The differences in the bandwidth limits of the two channels can be easily tested by simply switching the probes to the opposite channels. If the high bandwidth channel moves with the probe, it means the scope is fine and the probes were not properly compensated. I compensate at a high frequency squarewave because I have one available, and it makes a huge difference in the performance at the high end of the channel's bandwidth. Also keep in mind that if your sample to sine wave conversion requires 5 samples, your scopes conversion routine may very well be running out of time to take that many samples when you get to around 100 Mhz, and will start aliasing.........

You do realise that to measure to 100 MHz the probe capacitance will act as a low pass filter and your measurement becomes inaccurate, you should be using 100:1 or better still 1000:1 probe to minimise the probe reactance.

Hi! Good to know. At the moment I don't have 1000:1 probe, I'll try to get one for future tests. Thanks for sharing and watching!

This unit it seems to me would have been better received if they called it a 75mhz scope. With a 7” touch screen and simple user interface for around $120 shipped to your door I still think it would be a value. Anyway, if I could bother you with a question. I do some tinkering with electronics, for which I think anything the 100mhz bandwidth that’s easy to use would meet my needs. But, I also do some mechanical stuff. The fastest thing there I’d look at would be can bus, but it would need to capture a long time frame at low frequencies. Say being able to capture 2 engine revolutions worth of cam and crank hall/inductive signals. A person would want to see the individual pulses for at least 2 revolutions to determine the relationship between the two, though panning the screen over would be ok. I’m not really up on scope memory to tell from the specs what models might capture that much data. So basically a budget tablet, 2 or 4 channels, 100 or better MHz, and a bit of memory/time capture. Anything like that exist? Perhaps I’d be better off with 2 devices, like a USB Pico or Hantek for automotive, and a handheld for portable fiddling with power supplies and what not…

There is a alternative firmware development in the eevblog forum Topic: FNIRSI-1013D "100MHz" tablet oscilloscope. The maker also added a RTC modul and improved adc stability over battery voltage.

Yes. The 1014D is about same price but if you go review your old video it didn’t perform as well. Both lie about the specs but this one is a little newer and I am guessing the processor is better in the tablet version.

HI Jerome, yes my unit did have multiple issues. It was the first giveaway of the channel, so I can't retest it now, I would like to give a second run on it, this oscilloscope was released previously than the 1104D and had some bad reviews, that I was expecting even a worst experience. I'm glad was not the case. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for your great reviews!. I am just a hobbyist that like to try to repair broken stuff before I throw it in the garbage, I have manage to salvage a lot of electronics just with a voltmeter. I feel my next step is to get an oscilloscope and the prices are quite affordable now. I have looked at DSO1013D, the DSO3D12 and the Zoyi ZT702S . I do like the large display of the DSO1013D, but the buttons and functionality of the DSA3D12. the price point and portability of the Zoyi is great too. what would be your top pick for a small workstation?. thanks!.
@TechCornerTV
@TechCornerTV 6 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks so much for you nice comment, really appreciate. This is a hard question, because you're more or less in the same price range, but comparing devices with different specs and mainly screens/sizes. If you worked with a multimeter and were fine with it, any oscilloscope will be a huge improvement. The Zoyi is a very nice piece of equipment and it is also DSO3D12 for portable oscilliscopes/multimeters and you even have now the FNIRSI 2D23T that I just made a review. For large screens, you can go with the DSO1013D or even with DSO1014D for entry level oscilloscopes. Also your budget is very important in here, so if you're pointing to a budget of $60 to $150, my choices will be for oscilloscope only DPOX180H, DSO2512G small factor, 1014D 7" screen, or 2D23T, 3D12 or ZT702S for multimeter/oscilloscope. Thanks for watching.

