Damn, you landed as if you've done that before! ;) Gliders are just so cool these days, just mad to think you are flying faster than many motorized GA airplanes and helicopters, sure, you might need to do some circling and stuff to get altitude at times but still, its amazing! :D

Good seeing you and your glider in person today. I am one of the tow pilots at the Uvalde WGC. With your self launcher I guess that you will not need my service!?😂

Oh he will! Those batteries won't get you home if you're really far away and the day dies. $5 he uses aerotow. Let me know! 😂

Awesome!.. This is what your AS33 was made for! Going FAST in super conditions! [EDIT, removed my remark about Oxygen, this flight was max 2500 meters, noticed in Weglide :-)] About conquering the heat.. I have seen glider pilots in these very hot conditions wear bright white oversized long sleeve shirts to keep the heat out of their body, where the sleeves sits very loosely atound your arms with lot of air between the sleeve and your skin. The blue jeans shirt you wear in this video was quite tight around your body and would not keep the heat out. Just think of the Arabian people in the sahara desert...They all wear wide long white dresses that sit loosely around their bodies.. It is just the best way to keep the heat out. Also as a hat, I use a Hypercool baseball cap or bandana when it gets above 30 degrees celcius. Just Before flight soak it in cold water, and during flight the silica gel slowly evaporates the water, keeping your head cool, this takes about 3-4 hours... A small wet towel around your neck also helps... If it gets so hot I always take a wet towel with me, and the hypercool cap. This really helps! Anyway, Please take good care of yourself! a Happy pilot wins contests!.

Sounds really tough with the heat on the ground! Probably still hot when coming lower for landing in the evening? Running a little AC unit off the batteries would be amazing! Since it's just 1kW for an efficient electric car, should be a bit less still for the small cockpit (even though it has a lot of sun coming in). So 10h or so of AC should be possible with a full battery charge! Maybe pitch the idea to Schleicher 😄 Would be great to dry the air as well in moist conditions to stop the canopy from fogging up.

Hey, have an awesome contest week, I'm jealous for sure! That was an awesome final glide. I had a great flight over the cascades on 08/08, Team flew with Ron Clark. We had a race to finish at the end, not quite as fast as your new Bird though, that glider must be a dream!

Stefan - maybe one day do a video on how you physically prepare for that kind of heat! In florida we see 37-39°C on the field. If you get low during a flight, it gets really uncomfortable really fast. Which can be unsafe in itself. I see you're wearing pants and long sleeves. What type of material is it to stay cool? Also, do you bring ice packs or anything like that with you?

Could you elaborate on the ballast? What does more ballast do? What did you mean about the weather in Germany?
@SteFly
@SteFly Месяц назад
More ballast is better for great thermal conditions. You can fly faster with the same glide ratio but of course it will take slightly more time to climb in a thermal. In Germany the thermals are not as strong as here in Texas.
@budyeddi5814
@budyeddi5814 Месяц назад
@@SteFly more weight= faster is quite puzzling😆 Thanks for the insight
@karljunk6373
@karljunk6373 Месяц назад
@@budyeddi5814 When circling in a thermal, the plane gains potential energy, just by the mass of the plane being elevated. The more mass you have, the more energy the plane gains with the height increasing. When gliding forward, the potential energy is transformed into forward thrust. The more mass you have the more energy is available, which means you can fly faster.
@crazynemo131

@@budyeddi5814It is similar like riding cart or bike downhill, heavier person goes faster(similar resistance but hire force from gravity on same slope)

G,day Stefan from Sydney Australia. Just couldn't see the border wall in the video. Why do you carry water in the wings? Is it called the ballest, like a ship on the ocean? Moreover is for stability in the roll axis? 🌏🇦🇺
@safetyinstructor
@safetyinstructor 22 дня назад
Yes, it is called water ballast. You take water with you on days with very good thermals. It helps you fly faster more efficiently
