Keep in mind that the HK USP .45 is 21 years old and we are comparing it with a gun from late 2012-early 2013. FN has had 17 years to improve on the HK USP's design and has failed to do so in many respects. Trigger design on the FN is inferior, build quality is cheaper and the finish is inferior. No one should EVER have to take a slipstone to a $1,000 pistol slide to address unfinished, extremely sharp edges and potentially ruining the finish and causing the potential for rust spots. As for capacity, FN is 17 years newer, of course its going to have a better standard capacity. But that's not a problem for the USP though when there are 20 +1 mags available. HK design came out before the picatinny rails were standard. The replaceable slide rails are a new feature. There was no such thing as replaceable back straps for any pistol when the HK USP was designed. Overall, I'm an HK guy. I had both pistols, but sold the FN to get another HK USP .45. lol

I also had both pistols, the HK USP is a higher quality pistol but the FN is not far behind, to me the USP feels better in the hand then the FN, both are very large pistols but the FN has a hollow feeling to it and rub my middle finger raw when shooting it. if you cant own both pistols, I would go with the HK.

They cut that many corners to increase their profit margin then it doesn't matter, my guess is they cut other things that aren't obvious. On top of that, this is a pistol review and he said the FN didn't cycle with the suppressor. I have an FN and a suppressor and that is only true if you are shoot light load ammo, like a hollow point. Jeez, this guy must be on HK's payroll.

15 round capacity, factory night sights, and red dot ready are some pretty significant features. All the reviews I've read state the Fnx is also very accurate and reliable. I know the HK Usp tactical has close to a legendary reputation though. I wonder how reliable the Fnx is if wet, sandy, very cold etc compared to the HK.

Red dot meh its cool but you can get one on a usp if you really wanted it. The usp has night sights on the le model and the hk has 13 rounds which isnt a slouch they also have 18 and 20 round mags you can buy making the fnx obsolete

Had the pleasure of shooting both of these guns last week side by side and I can honestly say that both are good guns but the H&K USP 45 Tactical was more soft shooting and controllable. The H&K frame felt more solid in my opinion as well. It was my first time shooting a 45acp so I'm not praising or bashing either brand, just stating my experience.

My logic on the 12 rounds vs. 15... A lot of people say it's better to have the extra 3 rounds. However, if you are in a situation where you can't get it done with 12, you probably won't get it done with 15 either.

FirearmTutorials .com these pistols for most people are not conceal carry pistols. With that being said if there to be used it could very likely be done in a situation where multiple mags are used and emptied. The more magazines you have the larger the capacity gap is. More is more period. With that being said for most people like myself we don’t carry guns like this and we will hopefully never be in that situation

Everyone always defaults to the "firepower" argument when comparing weapons. The USP45 mags will easily hold 13-14 rounds; however, for the sake of reliable performance, HK officially markets the mag capacity as 12 to prevent unnecessary wear on the mag springs. FN has had all kinds of performance issues with their line of pistols emanating largely from feeding problems. Also, if you want to see firearms engineering at its finest, take a hard look at the USP's recoil spring assembly compared to other polymer pistols. It's in a class of its own. There's a reason the USP has been in service (i.e., military) for as long as it has. Very few weapon designs have earned a legacy like the HK USP line of pistols. You have to hold and shoot one to understand.

I've had them both, and currently still have the FNX. I shoot the FNX better than I ever did with the USP45T, but there are a few things that I've noticed between the two that makes me trust the HK more. The stupid amount of flex in the FNX frame. Maybe it contributes to the softer recoil (in my hands)but it is crazy how much you can squeeze the grip to deform the magwell. I haven't had any issues yet, but I could see there being issues with the mags dropping due to someone's deathgrip on the FNX. The finish. It is sub-par, IMHO, on the FN, especially for a $700 (base model). It definitely has a cheaper feel to it, kind of like comparing a PPQ and a VP9. The FN and Walther are great guns, but they feel cheaply made compared to their HK counterparts.

The slide “release” is actually a “slide lock,” not a “release.” People use it as a release all of the time, but it ruins the metals on the gun (rounds off the slide and the lock), and it’s counterintuitive. Great side-by-side video, very good to see them next to each other.

Some mis-informed individual commented on how the FNX will not be manufactured after 10 years. FN Herstal just got awarded the military contract to supply the M4 to our military. The only reason why glocks, sigs, and even HK's are more popular is because those brands have a large commercial presence and focuses more of their business towards that sector. FN has been supplying and focusing on military contracts. FN has a long lineage of making reliable firearms. They even had John Moses Browning on the payroll at one point. HK like Colt is having financial issues and will soon cease to exist. That is unless someone will buy them out. FN on the other hand is not only here to stay, but will be taking the market by storm. Matter of fact, some of the most innovative and baddest rifles are already being manufactured by FN (Scar). Their line is pistols is no exception. So a lot of you need to do your homework before continuing to be objective and riding solely on one brand that's popular and the only one that you know. Otherwise, good video comparison.

