I have a FN 509 it’s never done me wrong. Never jammed ,always held its weight . Love the 2 24 round mag that come with it. I Can’t say anything bad about Canik.
So there are a few things he didnt mention on this for the Canik. The Salient barrel on the Canik is a fluted match grade barrel, the slide is nitride coated underneath the cerakote, so there is double protection there. The next is that the internals on the Canik like the striker block, trigger bar and a few others are nickle boron coated which will make them nice and slick. As far as things go, I use this as a carry gun, with a RMR HRS, and i train to use my window without the dot if it ever were to fail. ive carried custom glock 17/19s, smith and wesson shield, walther pps and others, this is by far one of the best guns especially for the money. the 509 really doesn't add up.
Completely agree on your decision. I have seen these elite combats going for $650.00 street price. You are getting a damn nice pistol for that price point, accurate, nice trigger, sights, magwell. This was a no brainer for me for the price tag alone. Good review
Just picked one up used for $500 everything in original box included with a vortex viper red dot sight. I just robbed my local gun store essentially 🤣. Cant wait to range test this badass fucker
I own almost every Canik out just a couple that I don’t have. One of the best shooting pistols out there. The Canik executive is my EDC and I switched to the Canik from the Glock 45 9mm. Can’t say enough about Canik. Too notch equipment in my opinion.
Just got my Elite Combat Executive. Using the AlienGear shapeshift IWB holster for it in appendix carry position. Any particular holsters or compensators you have tested?
@@ericchatman7220 - You could always buy 18 round mags for the elite sc (in stock at grab a gun, made by century arms) along with mag sleeves for them from bloody wheels. That's what I did.
I have a Canik and it has never had a malfunction, with low powered ammo or carry ammo it doesn't matter it fires it all. I have no complaint with these guns
@@dougsmith2658 What do you base that off of ? I have never heard of anyone having problems with a Canik even with thousands of rounds through them. Why in every comment section does there have to be at least one dick like you?
I have just bought the canik sfx. I would have to say for what I spent on it. It is by far one of the best guns out there Evan at full price. No need to improve. Smooth shooting great trigger.
This video was for me. I can only have one. I chose the CANIK. Price had nothing to do with it. I do plan on carrying the canik during the winter months. Right now I carry SIG 365. Thank you for the video.
I have the Tp9sa . . mod 2. I've spent serious time with it. I just can't get over the fact that one can buy a pistol this good for the price. I haven't met anyone who has spent time with the Caniks and failed to not be impressed. When someone asks me my opinion . . I tell them . . " buy it"! It's a "no brainer"!
Should of just sootched it and said love em both cant go wrong .. great companies... no winners or losers here... just keep the free products and sponsors coming... long live the republic
The Canik TP9sf Elite Combat Executive is a black on black version of the Elite Combat that comes with TiN coated, gold colored barrel that’s threaded 1/2x28 from Salient Arms International.
The Canik has an AMAZING trigger right out of the box. As soon as I felt one, it made me cry almost. I work hard to create something close to this on a Glock and I was loving the Canik right out of the box. For me....the TP9 is my style. The 509 is just boring in comparison.
I have a TP9SA that is just a tack driver and if I didn't have so many other projects and amazing guns, the Canik/Salient would be top of my list. Out of the box it is worthy of the price tag.
Watched many of your comparisons and reviews. By far the most educated, well laid out, and quality table top reviews on RU-vid. Between you and nutnfancy, I can stay occupied for hours! I have the tp9sfx and absolutely love it. Although I love my glocks, my canik beats my glock 34 gen 5 all day long out of the box. Awesome video as usual.
I will jump in as the owner of the FN 509 Compact MRD pistol. It’s an extremely accurate pistol, but be prepared to replace the striker pin with the Apex striker pin, as mine broke after 100 rounds. It’s also recommended that you don’t dry fire the pistol. The trigger is nothing to get excited about, but if you want to replace it, you will need a special harness as the trigger pin is not meant to be pulled out. I have also been waiting for months for the shim to be in stock for the Trijicon plate. Salient arms picked a winner with the Canik pistol.
@@chltmdwp If it’s new 509CC then they installed a new trigger, if it’s the one with brake in the shoe then you may have the old style one. I ended up with a 20 dollar spring upgrade from MCarbo.
@@domsugar9160 If you've ever owned a Canik you'd understand. I have the TP9SF Elite, stock, and put it up against my friends 509 with the Apex trigger and match grade barrel.... still superior shooting experience with my Canik, superior accuracy too, and the trigger still felt better to me. Plus the Canik comes stock with NATO match grade barrel.
