The A340 is one of the most beautiful planes to ever hit the sky. I was lucky to fly on her. It was an A340 300 operated by Philippines Airlines. Those CFM56-5 engines were awesome at takeoff.
I have flight with an A340-600 with Iberia, from Madrid to New York, its a 4 engine plane too, and very similar to the 340-500. Nowadays that plane is out of service (for Iberia at least). Incredible airplane, so beatiful.
Airbus A340-500 is such a beautiful plane! I often see it taking off from my local airport. Didn’t know this model is so rare. Also liked the review of the cabin. It looks really beautiful and stylish. It doesn’t even seem that old. Thanks for another magnificent video Sam 👍
Have flown this one time the A340 Lufthansa was the carrier from Frankfurt to Boston and I remember the wonderful twin engine plane that had a unique bar and snack counter towards the rear end and even had a plight of stairs to the restrooms. Food served was ok but the airplane experience was good. Thanks Sam it's amazing how you remember your old trips! 😊
Hi Sam. Flew Emirates 340-500, Dubai to Sydney non stop, around 13 hours. That was a long time ago, back at 2005 December. I remember that aircraft was just 2 month old, newly delivered to Emirates back then. Had a great and experienced flight though, still gives me chills when I remember this. Greetings from Rhodes Greece.
Not flow the 500 but have flown A340-600 when Virgin Atlantic used to operate on their LHR-LAX service. I've only flown once on this model and was really impressed, such a long fuselage and remember walking up and down the aisles thinking it was huge. It was a very comfortable plane and was quite distinctive and one of my favourite looking planes. It's a shame we rarely see them anymore.
I really Like The AirBus 340-500, it’s a gorgeous plane , with 4 engines, it’s a top notch plane , 🔥 will miss this monster :( thanks sam for sharing your experience
I flew the AirbusA340-500 when AZAL used this airplane for the JFK - Baku route. It was such a comfortable flight. There were even bar/lounge areas in economy, which resulted in a bunch of former Bakuvians gathering around for drinks and chat, very cool experience. Landing in Baku can be quite rough due to the winds, but flying inside this giant, you barely felt a thing.
Thanks a zillion sir, the 340's are both crew and passenger friendly aircrafts, they are very suave, Azerbaijan airlines services are lovely and their flight attendants are passionate about their jobs
It always saddens me to see so many beautiful aircraft, like the magnificent A340, thrown on the scrap heap due to economics. I remember seeing my first A340. Scratched my head and thought it was an extended Boeing 707. Thanks again Sam, love the channel.
I flew from YYZ-YUL-ATH many years ago on Olympic Airways' A340-500... I even have a model airplane of it! Sadly, the route doesn't exist anymore (Not sure if they still have that aircraft in their fleet)... but that was one of my favourite aircrafts ever! Legendary...
Sam, I was lucky to fly on Thai A340-500 on a non-stop from BKK to JFK roughly 11-12yrs ago! 18hrs airborne. Thai had slanted beds then in biz and I couldn't sleep for more than 3-4hrs at a time and after 3 sleep attempts, 3 meals and 3 movies I remember a rather unique moment of flying in biz class and wishing to land. LOL. Looking back at that flight I do treasure it because not only this was the longest non-stop flight I've been on in my 27+yrs of commercial flying, but also the only flight on an A340-500. Thank you for this and all of your videos!
I once flew this plane. And I am telling you, barely any turbulence and smooth landing! The food was awesome, and even Economy class was so comfy! 10/10 experience; I’ll never forget that memory.
Great to see you!!! Awesome video! Happy that you've shown some of the city of Baku and how the beautiful and modern architecture span across the city! Thanks and cheers!!
Flew on the A340-500 once on THAI, from KUL to BKK way back in 2008. Due to some technical issue with the A330, the which caused flight delays. Got upgraded to premium economy. That was the only time I got to experience a A340-500 or an A340. An experience to remember.
The good old days flying the A340, that was my favorite airbus! I Flew the 346, so spacious! I really miss the downstairs private lavatories, wish they made the lavatories that way! I flew Iberias 346s, and Virgin.
I live out in the northwest Philly burbs, at the beginning of Left Downwind for Runway 27R at PHL. BA used to fly 340s from Heathrow to PHL. I would literally pull into a parking lot if I saw a 340 in the pattern for PHL. I consider the 340 to be the most beautiful modern airliner.
