Come along as we take a quick flight in the Cirrus SR22 from Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota to Mackinac Island, Michigan. We toured the island, checked out the fort, had a great lunch downtown, and grabbed some fudge!
I love that part of life you’re only a kid for a short time I always tell kids enjoy it while you’re a kid because I’m a big believer in letting kids be what they are kids
Great video! It is awesome to see the kids involved with wheel chocks, covers and plugs! Memories that will stick with them for life! Just last weekend I was lucky enough to cross lake Michigan over Beaver island on a trip to the upper peninsula. Beautiful views!
Great video! I live about 30 miles south of Mackinaw City. And even though the island is spelled differently, we all pronounce it "Mackinaw". Fun fact and I won't get in the whole story but when we were becoming a state, the federal government hammered a deal for us give over territory which was basically Toledo, OH and Michigan got the upper peninsula...I think we got the better part of that deal! Glad you had a good time...and way to get back for the kids caffeine/sugar high with the fudge and bow and arrows!
Drove from Missouri then took the cool ferry over. Was a great vacation. Felt like back in time! No cars on the island! Bikes and horses.. no ac.. shops everywhere.
I think the kids passed out on the way home. They were exhausted but I haven't heard anything they won't get woken up I don't know yet I haven't finished the video but this is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time
Loved this trip. my twin and i grew up in southwest Michigan and visited the island in 1957 family vacation. we bicycled around the island . this was like bringing back special memories
My family went to visit Mackinac Island in the 70s. We stayed in Mackinac City on the mainland and took one of the ferryboat services to the island and spent the day there visiting the fort and the shops in the town. Back then you could bicycle around the island or take a horse and carriage as well to not only go on tours but take you and your luggage to the Grand Hotel if you plan to stay there. What's interesting also is that no cars or trucks are on the island for transportation but they do use electric vehicles like modified golf carts for maintenance and emergency services. One other thing, the movie "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeves and Jane Seymour was filmed on the island back in the 80s and the production company was allowed to ship 2 cars to the island for a few scenes at the Grand Hotel. It was a good movie too. I would love to go back and see the island once more.
It’s better to bicycle around because your bikes don’t poop all over and create a mess which is a health hazard and menace to the environment like the horses. I used to go downtown and the police horses had such a bad smell. I don’t know their carbon footprint (in fact, I don’t even know what a carbon footprint is) but horses must have a bigger footprint than bicycles. Where is Al Gore when you need him?

Worked on Mackinac Island as a gubernatorial honor guard for 3 summers. The island is just beautiful when most of the day tourists (or better known as fudgies" leave for the day. It was a beautiful trip for you.
Remind of my childhood. My Dad flew a Cessna to Mackinaw Island. Great to kids involved. I used to get in trouble because I enjoyed reading when fyijng🙃
Looks like fun! Lucky kids! I want to take my grandson and granddaughter who are 7 and 9 flying in my plane. My wife says that they do not have enough attention span to enjoy a flight until they are older! I am going to show this video to my wife to convince her to let me bring our grandkids up for a flight!
i’m 9 years old went to Mackinac island a few weeks ago and i love that place. one of my favorite things to do is flying! every chance i get i will take is i hope i get a plane one day 🙏
You guys are going to love Mackinac! I live in southwest Michigan, so I’ve been up to the island half a dozen times. Actually, when you guys were there, I was up there with my Scout troop serving on the island for a week! I’ve gotten the chance to fly out of the airport and it is beautiful!
A friend, my sister and I made this trip in the ‘80s. It was a fantastic trip. Our friend lived in Michigan and went there every year to do the race across the bridge back on the mainland. We had driven up the eastern coast of Michigan. Went thru Holland- such a wonderful trip!
You mean the western coast, Holland is on the west side of our state. My daughter graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan and it's a stones throw from Grand Rapids.
I’ve sailed to the Island. I’ve ridden my bike from St. Ignace to the Island. I’ve XC skied over to the Island. And of course taken the ferries. I want to stand up paddle across. And also fly. Side note: we spell Mackinac two different ways so we can spot the out-of-towers.
I live in Missouri now but came from Michigan. I’ve been here for 41 years but went home to Michigan just about every year. 10 hour trip by can, it sure is nice by air. We have property on Drummond Island, not too far north west from Mackinac. I LOVE it on Drummond.
Flown to Mackinaw Island several times. My wife’s family has two cottages west of the Mackinaw Bridge. We rent a plane with pilot so I can take the pictures. On a calm day there is the ruins of Waugoshance Lighthouse on the west shore of Lake Michigan. The lighthouse was used for practice bombing training for WWII. The lakebed as many dummy bombs near that lighthouse. We highly recommend a airplane tour of Mackinaw Island and Mackinaw Bridge. Mackinaw Island Fudge is the best.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m glad you got the kids in the back to not talk so much. There is something about children’s voices around that age that is so grating to the ears. Every word is said with an upward inflection and spoken like an opera singer. My friend has two kids around that age and every day we have to tell them to lower their voice because it always sounds like they are yelling. I swear they could be shipped to Ukraine and used as a substitute for the air raid sirens. Just have them talk in the loud speakers . Other than that, great video . What was that thing that your son tied on the wing of the plane after the wheel chocks?
We want to go there, it is a 2+30 flight or 8+ hour drive taking our horses. I don’t know if I want to fly up or vacation with my horses. I’ll be nice and take my family.
I'm so jealous ! I have 3 children . We're still watching the video. Whoa , island looks huge! I have family in Mi. Do you offer this service? Do they have a hotel? I'll look the island up when done. Curious of size & population. Thank you!