@@tonydo9291 you're right Tony I don't own one and maybe that's why I don't understand I'm not saying it's not a good pistol but I just honestly don't believe it's better than the FN Tactical and by me saying that that pistol is just an upgrade from a Hi-Point maybe that was a little out of hand but I just don't think it's in the same category much less better maybe you could put that pistol in the category as in a Masada better then taurus but not a f&n h&k glock cz or springfield shoot not even a ruger or beretta all these Brands been around for a very long time and they all proven to be good quality give the canik 10 more years and if its still good as u all say it is then it has earned the right to be in those categories but right now it's too early to even be in the category must less you say it's better.
Dom sugar looks like you’re the one smoking crack my man. Just because it isn’t a big name it isn’t better? What kind of foolish logic is that? Thats the point of this gun it can compete with any of the top companies gun a $600-$800 gun that sits with the $1200+ guns. Swallow your pride dude. I own Sig, Glock, and S&W btw. You’re ranking this as if you were 12 years old.
@@domsugar9160 canik has been around much longer than you think, and the quality is right there with all the brands you mentioned and has a better trigger than most of them
Haven’t shot the elite combat, but I have shot the Canik TP9 and FN 509 Tactical and the trigger on just the base TP9 is worlds better than the 509, Canik produces some high quality firearms at a fraction of the cost of other manufacturers. Great video KS!
because its made in Turkey, in Turkeywe have lower employee costs and quality materials are much cheaper than EU or USA so they can lower their price point. Also they are trying to make a name and cutting the price. Buy it while its cheap, it will get higher soon once they make their name heard
I own this Canik and I absolutely love it!! I also own a Canik tp9 sf elite wth Odgreen slide which is my edc gun. Ive tried and owned all the big names but i always came back to my Caniks... imo Canik hands down!!!
The Canik sells almost everywhere for $650. Knowing how responsive Canik is to customers within two years that optics cut will be adjusted so you do not lose your rear site. EDIT: I was correct they fixed the optics cut to keep rear sight on their latest pistol.
I went with the Canik. I don’t regret getting it and am very pleased with it. I’m sure the 509 is a great pistol too and I understand why there is a price difference. My Elite Combat is a great pistol and your video helped me decide on which one to buy.
Great comparison. I just added a Canik TP9 elite tactical to my collection to replace my previous ccw. So far I love it. It came with a Vortex viper and between that and the Salient barrel you basically get the rest of the gun for nearly free. Mine came 1/2x28 out of the box so I wanted to point out that Canik offers 2 thread pitch options, 1 being the metric 13mm x (I can't remember) and the SAE 1/2 x 28. Just throwing that out there.
The Canik is a fantastic shooter. I don't have an FN, nor have I ever shot one, but the trigger and sights for the Canik will change the mind of anyone who shoots it. It amazes me that other companies haven't taken the trigger quality as seriously as Canik. Walther has a great trigger as well, but none of the others in the striker fire market have done so. Until the others get on board, I'll be hard pressed to buy anything else. I have three full sized Caniks, but the Elite Combat is on my Christmas list. I can't wait to get my hands on it and throw some lead down range.
Picked up the Combat Executive today. Has standard threads. But I love the Canik. Picked it over a VP9. Only company that I know of that can compete with Canik as far as trigger is Walther.
That combat executive is just a beautiful gun the amazing trigger just makes it that much sweeter plus they changed the thread pitch to the more common (in the U.S.) 1/2x28.
You did a great thing picking it over the vp9,I shot a tp9sf elite compact along side my vp9sk and the canik was better by alot Shot way way better. Not necessarily accuracy but recoil and staying on target was way softer and better with the canik. Both shot perfect with o malfunctions. I ended up trading the Vp9sk for a cz p10 c.
Just got the canik elite combat executive model yesterday. About to go shoot right now. Just FYI newer elite combat models only come with the #1 red dot base plate now not 4 base plates. They are for sale separately though. And they are threaded 1/2×28 now also.
That trigger alone on Canik blows that FN out of the water. Even with trigger upgrade 509 still has a long reset travel vs Canik's stock trigger. Much like most FN's other products 509 is overpriced at least by $200 in my opinion.
The prices are the same on both pistols Except you can get the FN for that price with a basic optic on it from Cabela’s/bass pro Not only that the Canik has about a mile of spongey take up on its “awesome trigger”
@@tedpendagast579 I respectfully disagree. Price of FN 509 is around $900. At least that’s what I’ve been seeing. On the other hand, I got my Canik TP9SF Combat Elite for below $700. So that’s at least $200 difference give or take. But that’s not even the real difference maker. The real difference is industry leading among (striker fire pistols) Canik’s legendary trigger. No way FN’s stock trigger can do better than Canik. And I’m not the only one who says this. Pretty everyone who has any experience with Caniks can confirm this.
