Lacey came to speak at my school a while back - I can honestly say I don't think I've ever met someone as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. I got to speak with her for a moment afterwards and she just... felt real. Amazing moment, amazing artist.
It's very rare for bands to outright address in such an intimate way whenever a member leaves, death is one thing, yes...but when a member has to leave usually no one sees it coming. Lacey had planned this it seems though and with her band made a beautiful video that looks to a brand new chapter in her life. Best of luck to her family.
Photos of the band, videos of their tours, band performing in a small homey area, clips of Lacey (without the band) in some garden, short clip of "empty" microphone, Lacey having some kind of picnic with her son and husband. They really did a great job making this a video a farewell MV to Ms. Lacey Strum.
Lacey looks so happy during that last chorus. It makes me cry with joy that she found her happiness. I can only hope that I get the chance to feel that kind of joy in my life. God bless her and her family.
if you notice, once they show her in TX getting the package, from then on all the shots of the band in the grayish/hazy room have an empty mic in the middle of the room pointing straight up. whoever directed the video did a great job with that ...and really incorporating nostalgia as a theme throughout the video. things coming to a close and looking back over that chapter with fondness.
Yeah, still so sad untill now. I like your voice Lacey, I wish I could see them perform and I will sing together. Hope the new singer better and FLYLEAF is still FLYLEAF, Love U All..
I will keep singing this amazing song until I stay here on earth. That song is amazing (forgive me if I put something wrong English is not my native language). God bless you.
2020 and I'm going through all Flyleaf's videos. Still holding out hope they get back together. I miss them, I miss Lacey. Super proud of them for all being successful outside of the band, though. You have all my love, Flyleaf. ❤
1:27 I read Lacey's book called "The Reason" and she talks about the tragic death of their sound engineer, Rich Caldwell. It was the same period of time when they were producing "Memento Mori" (in Latin=remember death/that you are mortal) I just realized now that the guy in the photo on the desk is him.... nice memento of him in this farewell video which features a lot of Flyleaf moments... :)
To expand on the meaning of momento mori, its not just a remembrance of death in some nihilistic sense. But a stoic mantra to anchor yourself mentally. Times are great and everything is going well? Momento mori, none of these material possessions will be taken with you when you die. Times are hard and you are having a tough time getting by? Momento Mori, this suffering is temporary, so why let it burden you so? Its about humility in success and perseverance in failure.
The new singer is very talented, but she's not lacey. part of the huge reason i've always loved flyleaf is because of lacey's gorgeous voice that sounded so raw and beautiful
i really respect the guts it must have taken for Kristen May to step up and do her best to fill Lacey's shoes. Lacey may be a tiny person but she has a huge voice and the spirit and passion to match it.
I love Flyleaf with Lacey or without. The songs are still amazing and people should stop complaining about she taking some time away from the band to spend time with her child
+Breaking Light That was my thinking exactly.Like I feel like she knew that she was ganna go one day, and that the band wouldn't always be what it was, so she write this.
+Breaking Light the video was her goodbye... if you notice the first two verses lacy is singing with the band and then after they play to an empty mic whilst she returns to her family and they send her a memento... expertly done
She didn't write this song Pat the bass player wrote it and yeah all of them felt that she was drifting away.. They broke up long ago before releasing the album and before their benefit concert for their sound engineer.
I'm glad Lacey's happy; I'm just gonna miss her making new music. Her testimony has been such an inspiration to me. What's funny is, even before I became a Christian, I listened to Flyleaf. To put it mildly, I wasn't a happy person. After I began a relationship w/Jesus, I started listening to Flyleaf's newest album at the time: "Momento Mori." I looked through the album cover, & the song descriptions helped me through the trials I was going through. It was a blessing to have such motivational music through that album, considering what little money we had at the time. Now it's great for me, as a fan, to know that she's doing so well. Sorry for making such a long paragraph; this just touches me.(:
I love the fact that Lacey, one of the biggest hard rock voices of a generation, can look and sound just as hardcore in a sundress. She dances like a child and sings with a voice that cannot be matched. Her songs have a wicked sound but always such heartwarming meaning. She is sheer contradiction in all she does. I love it.
It makes me very sad Flyleaf isn't going to be making music anymore, a lot of their songs seriously saved my life & gave me hope when I didn't think much of myself. I kinda grew up with this band & i'm glad to see them move on to better happier things, like myself. Flyleaf forever!!!!
Anyone else get taken on an emotional rollercoaster back in time to their own youth while watching the band go through their memories in photographs? Tears were shed watching this.
Cronos Gesshoku not that I dislike the new singer or anything.. but that's such a dumb way to reason.. you don't have to be expert to call something as bad, especially music or art. I may not be an actor but I know the main characters in sharknado aren't very talented. I may not be a chef, but I can still taste when food is prepared poorly, etc.. Basically, you don't need to be a professional singer to know most of the kids at Arc Music suck lol..
vexx506 opinions, opinions. who cares? its not like the world hates her. YOUR world maybe, but spreading the dislike with opinionated reasons, really aint gonna do you much good my friend. my opinion? uhm- its music. and i fricken like it!
Niky9965 If you'll re-read my comment I said that I had no problem with the singer.. just your logic bothered me. (though I like the original lead better).
