The FNC is one of the best 5.56 mm rifles ever made and designed. I love its simple mechanism, and sheet metal receivers - even more than AR-15 rifles.

I have use it in the army and it’s a really reliable rifle . I never had any issue with it , low maintenance and great precision. A weapon that never had the credit it deserves.

In Indonesia, we called it "SS1"

Great rifle, not quite an FAL (especially as the FNC only has a 3-point adjustable gas block/ valve setup) but they're fun when they run well. The handguard always reminds me of a CETME or a "Hebrew Hammer" a little bit too.

With the bolt to the rear, pull the charging handle out to the right, it should catch in a notch and hold the bolt open

To hold the bolt open you pull the charging handle back and 'out'. There is a detent in the receiver where the charging handle can remain blocked.

Malfunction is almost allways induced by magazines, the original ones (Manca uses one) got a strong spring tailored for the specific function of the rifle. Nice to see a military one for a change :)

Glad you mentioned HEAT. ;) AK5 variant looking slightly cooler than the original FNC. Glad somebody mentioned it in the comments. I immediately noticed different dust cover and extended trigger guard. Conveniently since I recently watched video on FNC from Forgotten Weapons, I thought that this is not exactly original FNC even if it's just a variant.

all of the hickups were most likely magazine related seeing as the FNC has no bolt hold open and its magazines never had the BHO tab on the followers.

I'm a year late, but most FNC feeding issues are magazine related. They can be super picky with the GI pattern stuff. Mine will take P-Mags without a hiccup, but aluminum and steel GI's cause constant failures.

When I listen to the gunfire from FN FNC, there is a synphony in my ears.

Pretty cool rifle. I remember watching the TFB TV episode on the rifles of Heat, and I think James Reeeves said that wasn’t the best rifle they could have used… was kind of finicky, but super cool and definitely has the 90’s swat feeling to it

I used the AK5C with a Aimpoint RDS during my military service, wich is a further development of the FNC 80. I would say it gets the job done and its accurate, but my rifle had alot of misfires during winter :/ The AK5 have a empty magazine bolt catch with the plastic mags aswell.

The FAL has the bolt handle in the left side. I dont understand why in the FNC they put It in the wrong side

I love the fnc but finger quoting assault rifle is disingenuous. US army definition is 1) fires intermediate cartridge with 300m effective range 2) select fire capabilities 3) a large capacity detachable box magazine. It is quite literally by definition an assault rifle. I have nothing against this and wish I could legally own one, I live in Canada where they often call semi auto rifles assault weapons incorrectly so its critical to be clear when defining an ar15 for example, not an assault rifle to a select fire fnc. Fncs can be semi auto, that's true but there are more auto sears available for Fncs then most other rifles in the US, Ian from forgotten weapons discussed the reason for this on his channel last week I believe.

Fyi, the FNC can have its bold hold opened, but has to be done manually, pulling it backward and somehow jerking the handle by pulling sideway. No real utility though, other than being an help while clearing heavy malfunctions like failure to feed, or to be a pretext to give a slap to a conscript who forgot to send the bolt carrier forward.