@@SOBIsHobbies just about everyone raving about the trigger are one of ten million New gun owners Prices right now 999 at Cabela’s for a 509 tactical with sight And $900 for a combat elite without a sight Not last year Not a few months ago when you bought your gun Right now
@@tedpendagast579 so that means it’s a testament to Canik’s continuous success since their prices are gradually going up. I remember these Caniks could’ve been gotten for around $600 not in too distant past. Meanwhile 509 has always been selling around $1000 since its inception or maybe even more. Out of most FN owners I know how much overpriced FN products are. I own several of their higher end products (SCAR 16S, 17S, 20S and FNX 45 Tactical). I own them because well… because I can. But that doesn’t go without saying that in average their products are overpriced by 20%. Not saying they’re unreliable or unworthy, not at all (otherwise I wouldn’t have owned them myself). However, I wouldn’t refrain myself from saying that they’re absolutely overpriced by at least 20%. With all that said if it was my OWN money and if I could buy only one I would go with Canik everyday and twice on Sundays. And I always recommend Canik to everyone who wants to get best bang for their hard earned bucks.
I just bought a Canik Elite Combat and I was pretty happy with the purchase, but after watching review video, after review video it's been all positive, I'm really excited and can't wait to get it to the range.
I just got a new Canik TP9 SF Elite and I can't say enough about my trigger. I love it. It's just as light as my Single Action Army was before I sold it and I truly appreciate that about it.
I had just bought the 509, before watching this video. I agree about the trigger, I'll be changing mine out, (I'm on hold & don't have it in hand yet) but the trigger was something I noticed while examining for purchase (not the worst trigger, but can be better)...Other than that, through Bass Pro, the one I've purchased, comes with a Vortex Venom Red Dot ($225), already mounted & for $999....& yes, with the red dot attached, You can use the iron sites... The 509 is a big gun that feels really good in the hand, not really a CCW for someone my size ...the Canik has to be a Hog Leg of a gun, it's definitely bigger all the way around... FN 509 is produced right here in the good ole USA...No knock on Canik, but I'm a Homer, not a Turk supporter... I can live with my purchase, even though I could've save a couple hundred buckaroos. The video would have influenced me none, although it did open my eyes to another great product & the fierce fight for excellence when it comes to great quality firearms.
Love the detail of the video, though I’m not sure that choosing the Canik “as a range toy” really abides by what I would expect of the “if I could only have one” philosophy - if I can only have one, it will answer multiple roles
The concept isn't "if I could only have one gun". It's "if I could only choose one of the two being reviewed"; not that I can't have additional guns, I just don't get to have both the FN and the Canik. It's just a made up game for fun :)
So are you saying I should pick up the apex for my 509ct? I already got the apex striker because I heard of the breaking issue but I was holding off on the trigger. I'm planning on rotating it in with my Glock 19 once it proves itself. People say glock trigger sucks but I have my 19 worn in just right that 509 was hot garbage. Striker cleaned it up a little bit I'm on the fence about the whole kit. I've never really been big on changing internals but I'm also a recovering Glock addict what are your thoughts? Is it worth it for CCW\ small critter control on the farm? Groundhogs are KOS around here!
Good fair review of the two. I'm one of the suggesters for the topic. I have a TPS SFX and my trigger was a bit gritty. I polished everything and now it is better than my Walther PPQ Q4 trigger. I would have to go with the Canik.
At the opening of your video the way you said ehhh about the canik made me think you was going with the 509... glad you made the right chose 😂😂 love my canik
I am very pleased with my FN 509T with a Trijicon RMR and an Inforce light. Runs great, easy to shoot, and it carries very well in my IWB rig by ProTEQ Custom gear. Not knocking Canik, but the FN suits me well, with the factory trigger. For me, the 24 round mags were a great selling point. I removed the sleeve from one so I could more easily carry it with a NeoMag. To me, with all the nonsense that's been happening, capacity is a significant consideration.
LOL, loved the beginning intro! MMM I think the features of the 509 for only $200 more seals the deal. Suppressor height night sights, Co-witness ability and magazines doe it for me.
My buddy got the same deal and shortly thereafter I was looking for fn tact at LGS I had the FN in my hand ready to buy when LGS owner says “have you held the canik?” And the rest is history got my tp9 EC for 659.99 and can’t wait to show my buddy this video!
