The lyrics, absolutely make me think of Eve in the Bible, back in the garden of Eden.. Like sumone said on here, Uncle Bobby is a nickname for death... These lyrics seem to point to Eve bringing sin into the world, with the consequence of death following. But Then the redemption through Jesus came along and swallowed up death, bringing life.
like alot of thier songs they can have different meanings to different people but the message is timeless. God heals and restores and in him there is life everlasting.
I think this song is about when she found out her three-year-old cousin died from child abuse. That was when her depression started, so when she referring to 'her' she was meaning 'herself'. She wanted to die but then God saved her from death, so life over-powered death, and she decided to live on. And also the song got its name from her uncle bobby who killed her cousin.
"A call to be still" = a bible verse that says "Be still & know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10) Oh, glory! We will rise to eternal life, despite the death of our sIn, because of the price Jesus paid for us! :)
That's because "Uncle Bobby" is a hidden track that is placed before "Beautiful Bride". The song can be heard by rewinding the disc to -4:28. On digital versions of the album, the song is track 15, after "Arise".
Knowledge came and devastated Pressure building behind her eyes Breathing buried under the weight Will she, has she died also this day Her death has been swallowed up by life This dead will rise Dying to death and raising to life The moment we became alive death was waiting, chasing And all of us fell and kept breathing One day, today A spirits alive, a body has died And death has been swallowed up by life This death will rise Dying to death and raising to life With mournful joy she finally lets out her cry Death has been swallowed up by life This dead will rise In the middle of All the business A call to be still Multitude of words Quiet be still And death has been swallowed up by life This death will rise Dying to death and raising to life With mournful joy she finally lets out her cry Death has been swallowed up by life This dead will rise
i admire your strength and your faith in Christ. ive had a TON of people in my lifetime. and i hated God for it, for a while. but now i see His love and His purpose. His beauty and grace. this has made me strong.
Dying to death, means dying to sIn (sIn is equated with death in the scriptures) = repenting, which leads to new life (raising to life) in Christ (= being born again). As to the specifics of the song's background (Unc Bob?, she?) I'm not exactly sure, but come to think of it, I reckon 'she' is Eve, and the song seems to be about the original sin of Eve, and God's rescue plan 4 mankind!?
@13hockeyswim13 Rewind to -4:28 (negative 4:28) actually!...start playing track 1 (Beautiful Bride), then press & hold rewind, so that it goes back past 0:00, and back to -4:28! So GOOD & TRICKY too! WOO HOO! :)
I love this song and have sung it more times then I can count.... However, while this vid is a nice recording of the audio, the screen lyrics aren't sync'ed with the vocals. There's a noticeable delay. Just be wary to new vocalists trying to learn this song
Oh, fuck it all! Sick of being sick and tired, Sick of understanding Tired of feeling sick to my stomach Demons inside command me They're saying crush it, break it, smash it Fuckin' kill 'em all! Laugh as it falls away I won't dodge another silver bullet Just to save a little face [Chorus:] I want you to know, I want you to see I want you to look beyond your own eyes Past your afflictions How many people really care? How many will be standing? I'll light the match, the flame, the fuse, the bomb Rescue the world from slavery I wanna torch it, burn it, scorch it, Fuckin' stomp it out Laugh as it blows away I won't eat another rotten apple Though I've grown to like the taste [Chorus:] I want you to know, I want you to see I want you to look beyond your own eyes Past your afflictions I want you to hurt, want you to bleed I want you to look beyond your own face Past your infections I'm taking back control with my knuckles I'm taking back control with my knuckles I'm taking back control with my knuckles I'm taking back control with my knuckles [guitar solo] Smash it, burn it, break it, kill it Fuck 'em all! [Chorus:] I want you to know, I want you to see I want you to look beyond your own eyes Past your afflictions I want you to hurt, want you to bleed I want you to look beyond your own face Past your infections
This reminds me of my grandma she past by COVID I didn't cry at her funeral I couldn't idk why but in my bfs car my ex now I was screaming and crying cussing God for taking her even tho it wasn't his fault rip gram gram I miss u so much
Especially when it says "knowledge came and devistated" When Eve sinned, the consequence was the knowledge of good and evil, bringing in the ability to chose evil, in which the consequence of death follows.
