This is my latest DIY Guitar Kit I bought from www.guitarkit.shop aka Pango Music.
It is an all Zebrawood Flying V (PFV-670) Electric 6 String.
I have just completed it yesterday Monday 26.12.2022.
The body, neck and all hardware are from the kit. The completed guitar has no upgrades.
Details:
The Neck Finish. I used a combination of boiled linseed oil and white spirits with wet and dry sand paper. Started with 800 grit moving onto 1200, 1500 and finishing with 2000 grit.
So the neck is super slick and smooth.
The Body Finish. I used Feast Watson wipe-on poly gloss. It is an oil based polyurethane.
Then done level sanding starting at 800 grit then moving onto 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 and finishing with 3000 grit.
I used a cut and polish on the first step of buffing then finished with a cream polish for the final buff.

I'm working on the same kit right now and trying to figure out the wiring. Any words of advice for someone on their 1st build? The last 3 seconds of this video were the most helpful, but I'd love to know exactly what you did to get all the electronics put together. Thanks!
@aussiedrives-4K

Hi Jeff, congratulations on your 1st build. If you lay out your wire loom you will have the 3 way switch followed by the neck volume pot then the bridge volume pot. And then the tone pot. You will have 2 wires from the neck pickup. Solder the white wire to the 1st lug on the neck volume pot. Then solder the bare wire to the back of the same pot. ( 1st lug is if you position the pot with the lugs at the top and top of pot facing you.) The bridge pickup is the same but obviously on the bridge volume pot. The tone pot will have a red wire that gets soldered to the middle ring of the jack and then you have 2 black earth wires. 1 goes to the jack outer ring and the other goes through the pre drilled hole in the body that goes to the bridge post. If you have any further questions I am only too happy to answer. Best of luck and let me know how it goes. Cheers 🎸😊

@@aussiedrives-4K While this is great instruction (THANK YOU!) I still ended up taking it to a local music shop for them to wire and assemble. I'm glad I did too, they said all of the wires that came connected to pots needed to be re-soldered. The pickup cavities needed to be expanded to fit the hardware it shipped with, and the truss rod cover wasn't big enough to cover the hole so they installed a slightly larger one. Needless to say, while it's a beautiful guitar, there are some quality control issues I'm not happy about. Ended up being much more expensive to get done than I anticipated. Likely won't buy from Pango again...

@@jeffshepherd4128👍 Thanks for getting back to me to let me know how it went. Wow, I am sorry to hear you had all these issues with your kit.😢 I have 2 kits from Pango and they were both perfect. But having said that I bought an explorer kit from Swamp Music and had nothing but issues with that kit including missing screws and the wrong wiring loom sent. So I know how frustrating it can be. You should get back in touch with Pango and see if they can compensate you somehow. I hope all ends up okay.🎸

I have a few questions. 1t are the tuners any good, does it stay in tune or is there string slipage? How does the pickups sound?
@aussiedrives-4K
@aussiedrives-4K Год назад
Hi Mike, I have had no problems with the tuners no slippage. Like any guitar it will stay in tune as long as your set up is right Truss rod adjustment if required then the bridge height and any nut adjustment depending on what gage strings you are using and then the most important part is the intonation. I have several diy kits from different company's and they all have crappy strings. I suggest throw the strings away that come with the kit and put your favorite brand strings on. The pickups are the best I have from any of my DIY Kits so far. They are good mid-range quality but you can always upgrade to better ones if needed. I hope this helps. If you have any further questions I am only too happy to answer. Cheers 🎸👍

It feels like any V nicely balanced and plays really well. As far as the sustain goes it's average. If you want better sustain change the nut to either a brass or bone nut. That will make a big difference. Or you can go one step further and change the saddles to brass as well. 🎸🎸🎸

Pffff, they make the entire thing out of a manifactured wood substitue, and they can't even be bothered to make a neck correctly. The scarf joint I'll give them, but the other bit they added on to make it a set neck... no.

I agree the add on to the set neck is a cost saving method. But I have seen the same on big brand names also! At least there is no shims. But there is a massive price difference between them so I would consider it well worth it.

Are you aware that Pango offers a $15 refund if you make a YT video and promote them? If "Yes", did they reimburse you $15? I'm having an issue with Pango at the moment. I placed a custom order on Jan. 27, 2023 and was told it would take about 45 days. I waited 60 before asking for an update. I was told they just came back from their holiday and the builds are a little slower than usual, and asked me to please wait a little longer. So I waited another 3 weeks before asking for an update. I am told "Your kit is almost done." 2 weeks later I ask for an update and again "It is almost ready. We need another 5-7 days." I give them 11 days before asking for another update. No response. A few days later I ask again. Again, no reply. So I tell them if they do not answer, I will start a refund claim with PayPal. No answer. So I start the claim process and THEN they contact me asking why I am doing this. By the way, back when I was asking for updates, they told me if I can't wait, I can ask for a refund and they will give it to me. Anyway, I explain to them that they are always telling me it is "almost done" and keep asking me to wait. I only have 180 days from the time of ordering, to qualify for a refund thru PayPal, and those 180 days are almost up. I feel they are stalling so that time runs out and I can't get my money back. So I said I would mention their business practices on my RU-vid channel. They replied with "We see what kind of person you are. Send us the video link. And we will tell the world about you." They want the link so they can get my channel name. Even if I had more than the piddly little 90 subscribers, I highly doubt they could discredit me and hurt my channel in any way. It was pretty funny that they used that as a threat. So they told me a few times to cancel the claim ASAP or else they would never do business with me again. As if I planned on using them again. Again I told them time is running out and I want to make sure I can get my money back. Suddenly the guitar is ready. They sent me pictures and they did not drill the mounting holes for the Floyd Rose studs, and they did not paint it. Again they said "Cancel the claim ASAP or we will send the guitar directly." I guess "directly" means unpainted because they said it would take another 7 days for paint. I feel they are still trying to stall for time. I said I will not cancel, and if they send the guitar unpainted, then they are not fulfilling my request on the custom kit. I paid extra for the Floyd Rose rout and a paint job. If they send it unpainted, I should be entitled to some sort of refund. Anyway, sorry for ranting. lol They sent me a UPS tracking number which doesn't yet show any info. So I have no idea if the guitar is actually in transit or not. If they did send it, I will do a review on it (I wonder if they'll honor their $15 refund for making a RU-vid video on the purchase). I just find it to be poor business practice to offer a refund, and then when I ask for one, they don't respond, causing me to file a claim with PayPal, and then get an attitude with me for doing so. I just don't trust them. How can you? When they don't even use their real names. I was dealing with "Ann" and then got an update from "Alice". I've contacted other Chinese manufacturers about having a custom build, and have dealt with "Amanda", "Ashley", "Becky", "Mary" and "Tiffany". So I guess every Chinese guitar company is run by a woman and none of them have traditional Chinese names. Anyway, in case you were wondering what I ordered, it was the Steinberger headless kit PWT-716, but with a rout for a Floyd Rose (I'll have to get a neck with a headstock) and to have it painted white since I live in a condo and have nowhere to paint it. I told them I didn't even want the pickups or electronics. Just the body, neck (I might be able to use that on a guitar I got from DHGate), the cavity cover and the neck mounting screws. So I saved them some money. They can use that stuff on another kit.
@aussiedrives-4K
@aussiedrives-4K Год назад
Wow! I feel really sorry for you. That is unbelievably bad business. Hopefully you will get your guitar soon. Best of luck with the build etc... as you well and truly deserve it. As far as the refund for the YT vid. Yes I got $30 refunded as I posted two YT videos. This video and another on another V kit. I will keep an eye out for your YT video.