So thinking be nice give the new girl a chance, right? I watched her old group Vedera and it was slow, light, rainbows, kittens, and she had this sweet Carrie Underwood voice then per her agent auditions for flyleaf??? That is like drinking water your whole life and then having a 10 pump expresso. She is trying to sound like Lacey and she just does not have it, I saw that poor girl Kristen May push so hard in an acoustic set for radio, turned red, veins popping out her neck. She is going to lose her voice, singers who do everything right still at times lose their voice. Oh Flyleaf I will mourn you.....what,huh,Lacey is putting out her own album? Hum.
There are some bands where you could replace anyone and they could carry on fine regardless. However, there are definitely some bands where a specific member (usually, not always!, the vocalist/ writer) makes the band. Lacey was that member in flyleaf.
This song hits deep and hard on me in a way that I can't readily explain but feels so good like I'm set free from the bitter past, to happily explore life's beautiful new horizons. LYRICS So you're tired but you're alive So open up your eyes and You can get your sleep when you are dead Kill the clock inside your head Bring your normal sea to the edge and watch it drown in new horizons New horizons You said I'd only have to wait until I die but that's in no time How did we come to thinking this was funny? Cheering and laughing at the dying, While we're riding the light in you. Wait, you said I'd only have to wait until I die, new horizons. There is no such thing as time inside this moment, no sun rising Wait until I fly, new horizons. Wait until I fly, new horizons. Sin with a conquest, lifeless. Sin with a new quest Here's a voice for the voiceless, And a song for the souless life of sin. Wait, you said I'd only have to wait until I die, new horizons. There is no such thing as time inside this moment no sun rising Wait until I fly, new horizons. Wait until I fly, new horizons. When the times keep going wrong when we go right When the times keep going wrong when we go right Wait. You said I'd only have to wait until I die, new horizons There is no such thing as time inside this moment no sun rising Wait until I fly, new horizons. Oh, wait until I fly, new horizons. Oh, with me? wait until I fly, new horizons. There is no such thing as time inside this moment, no sun rising. Wait until I fly When the times keep going wrong when we go right We go right
I miss Lacey. Just like I miss Peter Furler being in Newsboys. Sure, the bands go on and make great music (the new singers are gifted too), but I do miss the original sound. I know things change and life goes on, but when it comes to Flyleaf and Newsboys, I'll always go back to the classics. Love this song!
Peter Furler (and Phil Joel) are rejoining NewsBoys for a tour this Winter. However, Peter Furler was originally their drummer. Their original lead singer was John James. I would also add, at least Flyleaf maintained some original members. NewsBoys (prior or Peter rejoining) has had no original members for a long time.
When Lacey left the group, I thought that it was the end of Flyleaf, but Kirsten did well and now Flyleaf keeps rocking) Ofc, Flyleaf is not the same without Lacey, but it didnt become worse, imo
Did you ever see them when they were Passerby? Im from Temple so i've seen them perform 4-5 times as Flyleaf and 2 or 3 times when they were Passerby. They used to put on shows at FUMC and Bethel. Good memories.
This video always make me cry because this is Lacey's goodbye video. It truly breaks my heart. I have been a fan for about eight years. But I am greatful that Lacey is happy with her family and loving husband.
Stop comparing the two leads! Seriously - Lacey was Lacey and she was great, amazing really, but Kristen is Kristen and she will do great for Flyleaf and if your any bit of a fan of the band you'll accept her and grow as a fan!
DarkSinnister The internet is a social place, not a rudie tutie sunday stroll down bitchen avanue, DarkSinnister, fix your emotional expressions, then comment when you can be positive.
Those 3 guys Hey, you just said "The internet is a social place" so I am more than welcome to express how I feel and think. I said what I did cause I am so fucking sick and tired of people not READING before commenting. Simple as that. I leave it to the public to like or dislike what they want. They hate what I have to say? Then fine, I am cool with that.
They are still a christian band, just because they changed lead singers doesn't mean they are going to change as a whole. And from what I've seen, Kristen is just as religious as Lacey if not more.
To be fair, Flyleaf publically denounced the label Christian band. I think that goes to show that regardless of their beliefs, in the end, it's about the music and it's always been.
WanderingKit they're actually considered a Rock band with Christian themes. And good chunk of their songs have heavy Christian themes. The Kind and In The Dark come to mind, which are my two favorite Flyleaf songs.
Finish strong like a good person?! Why is this happening, a question whether to keep moving on or stare into the problem like I have none, whatever the conquest remember wait until I fly new horizons that I don't care about abandoning the hurt for a piece of ease all swallowed by my greed to leave me coherent the moves that eventually get stuck into more moves I guess, which is like staying innocent till the day it isn't right!
People who think Flyleaf isn't or won't be Flyleaf without Lacey need to grow up. A band is more than one person. Flyleaf is more than just Lacey. If you're a real Flyleaf fan, you'll support Flyleaf whether Lacey is part of the band or not. I still love Flyleaf even though I miss Lacey
This video makes me cry. Knowing what Lacey went through to now see she has a family and baby, the miracle of life... it gives me hope that the same thing can happen to me. God bless you all.
