Thanks for the positive comments. It’s been a months since I’ve been able to fly the weather has been harsh where I’m at. My 800mm T28 is one of my favorites.
Nice walk through! I've just installed mine on the FMS Futura using PPM. If you click the model image in the software it shows you the correct orientation and location.
As well The Reciever/ Gyro overlords are easing all of us out of Receiver/gyro/ Stablizers. Used to buy the Motion Rc Admirals 3 in 1 an Lemons 3 in 1 for $35.00. Now theres Sensor, telemetry, Combinations that are Pricey to get that 3 in one deal. Glad fms is includin this reflex 2 in price of planes. It helps my 64 yo Retired pocket book lol. Tks!
Just after the new year my wife and I moved into our new home and unfortunately It’s still not organized. It’s sad to say but I haven’t had an opportunity to fly anything but my sim. It’s been so long since I’ve flown the T28 I can’t answer your question. I can tell you that I had full use of the features the way it was configured in my video. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance.
Great video! Thank you! I just got my 1st PNP plane & it came with reflex installed. This will be my 1st time hooking up a receiver & you helped me big time ! My plane is the FMS P40B FLYING TIGER 1400MM. Question, do I need a transmitter with forward programming capability to set this up? I have an old DX6i
No forward programming is needed regarding the reflex v2 gyro. Just make sure the receiver you’re using has no gyro stabilization system active. You can use a receiver like theAR630 or AR637T as long as the as3x is NOT active OR just use a non gyro receiver like the AR620.
If the receiver is brand new, you do not need forward programming. If the receiver is brand new, you do need forward programming to set the receiver to factory reset.
This helped me a lot. I purchased the FMS Fox 3000 with Reflex and wired it per manual. Got throttle with elevator input and elevator with throttle. I reversed and it appears to be ok. My other issue, I wired up the sbus to channel 5 (AR620 receiver). Lights flash as they should. When in Optimized mode lights flashes fast. When I pick up the plane and tilt it, the gyro doe not correct the control surfaces. Any thoughts? Horizon is not responding and when they do they’re lost. I’m considering pulling the reflex control and wiring it directly to my receiver. Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated.
you may have to give some throttle to initiate it. Also, double check the switch & channel assignment on your transmitter. There’s also a firmware update page available & I did run that. Good luck with your sailplane!
your You Tube vid on Reflex has cleared up a lot of confusion with my Super EZ, but has mayed me annoyed that FMS could send out a plane with Reflex incorectly fitted and setup wireing instructions so wrong. Thanks for your You Tube I am now makeing progres in setting up Reflex1
Thanks for the positive comment. Unfortunately this year hasn’t allowed much time to enjoy my favorite hobby, hopefully this coming year will have a little less turmoil and I can post some video of my modifications in action.
I know it kicks the elevator up/down which is annoying to me but I believe that’s it. I’m sorry for the delayed response, my wife & I moved last December and it’s been a little hectic around here.
Thank s a lot for the explaining video. Until know I never use a gyro system ever, but know I get de FMS Mustang v8 for small money and want to trye the bird whit all it's inn was lite be shocked about the cable inside the plain. 2 function line goes in the back for Gear, 5 cable for eatch wing, and then comes the reflex system on top. Find no clear information how everything works together, but I will finde a way. Gear in the rear and in 2wings they need 2 seperated cancels for Open and close the weel protector for better aerodynamic. Light is allso possible to take over the spectrum resiver whit 12 cancels. Hopefully everything works tomorrow, but they have ready a lot of cables in this nice Bird. 🙏
About the best explanation/instruction i have seen on the reflex. My question is this. Are you hooking the esc lead to the output channel (throttle channel three) on the reflex and that in turn powers the main reciever? Ambiguous is too nice a description for the lame instructions, the the fms videos are just as lame. Ive thought about bypassing the throttle hook up on the reflex and just using it for the remaining channels but not sure if that would or wouldnt allow the reflex to work properly. Thanks for the video. Like to see you do a demonstration vid going the sbus route.
Yes, all the actual aircraft servo and esc leads go to the top connectors on the reflex as marked. I guess the only deviation from the instruction diagram is the plug orientation at the receiver, those must be per the receiver.
Where does the power get plugged into.....from the battery ?? Anyone ❓is he powering the Reflex or am I not seeing the power lead to the receiver.....❓
I bought a Reflex for my get this "Hobby King J3 Swiss Cub". FMS has their own version...of the Cub but same plane. If HK will ever send me the landing screws.
Can the Reflex Gyro be used with models other than FMS? I'm thinking, for example, that maybe you can use one programed for an FMS high wing trainer on another brand high wing trainer and get acceptable results. Thanks.
The reflex was included with other models but like the spektrum facsimile I imagine it must be tuned to each specific aircraft. I’m not aware of a way to make those in depth adjustments to the reflex, I may be mistaken.
So this was incredibly helpful HOWEVER, after do this my DX6E won't bind. I put in an AR637T receiver and in came with a plug for the volt port on the receiver with a red and black lead. Do I need that and, if so, where do the leads go. Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks for your positive words. I was providing hospice care to my mother when I made that video. The RC hobby has been a invaluable outlet for me. There’s no need for a binding plug on that receiver, just press the button with the Spektrum logo to put the receiver in bind mode. I’m so ready for spring!
The volt port wire ends would be soldered right to your battery leads for full battery voltage telemetry. You don’t need that to bind or fly though. Make sure your DX6e is updated with the latest firmware and it should bind like any other setup using either the bind button or bind plug.
