
