Even more ridiculous her order that Smith responds to how the SCOTUS ruling about the CFPB affects Smith's appointment is more idiotic than a great deal of her crap. She will be removed at some point maybe this foolishness will prompt it. I can't understand how none of her superiors haven't stepped in yet.

Although Nixon's case pales to Trump's, and after those tapes were released and the visit paid by Goldwater and other Republican leaders of the time, Nixon knew he was guilty, would be impeached, and that was the reason he resigned. I was a Republican voter at the time, and believed that Nixon was guilty, but Ford's pardon let Nixon escape from accountability. That Pardon made me change my mind about republicans, and have never voter for another republican candidate ever since. IMHO in general republicans are not Law Abiding people, and even less, have the American Public in their minds.

I completely disagree with Todd. This is a great day for America. The legal system held against efforts by Trump to topple it. It shows that no one is above the law. Ty Cobb last night was saying he thought the defence had an excellent shot at getting an appeal, based on the vagueness of the charge to the jury. Now with 12 unanimous jurors on each of 34 charges, he thinks the appeal would not succeed. I don’t doubt that he was sincere both times. Perhaps he gives an honest opinion, but one that is also dramatically correct, so that he is invited back.

There is nothing inconsistent in his opinion about his belief that there are grounds for an appeal, which will be granted but then eventually fail when heard by the appellate courts.

At least Merchan's conduct will not be a problem on appeal, considering the lenience he granted Trump and his lawyers during the trial, e.g. letting about a dozen violations of a lawful and sensible gag order slip.

@@jimwheeler6094 I do not disagree that there are grounds for an appeal.( My impression of) Cobb’s position on Wednesday night was that he felt the appeal would likely succeed. He specifically mentioned the charge to the jury. The prosecution convinced Merchan that, so long as each juror thought a crime was furthered (the felony) the each time a financial document was falsified( a felony/misdemeanour), it did not matter if they unanimously agreed that it was the same crime of three possibilities. You can tell the legal niceties are beyond my ken.

There's no need to "imagine". While one might argue that some congresspeople and governors have all too often gotten away with bad behavior, let's not gloss over the fact that there are many, MANY examples of those elected officials being charged, found guilty, and serving jail time.

I agree so much. If the Republicans would have had a better nominee, all this would have passed much more under the radar. It would still be felon Trump, but no longer felon and presidential candidate Trump, which really complicates things. I'd love for Republicans to pick a better candidate next time, just so it can be shown this has nothing to do with politics, and only with Trump as a criminal.

For those of you that don't understand the OJ verdict and couldn't believe it, this is exactly what ALL the legal analysts were trying to explain to the public about that verdict. The jury got both verdicts right in compliance with the law. This is how the system works and it is flawed but a truly beautiful thing. We don't get to stomp our feet and throw ourselves on the floor until we get our way. It just DOESN'T work that way. Let's act like adults and accept that.
