My first ever Flight was on a DC9. 1987 Dublin to Ibiza with a Spanish Airline called Aviaco. I was scared stiff because it looked like a Dart! Like in this video we were bussed out to it. What made it worse was it was a night flight and we were taking off into a black sky. Once we were up and cruising I calmed down and have been hooked on Air Travel ever since. The scariest part was the powering up of those rear engines. I was sitting in the back near to them. This video brought back that memory. An amazing sound. Good times.

Please not! Sorry for breaking up the party but these 7 minutes are full of mistakes / pilot error. Can you tell me who's pilot flying? The CPT who's also answering radio calls while handflying and the FO searches for landing performance charts shortly after takeoff in low altitude with thunderstorm clouds around the aircraft? Later on (hard to see if the Autopilot was engaged already) he's also flicking switches on the overhead, not his area of responsibility. Also doing the takeoff performance while the CPT is taxing is simply wrong and can cause ground collision or even fatal takeoff accidents. There's no workload management, task delegation or compliance with procedures visible. Also he shouldn't have the Garmin aera GPS blocking his sight on the Autopilot Mode Annunciation Panel, only the FO is doing it correctly. The thrust lever angle split is more than the size of the handle, so it should have been brought to the attention of a mechanic earlier. Bush operation from the 70ies. I'm sorry to say, he might have been a good military pilot, but what he demonstrates in this short clip, it seems he's not the man for a multi pilot ops airliner cockpit, at least not in most parts of the world.

@@jordanfreshbaker6800 agree with you mostly except for the bush operation comment! Taxi checklist when half way approaching runway for take off....maybe they were behind schedule which shouldn't excuse such tardiness. CRM should be brought in.

Wow! My DC9-15 didn’t have that kit level and our Wx radar was a monochrome thing that was worse than useless. Glad they still have the mirrors on the centre combing, for those who haven’t had the pleasure of flying the 9 they are so that you can see the E2B compass which is buried in the roof behind the copilot, it’s reflection is seen in those mirrors via a light and another mirror so that it appears the right way round. Nice walk down memory lane.