It would have been interesting to see a square wave signal in the range up to 100 MHz. I don't know why you only tested the sine function, because every oscilloscope can actually represent sine quite well. Only with square-wave signals do the weaknesses of a device reveal themselves.
@ivolol
@ivolol 6 месяцев назад
sine wave is the purest wave. Often a function generator's highest bandwidth waveform is also only a sine wave. A good square wave is much much harder because of all the higher frequency harmonics needed to implement it. For any oscilloscope, it should generally not be able to render a square wave properly near its bandwidth limit because there aren't enough sample points for it to knowingly reconstruct a square wave on the screen. That said, many manufacturers over or under specify their bandwidth's for given scopes, to different amounts. Given that, testing a sinewave is the purest absolute test, because a sine wave is the last waveform that any oscilloscope can possibly display before it can't measure the signal. So a -3dB point always provides an objective point of comparison across all scopes for where their absolute bandwidth limit lies.
@EDVDompteur
@EDVDompteur 6 месяцев назад
In digital technology, you have to deal with square wave signals, never with sine waves. It is uninteresting what high frequencies an oscilloscope can still display with sinusoidal voltage if it fails miserably with square wave signals. That is why a test should always be carried out with square wave signals. It is then clear anyway that it goes a good deal further with sine waves.
@TechCornerTV
@TechCornerTV 6 месяцев назад
Hello, my function generator is not able to output a 100Mhz square wave, it is pretty hard to have a good square wave at 100Mhz... But I will try to show more times the other waveform types, normally I just forget. I gotta get a todo list for the reviews. Thanks for watching!
@EDVDompteur
@EDVDompteur 6 месяцев назад
@@TechCornerTV There is no need to test waveforms other than rectangular. If the steep edges are OK, then the flatter signal rises will be OK anyway. That is also the reason why you always calibrate an oscilloscope with a square wave signal.

I really disliked the cheap plastic fold-out stand. I was always getting glare from the scope angled towards the ceiling. I decided to modify my fold-out stand with a couple of small O-rings. I put the O-rings over the plastic hinge pins of the fold-out stand. This sort of worked, but when I installed a small piece of 4mm plastic on the other side of the stand, it wedged the hinge O-ring tighter and provided the friction that I was looking for. The change is like night and day. I used to have a flimsy stand and now I have a stand that stays in place where ever I position it. No more glare in my eyes.

Hi George, sorry the late reply, trying to keep up with the comments, not easy. I agree with the points your brought out. This was one of the first oscilloscopes from FNIRSI and it shows. I think today, they're sending to the market items with much more quality. Thanks for watching.

It's a pity this is before they learned to give a proper bandwidth number. If it's advertised as 75Mhz scope, no-one can complain, or even be impressed. Would love to see you test the sampling rate as well, if it's possible.

Hi, if you think about it, there is very little things that are not chinese nowadays, even high end products. So, these no so established brands are learning fast and FNIRSI evolved a lot in this last 2 years. They are releasing products very near to the accounced specifications, and that is an improvement 😁 thanks for watching

I see they still haven't added input signal inversion, sigh. I wish they would just tell the truth about bandwidth and sample rate, its probably closer to 100M samples per second, not 1G. Aside from this, its not really terrible, especially compared with some Hantek offerings.

What you see is what I got using the system I have to test things... but I agree with you, my first expectations were worst, after working with it, it as kind of nice surprise. Its not perfect, but I saw worst already. Thanks for watching.

Hi, I didn't used the previous one, but for what I understand they said that the real bw of the model when was released was about 30Mhz... so that's what I was expecting to see... it handled a bit better than I inicially previewed, so I think the ADC were also updated. Thanks for watching.

@@TechCornerTV I wonder if they really did improve the analog section or instead did some software tricks to make it look like a better bandwidth. Is the reading the same in different timebase settings? You could also check the rise time, that is another indication of bandwidth. Do they still blank out every signal that is below 30mVpp? They did in the beginning and showed a straight line instead, which makes it fairly useless for measuring some audio signals. As for the different readings in the two channels: recently I fooled myself into this by using one probe that was not properly compensated for my scope, which resulted in increased readings with higher frequencies. Could that be the problem in this case?

Hi, this is a personal opinion, but I like more the devices without all those functions, ,I prefer when they concentrate in being good on one thing thing instead of more or less doing everything, That said, I do see advantages to have a multi function tool if you're on the field, instead of carring a lot of devices. So I get your comment. Thanks for watching.