I disagree. HK leaving the firearm industry would be like losing Ferrari in the car industry. HK has also been just as big a player in the military sector as FN and commercial sales have always been an afterthought.
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62
@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 5 лет назад
70% of the small arms in the world's largest and most advanced military all come from one company; not Colt, not HK, but FN. John Moses Browning could have worked anywhere in the world, but instead made 60-some odd trips across the Atlantic to work at FN, which still owns the majority of his patents. I owned a USP Tactical 45 at one point. It was never all that reliable for me, the trigger crappy enough that I went from the HK to a Glock and considered it an improvement. Plus the recoil assembly gouged material out of the frame until you could see the serial number plate from the inside of the frame. But what perturbed me the most was the HK solidly refused to service the pistol. So I was a fan of HK until I actually owned an HK. Now, not so much. I'll take the FN.

@@MTMILITIAMAN7.62 Sorry, that's just not true. John Moses Browning lucked into the FN deal. He only truly went to work for FN because Winchester sat on the auto-5 long gun for years first (just a single contract before that). He was out of options for manufacturers in the US (which is a condition of the market segmentation that he created by selling his patent rights to them outright, instead of licensing: Colt for pistols and Winchester for long guns.). I love the history around John Browning, and while he was an American hero, he wasn't perfect and the world didn't think he was either at the time.

LOL. The debate is hardly over. You can get as much capacity as you want if you're willing to take a freakishly oversized pistol. The FNX has 15 rounds of 45, but in the same exact form factor you could easily get a pistol that holds 20-21 rounds of 9mm. There's really no way around this, it's a mathematical certainty. Given the same form factor, 9 mm will always have greater capacity than 45.

not sure why you gave the "durability" to HK, since FNX is a stainless steel slide, and HK is just plain old carbon steel, meaning it will rust if not taken care of where FN will never rust or pit, even if scratched or when coating gets rubbed off. I know you tried to be fair, but some of your criteria was a little wacky when picking the winner of each category.
@michaelthepsycho
@michaelthepsycho 7 лет назад
The nitrocarburizing process treats the bare metal underneath the HK. Even if you rub off the black oxide to expose bare, shiny metal (like holster wear), it's still protected. I would say most modern processes are about the same; Tennifer (not Tennifer in the States anymore, of course, because of the cyanide environmental regulations), Melonite, Nitron... It's all the same case-hardening principal. Some of his pros/cons are personal preference, as with anything in life.

But with the use of only one hand and with a gun suited for that hand, it could still be an issue, especially if the gun isn't loaded and with no round in the chamber. I have no doubt these are capable, well engineered guns but I personally feel people are just paying for the names. I purchased an HK 45T a while back. It was assembled in Columbus Georgia, not Germany. The serial numbers on the slide, barrel, and frame did not match. The FN only has one serial number and it's on the frame. It was made in Columbia SC, not Belgian. The prices they're charging for these guns are as if they came from the countries of these companies origins. 'Universal' Self-Loading Pistol referring to the easily modified operating controls and action variants. This is something that's always left out of every USP comparison video. Which isn't to say that it there aren't pistols out there that improve upon it's decades old designs aspects. When I purchased my USP, I chose to stick with the DA/SA factory setup. After trying the LEM trigger, I switched to DAO. In other words, I was able to modify the pistol to suit my tastes without having to go out and buy another gun. In that sense, it has saved me some money and I get to continue carrying a weapon that I already have a holster and extra mags for. The purpose of the slide STOP is to lock the slide back on the last round or to manually lock the slide to the rear while pushing UP on the slide stop (by looking at it it's designed to be pushed up, not down). Understanding this will she'd some light as to why the lever is smaller on the FNX, thus less intrusive, and a better design.

In fact the only thing I like more on my USP is the coating. It seems more durable and easier to keep clean. Other than that for me its hands down the FNX. The FNX handles recoil better, comes with more features, (rmr plate, tritium sights, 3 magazines, nicer case) Coating of the USP's extractor is already peeling and its only 6 months old and taken very good care of. USP is simpler design and much easier to clean. and I DO LOVE THE POLYGONAL RIFLING on the USP. I wish that the FN came with polygonal rifling. All in all I enjoy shooting my FN more. Great video. I like the mag release better on the USP. The slide release is so little on the FNX I never used it. Being a lefty I just used the sling shot method. The grip isn't bad on the FN but it is bigger/blockier, so the capacity is more. I also believe the build quality is better on the HK. The FN was flimsy in comparison. Had also cut myself a couple times on the back edge of the slide when I was cleaning the FN. HK doesn't have to make their rails replaceable, they will never wear out. HK trigger is better like you said. Don't have the FN anymore. Love my USP45T. But I am admittedly an HK fan boy.