I just brought the tp9da home last Monday and already put 1k rounds through it. All different types of ammo from cheap steel and aluminum to the higher prices bras and hollow points not a single issue so far. Only problem with it is the horrible grip. I hate plastic stippling so I had to put rubber grip tape on those areas. Made it so much better
I have an FN 509T and my friend has multiple Caniks, to me what stands out the most between them is that Caniks have among the absolute best striker fired triggers on the market (like unbelievably good) while the FN 509 has literally the worst trigger I've ever used. I can be almost as accurate with the 509T as I am with the Caniks, but oh man it's way harder.
Just picked up the Canik TP9 elite combat. New ($699 Mar 22’) and love it. Had to have it just because of the trigger, and mag release. Out the box feels as good as a loaded aftermarket competition gun.
Love your videos. I’ve been shooting for a lot of years, especially from the time I was in the military. But really have only built up a good collection of guns over the last 5 years. It’s struck me that we live in a time where there are just *so many* good firearms. It’s amazing. Thanks for your videos- very much enjoy them. One wish - would like to see more comparisons between CZ and Sig pistols. Both awesome lines. Anyway thanks and happy 2019!
I completely agree that there are a lot of great guns out there! Makes it tough to decide sometimes, lol. As for CZs vs Sigs, we shall see what 2019 has in store. Thank you and cheers Eric!
For a range gun many the Canik. I own one of each. For every day carry it's no brainier for me 509m just not really ready to trust my life with my caniks yet. fan has been a proven manufacturer for years serving military and law enforcement for years
that's a cool mistake between these two from " the proven" point. Investigate Nato compliance norms and who prooves it then let us talk again. Also, it is not a self proven sidearm that the 2nd biggest army of Nato uses it. Range gun LOL. Also you own them. Comeooon
I use the Canik for competition and I couldn't be happier with it. Trigger is fantastic! FN 509 is also a good pistol but when I go to the range I grab my Canik and it makes me look good!
For me it would be the Canuck in every situation! I can’t see paying $250 more for the FN then having to purchase a new trigger just to get the performance close to the Canuck. Buying a third Canuck mag is a lot cheaper to even the mag count. While FN’s are nice weapons overall they are just too pricey for what they are. The Canuck just smokes all the sub $1,000 pistols and I’m getting my Combat Executive next week !
Canik elite combat Golden barrel is 1000 dollars in Pakistan. Russian viking baikal MP 446 is also in same price range. Which one should I buy? I will take ur word for it. Thanx & regards sir.
Great comparison. I’ve heard the 509 trigger is a disappointment from two other good sources. Thanks for the honest review. I have a TP9SFX and a PPQ long-slide. It’s hard to have a favorite between the two. Canik has really produced some great and affordable guns that match up to guns in much higher price ranges. Good day.
I just bought the canik sfx rival trophy for right at 680 with tax and the amount of extras it comes with is insane ordered a Wasatch compensator for it also beyond excited to take it to the range
I actually just picked a 509T up last night but they changed things up and no longer comes with a third magazine nor does it come with the 21 lb spring if you wanted to run a suppressor. So now it just comes with the 17 and 24 round magazine and the two back straps which isn't a deal-breaker but having extra mags always is a plus
Everyone almost is aware of that but few outside Germany say Deutschland, everyone says Germany, millions of examples all over the world like that. Canik does not care if people pronounce it differently as long as they buy their guns and promote them.
If I could have only 1... Personally, I would go 509... Both are very nice and pretty comparable, aesthetics are also important and the FN just looks better to me.
I have large hands and the Canik doesnt fit naturally for me. I like the looks of the Canik but the adaptability of the 509 with the more natural grip is why I bought the 509 for my first gun.
you cant use it in the way it was made for. Almost no one has a left hand twist on their suppressors, if you put a red dot on it you lose your backup sight, If you don't put a red dot on it you cant see over your suppressor to know what your shooting and 1 extended mag.. what is that? after buying the suppressor adapter changing the sights and buying an extra extended range mag your looking at more then what you can get a 509 for.
I wish I could have seen the out of the box trigger on the 509. I know you have heard this many times before, but any review of a gun should really be done with Its stock trigger. But in general, I love your “ if I could only have one” reviews.
Super video for two super handgun :) thanks a lot @KSGunGuy, I was waiting for this comparison so hard. I have TP9 SFx and TP9 Elite Combat, I love them, but I also fell in love with 509, another super gun which is full of full with features. Thank you again for the satisfying review. But please feel free if you want to make another review for their internal, mechanical comparison :)
