Hi Rob, Just a little tip for all. When I sew something that is elongated or on a boarder, I start at at the top and work my way down. This way I can see where I am going. If you start at the bottom and go upward, you tend to loose your direction. Great video, love all of you fun videos!

Very cool, I could see it as quilting for hair/wind/water as well.

I really like the skills and drills and free motion tutorials that you do. What I would like to know is if you can demonstrate your free motion quilting at the edges of the quilt. I would like to know your suggestions / how you do yours.

Rob, ... two things,.... first great tutorial on an easy FMQ design. I have been watching your quilting tutorials since the first one you did and you are a testament to... the more you practice the better you get. That quilt must almost be done. How fun it will be to have a visual representation of your learning to FMQ journey. Second,... any thoughts to changing up that music that plays while you quilt. ... just askin.

Haha! Thanks for the feedback, Philip! I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial! The "Man Sampler" still has a bit of space for some more FMQ, but I'll be sure to post a picture once it is "finished." As for the music, I'll take it under consideration! ;)

Hi!! I really love your videos!! Thank you so much!! I have a question about free motion quilting... I have tried and tried to FMQ but always end up with nesting on the back, I have tried adjusting my tension and have put in a magic bobbin genie, the only thing I haven't tried so far is a slippery surface thingie (sorry, can't think of what it is called) but, I can't see how this will help with nesting as I manage to move the fabric quite freely... Any suggestions?

Another great video!! Have you ever considered barbed wire or horse shoes?

Thanks Korie! I hadn't thought of those! Thanks for the suggestion!

love the videos, Rob, and especially this twist. What kind of foot are you using as it doesn't seem to 'hop' as it would if it was going with the needle's ups & downs?

Hi Rob! love the fact that you showed the design as a custom motif as well as how to tweak it as an all around. One unrelated question...I have freakishly big hand and those gloves u use don't fit me even in the xl size. are there other similar products that grip and move the quilt while you fmq?

Cut the fingertips off dishwashing rubber gloves and put those on your fingers.

Hi E O! You can use finger cots. I prefer the gloves because they are always on my hands, but there are also quilting discs that you can purchase here: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/6352/clever-craft-tools/-/grip-and-stitch I've used the quilting discs before, and they do help with maneuvering fabric! Have fun free motion quilting!

Michele B thanx for the tip. i tried it before but I must've had a bad set of gloves. I ended up giving the quilt a death grip just to maneuver it. Will try it again with a different brand.

Hi Rob! I've never FMQ but checking out videos. I noticed your freestanding thread holder. Do u have a tutorial on how that is done and any supplies needed for it? Ty! 🙋

Michele B So if my machine didn't come with it, can I FMQ without thread stand or does the thread flow easier with it? I'm not at that point yet but looking ahead. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it very much! 😃

Man Sewing 😆😆😆Hey Rob....you sent link to a "multi thread holder" ...I meant the single tall one next to machine holding the one that's being used while you were FMQ. Lol is that clearer I hope? 😂😂😂. Sorry....my fault I'm sure!

What brand of gloves are those? I desperately need a new pair. Also, can you post a link to the book you reference? Thanks!

They are Quilter's Touch Machingers gloves, Kathleen. If you click the link in the description of the video, you will be directed to a landing page with all the supplies needed for this tutorial, including the book and the gloves. Hello Dianne! Thank you for watching! I do not have a pattern for the "Man Sampler" at this time. It is a free style collection of some of my previous patterns. I hope you are having fun free motion quilting!