@greencherry5 Yeah, RAD song 4 sure! Flyleaf are always very good! Meaning...it is obviously an overtly Chirstian song - Christianity/the bible are all about death & life (death to yourselfishness, eternal life). There's a bible verse about death being swallowed up by life. Jesus rose from the dead, and the dead in Christ will one day rise likewise...
@StayReal4God OK, this is fun!...Put the MM CD into a normal CD player (ie. NOT a computer's CD drive) & let it start playing Beautiful Bride, then rewind (reverse fastplay) back PAST 0:00 to -4:23 and let it play from there & you'll have Uncle Bobby to enjoy! :)
I am intrigued about why it's called Uncle Bobby? Her death (Eve's sIn, that has come upon all of mankind) has been swallowed up by Christ's life giving sacrifice! :)
Feel it fleeding back to the sound of knowledge breaking out into her skin, now u know i feel more you in the moment of battle,no warfare fire on till the cloak dissolves into your soul, now know what your missing in you,its me press into sleep for more piece in that too
Hey Shadowspeace, thanks heaps for posting this video - especially the lyrics! Sorry for taking over the comments with my excitement/appreciation/interperetation! I get carried away sometimes!?
I had the memento mori CD too, I did get it when I was 12 years old, The time when I was one year in psychiatric hospital. I was allowed to hear music in my Room. So this was the soundtrack of my teenage desperate I still feel it . Today at 23 years
@NicoleMarieButterfly Thanks, it certainly could be, but even so it is still primarily about the salvation that she has in death as a Christian lady ("Her death has been swallowed up by LIFE - this dead will rise! Dying to death & raising to LIFE!")! Either interpretation is HEAVY 4 sure! The problem of sin in our lives & the spiritual death that it brings - which Jesus swallowed up by his death & LIFE OR the problem of death/cancer that came upon our world as a result of Adam & Eves sin! :(
Pressure building behind her eyes = tempted by the look of the fruit on the tree, buried under the weight of the temptation & she died (spiritually & eventually leading to her physical death, and passing her death onto all of us) when she ate the forbidden fruit, and that's why death is waiting for & chasing us from the moment we're born! And all of us FELL but kept breathing - we died spiritually, despite still living physically!
@shapeshifter567 Yeah, could be, 4 sure. But would be good to know 4 sure, rather than guessing. Seems a bit random for FL - they usually have very significant (& usually spiritual/biblical) meanings/reasons behind most of what they do/sing.
Alright, it IS actually on my CD, WMP just wasn't allowing me to access it! And I just realised that the opening line, "KNOWLEDGE came & devistated", confirms that the song IS about the fall of man in the garden of Eden - it was the tree of the KNOWLEDGE of good & evil that they ate from! Now the only mystery is Uncle Bobby? ANy thoughts anyone?
@joshpenecost09 So if my great great great great great great great great grandfather stole something I should be punished for it? Also I think it shows something that for us to be forgiven someones blood had to be shed. Still love the song, though it obviously has a different meaning for me.
@13hockeyswim13 lol xD i bought memento mori so i could use the cd if i wanted 2 do my talent show and when i wanna piss my mom off by blasting music xD and i wanted the free downloads that came with it... i should have gotten the deluxe version cuz it came with 6 webisode downloads
@loufordian Cool, stoke U R not C! :) Thx 4 gettin what I mean. I see what you're sayin, but I don't reckon it really fits very well, but hey who cares what I think anyway!? lol God & Flyleaf KNOW, and it is intriguing, but we may not know 4 sure til we all get to Heaven...& we can ask God, or Lacey what THEY were singing about in UB!?! O GLORY! :) Blessings on U sister!
@loufordian Thanks for your comment, but I have no idea what U mean about a Mary vibe!? I am a Christian, and have no knowledge of Catholic Mary stuff?! How does sad & death being chased away relate to Mary?! No worries, I just don't know what U mean! lol
@wonbytheson But why would the actions of one be EVERYONE'S fault? If, say, my aunt were to murder someone, should I be put in jail too along with everyone else in my family?
@muimui150x it is. Its the "hidden" pregap song. Essentially put the cd in a reg cd player, and hold the 'backskip" button all the way to 4:27 and there's this song