I traveled with A340-500 only once very long time ago, which was from Auckland to Sydney by Emirates. I can say it was a fantastic flight. I have traveled a lot of times on a A340-300 by Cathay Pacific. Overall for A340, I loved it!! ❤️
i flew on one back when i didn’t have a lot of interest in planes, but my friend who was already really interested was really excited to be on an a340-500, i can’t recall a lot about the flight since it was many years ago, but i remember it being really comfortable
The -600 actually has a partial lower deck, which accommodates fairly spacious restrooms and some social space (at least the Lufthansa version has it - don't know if it's standard).
Don’t believe it is standard . I was on an Iberia A340-600 one given day and asked about this and they didn’t have it. Conversely a friend flew on another Iberia A346 which had it.
The UK airline Thomas Cook use to have the A330 with the lower deck toilets, I believe there were 5 located at the rear section and the stairs down were by door 4L.
Looking back now, I'm lucky to have flown on one of these rare beauties. I flew Thai from Oslo to Bangkok. The economy class on Thai's 340-500 should be standard on all planes, same as most airlines offer in premium economy today. I also flew the 340-600 with thai, also s cool plane.
I flew the A340-500 from Abu Dhabi to Los Angeles on Etihad Airways it was a very good journey I really loved the A340 probably the best flight of my life
Beautiful aircraft. I flew an EK jet once out of DXB to JFK in 2006. Second time was flying Etihad in 2008, SYD through to JFK and back. So a total of 5 flights on an A340-500 🙂
Hi Sam and hi guys. Flew on january 2019, Virgin Atlantic A 340 (500? Maybe 600?) from JFK to Heathrow. Nice and quiet flight, my first and maybe last in a A340.
I really like the time when Singapore Airlines using their modified A340-500 aircraft to operate the world's longest flight from Singapore to New York (SQ21&SQ22), before it was replaced with the Airbus A350-900ULR. The A340-500 is such a great aircraft for me.
The aircraft is magnificent, and awesome. thank you sam for your wonderful videos :)) it really makes my day! ur videos are the definition of perfect, and you're very good at what u do :) keep up the great work sam!! i will always be your supporter 😇😇☺stay safe!!
Yeah, I flew with Singapore Airlines using A340-500 aircraft from Seoul, Incheon International Airport (ICN), via Singapore (SIN) to (DXB) Dubai. It was marvellous with hospitable crews.
7:49 Azerbaijan is an independent state, we have our own language, we teach children English, not Russian. Azerbaijan has two languages, Azerbaijani and English.
Great vlog as always Sam! First time a flew an A340 was in May 1994. ATL-FRA. I think LH just started flying the 340 6 month prior. If you watch a video here on YT an Arik Air flown by High Fly LOS-LHR then the portogese captain tells us about this bad to bone -500 that Kingfisher had on order. It is an insane cool plane. Be safe!
The First class cabin and the Onboard bar reminds of an Arik air A340-500 (CS-TFW) which is currently grounded in Lagos's Murtala Mohammed international airport i miss the big beauty it was the first A340 of Nigeria before Azman air started operating the a340-600 that was originally operated by Virgin atlantic, but great video sam hope to keep up the good work!
Back in 2007, I flew from BKK to JFK and LAX to BKK on Thai Airways a345 flights. In my memory, they both were 17 hour flights, and that trip was my first intercontinental travel.
Remembering the long hauling delay at transit flight from Chennai to Riyadh via Colombo on Dec,2k15 ....flew with A340-300 from Paris to Colombo as a replacement for A330-300 ....
I enjoyed the Emirates A340-500 several times in F on the way to Australia and then on to New Zealand in the mid 2000s. At the time, it was the only way to fly from ME to Eastern Australia without a stop. This was also the first aircraft with their First Class Suite: their old F was lazy boy recliners. This F suite was a true step change in F travel, paving the way for other carriers to up their game. In some ways, particularly in terms of seat comfort, Ii still prefer this seat compared to their new "Game Changer" now installed on a few 777s.
I had the pleasure of flying in an A340-500 of Emirates from Dubai to Dar es Salaam and return in March of 2012. It was wonderfully quiet and comfortable. Although no airlines currently fly the A3405, there is at least one in service with the Royal Thai Air Force, tasked with carrying a certain well know person between Bangkok and Munich.
The A340 in general and especially the 500 and 600 are very passenger centric and comfortable, too bad circumstances changed in favor of twin engines these were great airplanes
I flew on it in like 2004 from Hamburg to Dubai. The plane was coming from New York and was a unique triangle connection by Emirates. Its sad that there are no NY flights at all now from HAM
