Thanks! We gotta credit our friend ProfoWon for helping us with the subtitles. It is important for the younger generations to know the names of these pioneers.
damn I wish we had youtube back then..we had to do it the old school way..if someone had a breaking video..u borrow it and dub the video tape..some video were dub so much that by the time it go to u..u couldn't see anything..LOL..I know there's ppl out there, who know what I'm talking about..lol..
And then dying out trying to find those dope beats somewhere, remember using SoulSeek the most rarest p2p underground networking and exchanging with vinyl records being digitized, it was so rare that in my Latvia country I was the Number 1 music digger related to brake dance and rare hiphop, I love that time so much as that's my childhood.
I watched BOTY '99 over and over and over, doing the press pause button repeatedly to get a slo-mo effect so I could pick up the finer details of power moves. Slowly, people started to put up tutorials on breakin forums... _text_ tutorials lol. Lots of hours spent trying to figure everything out on my own, lots of bruises and scrapes, twists and sprains. Years later, there are dozens of tutorials for everything right at the fingertips of the newcomers. Enjoy the free knowledge, everyone.
if we had youtube back then everybody would look the same like they do now, youtubes really killed the mystery, not knowing your opponent was half the excitement, now you know his trademarks everything about his dance up front
@@oldskoolfool141 FACT !!!! I got into breaking in 98 but was still a kid. By 2001 I was beginning to learn actual basic power. By 2003 I borrowed FSS5 and the move I fantasized about ( Airflare ) was being done before my eyes ( Moy, Qurious George, Ruen, etc ... ). I never knew it existed up until that point ! That's when I started getting serious about breaking and I learned in about a year and a half how to do many power moves including Airflare. My form wasn't the best but it was decent for that time given I had no flexibility. Nowadays, everybody looks the same as you said. So much that I think 6 years ago is when I actually stopped breaking given my lifestyle and other distractions. It wasn't interesting to try and keep improving. All the Asians practice the same power moves and power combos. They are all ripoffs of each other. The whole part of getting a hold of a VHS, slowing and rewinding moves to be able to learn and practice while showing up to a jam or a party where you were oblivious as to whether or not you might run into someone who could get down was the whole element of surprise. Just like Kujo said about his style in an interview. Nobody knew what you had in your arsenal and nobody knew whether you improved or not. That was the best part about breaking looking back.
Wow who would have thought in the year 2021 these bboys would be the legends we still watch and could out class most of these cats today . This was like the PRO BOWL or ALL STAR game for Bboys . 💯 RIP TO THE LEGEND . MY UNCLE PABLO .
My Song lists identified so far (took fucking lots of years to figure out what tracks been played as used to be a vinyl digger) 1. 0:10 Bootman - To The Hip Hop (one of my favourite among the others, first time discovered at FSS 1997) 2. 1:40 - still can't find exact match some mix with Mohawks The Champ 3. 2:32 - Chop Shop - Funkay (one of my favourites as well) 4. 3:23 - Unknown beat something sampled from Everybody Get 5. 4:36 - Chop Shop - Jitta Bug (one of my favourites as well) Will update other songs later Enjoy.
Much Respect! If it weren't for the old school breakers, We new school breakers wouldn't know about Bboying. As power move artist/ breakers we gotta give respect where credit is do. May the Lord be with our old school, and new school breakers! God Bless Hip Hop
wow i was in the hospital with a broken ankle ... i wish i was there to help out my crew ... this is bboy spy-d ... the maker of power move ... i made up the revers flares and the basketball combos and rollerblade combos and more ... but yes i do wish i was there i wonder what the out come would had been like with my move added to the table ... let me no what you think ... if you all remember me.. :)
Very Nice Upload i agree this is an Historical Moment;-))) One of my Favorite Battles... Much Respect to Dj Charlie Rock!!!!!!!! The PLAYLIST was Really HYPE Maybe the best i ever Heard in A Battle.......
i remember this battle! i used to wear the same shirts, hats and shoes. lol this was at the height of my own personal b-boying experience -- i had some injuries and broken bones in Nov 1998 that put me out of action for awhile, and then college and life just happened and i never seriously got back into dancing. but my heart has always been with the b-boy culture to this day. storm, ivan, kujo... such major influences!
One of the best freestyle session of all time, epic battle between to power House crews soul control innovators of alot of power moves an variation of combo's ect flying tortilla's made up mostly of style elements crew were innovators of raw style blended footwork /power /freeze /flips. had this tape back in the day, practice alot of the moves on here to help win some battles haha. Freestyle session was definitely number one bboy video competition for me.
Idk if it's due to knowing who these guys are today or just how long ago this battle was but this automatically one my all time favorite battles now. I seriously mean that. No bites being called, the crowd is hype, both crews look they're just having fun. You can totally see the difference from today's scene
The highlight of this tape, for me, was in one of the earlier rounds, when Ivan sprang up and down, first on one hand, then on his elbow, then on his chest! I'd never seen anything like it before at the time, and it blew my mind. I remember Alien Ness trying the same move, at the 2000 UK B-boy Champs, but it didn't look anywhere near as good. Does anyone know how old Ivan is now?
когда мне было 16 лет (2001г), в программе "башня" по второму, показывали сюжет об этом сэйшене, приятно спустя столько времени посмотреть финальный баттл)))
Yeaah, I definitely agree. It's just a lot of crews these days at jams just seem to have so little regard for each other's space, moves, and demeanor. Sometimes it's pretty disrespectful. But a battle is a battle, and it's subjective to each bboy to take it how they want. But I agree with what you're saying!
Damn forgot all about this, I just recently started bboying again last year after 20 years not breakin. Sht hard as fk now but think I'm getting it. Flomaster and Wicket were by last week since it was Wicket's bday and he went 1 round with everyone there for his bday rounds, what a beast he was exhausted and had hella stamina against like 20 people.
Crews still have respect for eachother. But it just so happens the crews battling here have members that inspired eachother, done shows together, and are good friends. Crews nowadays will have the same respect if they are as cool with eachother as the crews here. Sometimes there is the hardcore battle mentality too. Enemies during the battle, friends afterwards.
They might have it raw in colour version, but the VHS they released back in 1998 was in Sepia like this recording, I still have this VHS and FSS 5 was awesome as well, it was released in 1999, that was one released in colour version.