+Elliott Butts I'm a lefty as well. I like Sigs but hate how they have the de-cocking lever on the left side. That's the life we live I guess. Although, with the massive slide release on the USP I can easily depress it with my trigger finger.

+Elliott Butts: As I stated above, I can easily release the slide on my FNX-9 with one hand simply by grabbing the release from both sides at once. I'm a small person and even I can grip the FNX-45T; and I'll take capacity & included mags ANY day! A slipstone can readily address any sharp protrusions -- something I would do on a gun's initial cleaning. Replaceable rails is a plus, period. I have two FN's now, and I find the triggers need some break-in. I'm an FN fanboy -- also left handed, so there. (lol)

About My FNX-45 Tactical Polymer Quality I am currently a owner of a Flat Dark Earth (FDE) FNX-45 Tactical....... I LOVE the feel and look of this firearm. I have over 8 inch hands in length, so it fits very well and comfortable for me in BOTH my hands. But I sadly must say (because I like this firearm SO MUCH) is that the polymer on mine is stiff, but if I squeeze hard, it will slightly flex. I live in Texas too! I have not left mine out in the Heat. I really RARELY fire both of my firearms. I am making more time to shoot with them, but I have put more rounds through my HKVP9 than my FNX-45 Tactical. I got my HKVP9 (my 1st handgun) and my FNX-45 Tactical (2nd handgun) in 2018 (I bought them a month apart), and my FNX-45 Tactical HAS JAMMED ON ME ABOUT 2-3 times! AND I FIRE IT LESS THAN MY HKVP9! I don’t shoot often, I am currently a rare occasion shooter. I am going to be shooting & practicing more often. My HKVP9... HAS NOT JAMMED ON ME! I really rarely fire my FNX-45 Tactical; as of today (8.30.2020) the last time I fired my FNX-45 Tactical was about 11 months ago. I use my HKVP9 as my EDC Firearm, and I like to use my FNX-45 Tactical for Home Defense. I really like the firearm still. I LOVE THE TRITIUM NIGHT SIGHTS! I love the threaded barrel, and of course the one thing that mostly draws ALL of us to this firearm....... the THREE 15 Round Magazines that come STANDARD with this. This FNX-45 Tactical size and feel is perfect for me and my hand size (over 8 inch long hands). I am 5’9” - 5’10” 230-240lb Man; Healthy, Strong, all that shit. THE SLIDE AND TRIGGER ARE VERY SMOOTH! Those are some things I like and don’t like about the / my FNX-45 Tactical. I am getting a .45 for EDC as well. And I have considered a Glock 21, HK45, HK USP .45 ($899-$1,000 -worth it though), and a FNX-45 (the non-tactical version). I really have thought about selling my FNX-45 Tactical for a HK45 or a HK USP .45 (WHICH IS A WAR GUN BUILT LIKE A TANK one step below its older brother... the Legendary Mark 23). I kinda want to keep it a little longer to test it out more. And if it pisses me off... sell it and get some .45 caliber HK. If it doesn’t piss me off... keep it and still get a .45 caliber HK. Heckler & Koch man... Legends in the Game... and for Good reason (HK MP5, HK USP .45 and HK USP .45 Tactical, the HK Mark 23 and others) I really just want my HKVP9, and some HK .45 caliber EDC firearm, and then I want the HK Mark 23 for REAL Home Defense and other REAL tests and tasks it will succeed at! Plus... just to say the words: “I am an owner of a HK USP .45.” And: “I am an owner of a HK Mark 23.” ARE JUST THE HIGHEST OF HONOR TO OWN EITHER OR BOTH OF THESE LEGENDARY HANDGUNS / FIREARMS FROM A LEGENDARY FIREARM MANUFACTURER / COMPANY! My HKVP9 is TRUE REINFORCED POLYMER THAT SUCKER DOES NOT BUDGE AT ALL! HK IS WORTH THE MONEY!

Reliability, trigger pull, crisp break, short reset, sight radius and accuracy the most important concerns when your life is on the line. I was thinking of FNX 45 instead of a HK USP 45 or a Mark 23. After this review I will stick to collecting Heckler and Koch's. They are absolutely reliable in all calibers. Reliability is always number one when choosing a tool I am trusting my life to. If the weapon does not function it don't matter if you got a laser or light with three 15 round magazines that was reasonably priced......and a zipper case to hold it in. Not saying I don't like laser lights and milled slides for red dots. I luv them.

