You need large open spaces to take off and land safely so if you live in the city or a heavily forested area there's no way you're going to be able to fly one of these. Even in rural areas there are going to be places you just cant go. If the weather or wind is bad, you're pretty much screwed. You also need clear visibility to avoid crashing into things (which is pretty much certain death at the speeds he is traveling) which means you can't fly at night or when it's foggy. No storage or air conditioning. These are a lot of fun but they don't replace cars.

You know, when he said the $10,000 thing, noting it as a reason why it's not practical to use it instead of a car, I thought, don't cars generally cost much more that that? And I realised, I've been thinking this is so expensive, when really, it does something rather similar to a car, and is actually cheaper... (Obviously there are many other reasons why it's not practical as a "car replacement" but still... It really put the cost into perspective to me)

@Grace4You I refer you to my above comment where I referenced the Icarus race. Evidently the weather restrictions aren't that bad. In any case, you're completely missing my original point, which was not to say that it can be used for the exact purposes that a car can, but that $10,000 isn't really that expensive given that this is a mode of transport. Again, have a look through Tucker's RU-vid channel, he's actually traveled quite a distance using his paramotor on various flights. Nothing to be "scared" of...

You do not need a pilots license to fly a experimental aircraft (anything weighing under 250 LB). However its illegal to fly over a populated area.

Great video. Flying with a paramotor looks incredible. Your video also includes (unintentionally, of course) a glimpse into the 'nostalgia' of being able to simply go to a fully stocked grocery store without having to wait in a long line and hoping that what you need is there. It's amazing how fast life can change and the things we took for granted can be taken away. Looking forward to a return to the 'normalcy' depicted in this video. Have fun. Stay safe.

I was afraid of heights........jumped out of a plane tandem skydive 20 years ago. Then I bought my own parasail a flew it for 2 summers on the local lakes. Both were a blast . I still am afraid heights but mostly of falling unaided by a parachute...mostly. I am also afraid of widths sometimes too.

The cost, training and other hurdles would just be so worth it. Being able to get away and take an hour to fly and get above the clouds, clear your head when you turn it off and float down is pretty much priceless imo. Eventually getting comfortable enough to get to the height you got to, could you see the curvature of the Earth in your 17,000ft video? Or the blackness of space creep in? You can't put a price on that, you only need yourself and you can do it whenever you want. Jealous.