Thanks for the video. I recently purchased this model and am interested in the setup (SBUS/PPM) where a single lead connects the Reflex box to the receiver at the SBUS/PPM input) Like you, I have the Spektrum AR620 receiver. I am motivated to use the single lead only because it reduces the amount of wires inside the compartment. Can you comment on how I would do this? Thanks very much.
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately I’m involved with selling my recently deceased mother’s estate. It’ll probably be a month or more before I’m back to a normal schedule. Maybe someone else reading the comments can answer your question. Thanks again.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to but the setup seems to perform fine. Please tell me what’s incorrect. I don’t want to knowingly put out bad information.
Why won't my reflex work? I followed your video and my plane worked perfectly including my reflex; 0 = safe solid plinking light. 1 = zero assist and 2 = AS3x. Now reflex doesn't work at all. Any suggestions?
No having it in front of me I can only guess, it sounds like you’ve switched it off. If you assigned a control switch on your transmitter you’re in one of the three configurations. My wife and I just moved and all of our belongings are packed away. At my first opportunity I’ll take a look at my trojan & re acquaint myself. In the meantime try programming from scratch to see if you can reassign a control switch. Good luck.
Unfortunately I’ve had to neglect my hobbies to care for my mother 8 days to reply is not my goal. My experience is to position the aircraft in level flight attitude to initiate the Gyro.
This setup works great for a 4 channel plane that doesn't have flaps or retracts. But if you had flaps and retracts the AR620 only has one open port - port 5 in the video. I wonder what the options are for using Reflex in a 6 channel aircraft? You would need at least 7 ports on the receiver to make it work with Reflex. Looking at the Spektrum receiver list the cheapest receiver to support 6 channels(7 ports) is the AR8020T with actually 9 ports(Bind/Prog) but it is $90. In this case it is cheaper to get the AR630 which supports a 6 channel aircraft plus it has the extra Bind/Prog port to switch the gyro/self leveling and it is $80. So for aircraft with 6 channels it is cheaper to remove Reflex and just install AR630 which provides the same capabilities. Anybody see a better option for 6 channel aircraft?
I have to agree with you, the reflex isn’t nearly as capable as a AS3X system. On another note, I’ve been unable to fly or do much of anything I’d consider fun due to a serious illness earlier this summer and now moving my family to the Washington coast. Hopefully soon things will be back to normal.
Yes you got it right l have the fms f7f tiger cat with the reflex v2 and hook it up to a Spectrum AR620 so that left the gear and Flaps channel so l got a Y harness and connects to the 5 channel which is the gear channel on the AR620 take the Sbus wire on the reflex and connect to 6-channel on the Spectrum receiver now l have the Flaps and Landing gear working at the same time if you don't want to do it that way get a Spectrum AR630 or AR631 AR637TA with AS3X/Safe 6-channel a whole lot easier way to hooked up.
Absolutely! Up until a few years ago nobody had gyros in their airplanes. most of my older parkzone foamies are just motor esc and receiver with no gyro. I feel like I lucked out with my little Trojan, it seems like a lot of folks have encountered issues with the reflex gyro. I have to be honest & open about the fact I prefer Spektrum electronics. It what I learned on and have the most of.
I`m kinda affraid to buy anything with a gyro now.... i had a FMS PITTS and when i got it up in the air the control surfaceses was fighting me and throwing the plane around when i tried to control it. i don`t understand why they make setup with gyro so hard to understand.... has anyone else had something like this happen? i love the FMS models because of their scale like looks... but the gyro thing gets me stressed
I apologize for the delayed response but I’ve been in the hospital with a severe illness. I don’t think the customer to support for the Reflex Gyro is very good I know the website for updates is really hit and miss. Fortunately mine matched up good with the little T-28 Trojan. I’ve got several messages from people that just can’t seem to get it to work properly and haven’t received any support. Unfortunately it’s gonna be a while before I have the strength to get back to my hobbies.
I have a j3 cub by fms and I’m new to 4ch planes so I got the gyro and it’s not working well it does but as soon as I bank either way to turn it like locks and I will try to bank the other way it just won’t till it crashes so the only thing is I did not hock up throttle cable to it and for my plane it has to be put in upside down can you help me fix the problem? I crashed this thing 6 times and had to fix it lots
Did you assign a switch to control the mode? There’s novice mode that restricts your movement then intermediate mode that only makes small corrections and off so the gyro isn’t doing anything. Did you check that it’s reacting properly? The control surface should move the same way you tip the airplane when holding it in your hands. The only other thing is did you reverse any servos? There’s also a very crude firmware update site you can try. I’ve had limited success with the latter. To be totally honest I prefer the Spektrum AS3X system because I have total control of the setup. I can tune it for virtually any aircraft and adjust the gain while I’m flying. Also check for faulty or glitching servos and or servo leads.
@@jatoav8or I mean I did everything like it all works but it’s only on the bank it locks I flew ok before I put gyro just I could not handle it it was all over the place since I never had a 4ch so I crashed to not hit a tree then I looked up gyro and got it for this plane then it went up just fine start to bank there was no coming back I was up high to so I done everything you got in the video I never had a cable in the throttle port I just by pass it and I put that in so can that cause it not to work properly?
I have the page bookmarked on my laptop but unfortunately My laptop is a couple hours away, I’m currently moving my family. But if I remember correctly a fms reflex V2 firmware update search will get you going in the right direction. I’m pretty sure but I think I had to use my windows computer. Sorry I didn’t have that link handy.