E. White The feedback on the FNX .45 series has been hit and miss, and lets not even get into the issues that the FNX had to fix from the FNP. The quality control from HK is superior and the weapon is much more tried and true a choice.

***** Bull. Feedback has been great (for people that can fit it in your hands) Is this the only review you've seen for it? Look at Colion Noir, Hickok45, and lot's of others. HK might be better but the FNX works just as well.
@GluttonforPunishment
@GluttonforPunishment 9 лет назад
E. White I'm not talking about RU-vid feedback, I'm talking about feedback from a much larger user base. The FNP had serious issues from an excessive lack of chamber support and had an overly thin frame. A larger than normal percentage of the models blew up on users. As for the FNX, it has more support but reliability reports still haven't been overwhelmingly positive. Hit the forums more often and talk to people that work in the firearms industry if you get the chance and you'll hear more truth about the platform. RU-vid isn't the place to get all of your feedback on firearms. It's a place to see them in action, but not much more.

I love my usps, but it is a dated platform that still holds up in my opinion. Hk was the original tactical pistol, every other company ran with the idea and we now have many opinions. With that said the fn is a modern platform. Hk has newer designs with 1913 rail, but I still carry one of my full-size 9s everyday. I don’t like suppressors on hand guns if they aren’t 22 cal. Just my opinion. I think they will both do the job. I really like the Europe style mag paddle on hk. I don’t mind using the ggg adapter for a modern light of your choice. Sorry I’m rambling.

I love the USA but if I'm going to carry a big gun with heavy weight ammo I think the FK bruno 7.5 psd is a better choice. Way more power, range, and not that much heavier if you consider that the ammo itself weights 95-105 grain vs 200-230 grain 45 acp rounds. Total carry weight gets pretty close. Usps look cool as shit though
@FirearmTutorials
@FirearmTutorials 2 года назад
The problem with that is where to find a plentiful and affordable supply of 7.5 FK ammo. 45 ACP is EVERYWHERE. 7.5, 4.6 and arguably 5.7 are all novelty calibers since you can't easily source the ammo for it. That said, that FK BRNO is a cool looking gun. Never knew that existed. Thanks for sharing.

just to throw in my opinion. as an owner of the fnx and a lot of experience with the hk. they are about equally reliable. the fnx feels better to shoot. They are equally accurate. in fact I am more accurate with the fnx. fnx has more advantages. not to mention I know of a lot of special forces guys who use the fnx by choice. Both amazing guns. and lets not lie. its down to personal preference between the two. neither is really better then the other. The only thing I have not first hand played with is silencer issues. Hk tends to have way more fan boys that claim all these things that when you get down to it most of the time are not true or are just a lack of knowledge about fn... ever heard of an m4? the ones used by the us military are built by fn just so you know.. haha and the m249 saw.. but any who great comparison! id be happy with either one. or better yet screw the debate just buy both and don't argue.

I have an HK45 next is a USP 45 Tactical. About the rail...Guess who was first to put a rail on a pistol...I'll wait...I've handled a FNX Tactical in the local gun shops, and they are okay but nowhere near the quality of a USP. Not that I'm biased but the FNX is just not as refined. You can hold an FNX up to the light and look through it from the side. In the hand the USP just feels like a quality piece of engineering. The fact that the FNX has a cutout for a red dot is awesome, love that. But other then that, USP all day! But hey you can't convince a Ford guy that Chevy is better!

I have both. Just from a pure shooters stand point I think the FNX 45 tactical with its 15 round capacity is a much smoother easier gun to shoot. The H&K always felt like I was holding a bar of soap, just not a comfortable gun and has a lower capacity at that. As far as reliability IDK where this guy is getting his info but I go to the range with both guns and my FNX ends up being the garbage disposal for all the different ammo that jams my USP continuously. Steel casing cheap ammo doesnt go well with the H&K but I can feed my FNX anything.

I just noticed that my USP45T has a little amount slide-to-frame play, while my USP9 Expert has no such play at all. How is the slide-to-frame fit on your USP45T? Thank you.

Are you sure it's the frame and not the barrel lock up? The barrel on the Expert is much different than the rest of the USP line. Notice how polished the barrel hood is? I've heard they are "hand fitted" at the factory. Not sure how true that is. Either way it has all the makings of a true "match" pistol vs. a really good pistol in the USP-T.

HK will feed any bullet shape, better stick with ball ammo with the FN. Recoil is buttery soft with the HK also. Rated for +P+. Awesome accuracy at 50 yards. FN=show HK=go
