I got those focal Access and let me tell you guys that I’m impressed with the sound. I have the 3 way components in the front and the two coaxials in the back. With a 10” 600 watts sub two amps

I have a whole Rockford Fosgate system in my car. 6.5 T2's in the front, dash tweeters, 3 way 6x9 in the rear deck, 2 12 P1's in the trunk. I find with Rockford that they really come alive when you're listening to rock or metal. If you listen to anything else, they sound good, but just good. I was really looking into Focal speakers as a replacement in my next car.

You would be setting up for success if you did keep it! They continue to use Class AB amp design for the speaker channels which makes a world of difference.

Btw everybody, speakers are not designed to play one type of music (rock, jazz, hip hop, etc). Good speakers are designed to reproduce ever frequency in its bandpass equally, thus creating true acoustics. If you have a good speaker, it will play everything well! You can then eq to taste.

The Focal won't handle as much power (300 RMS vs. 1000 RMS) as the Type-R but they are much more efficient (92.8dB vs. 84.9dB) which will make up for a lot. Both offer deep frequency response and excellent build quality. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

Got a set in my Magnum. Love them. I listen to everything, @ loud levels. No distortion what so ever. High quality equipment.
@pete3198

Pet hate of mine when people say that a speaker has no distortion. Every speaker has distortion - some more then others. What most people mean when they say distortion is the sound a speaker makes when it bottoms out. Bottoming out and distortion are two very, very, very different things. Distortion is any variation between the played back signal and the original source. If your speaker is +2dB at 3khz, that is a form of linear distortion. Harmonic distortion (present on every speaker) is a form of non-linear distortion. Still distortion. In fact the harmonic distortion levels on Focal speakers tend to be a bit higher then I would like - but I still like the speakers because they make up for that by having their drivers performing very well in other criteria.

@82mage Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. All MP3 files are compressed. The sole purpose of the MP3 file format is to compress a large audio file to fit within a smaller memory space. The real question is: how much compression was applied? The answer lies within the bitrate (kbps) that was used to encode the file. A higher bitrate means less compression and a lower bitrate means greater compression. I've had the Polyglas 3 ways for almost 12 years now, they still play awesome, back in the day I used to listen a lot of Techno, Hip Hop, I would recomend this speakers, however they will sound better if you run them Active I have them pair with JL Slash amps 1 300/4 for the mids and tweets, and 1 300/2 for the mids and an Alpine 7 series, highly recomended.

@OmarRam1 I guess it all depends on what you are comparing them too. To some they might seem expensive, and to others they might seem cheap for the superior level of sound they provide. You can see their prices, customer reviews, and all the specs you can handle if you look these speakers up on the Crutchfield website. You can also find out if they fit your car right on the website, or you can call and ask one of our Advisors. Hope that helps, CrutchfieldTV, 800 315 0030

Jl w6 have very accurate base as do the w3 and w7 but for the money w6 is nice.iv never heard the focal subwoofer p30,but the k3 mids highs tweeters make music sound different than other it is so clear at high volumes it will become affordable all the sudden,but jl has very good mids in the c5 component set,best sq for cheaper prices prva and ds18 sound decent and the Rockford power series are always very clean and accurate

@82mage All mp3 are compressed, get atleast 320 kb/s for focal stuff else you might aswell buy cheaper stuff. Best is either flac or Apple lossless.. They are lossless codecs wich, just like winzip, compress but retain the original data.

This is a very general question. I normally do all my own car audio installs but this time i want an expert to do it and then are trying to sell me on Focal speakers. I really havent heard of them before so I am not sure. Are they higher end speakers? Then sub he wants me to get is a 10 inch focal that is only 4ohm 200 watts. I just dont get too excited about 200 watts. Is it just low because it is that much better that this 4 ohm 200 watt speaker is going to hit hard?

@crutchfieldtv How can you tell if a MP3 is "compressed" and is there a way to un-compress it. Let's say the MP3 player is just a normal Ipod Classic.
@hl5218
@hl5218 3 года назад
I know this comment is 8 years old, but practically every audio file is compressed unless it's from a raw recording. Mp3 is a lossy audio compression algorithm, similar to Ogg Vorbis, AAC, etc. What you want to play on high end audio equipment such as this is lossless audio codecs, preferably in 24-bit such as 24-bit FLAC 192kHz, ALAC, WAV, etc. FLAC is the best algorithm because it compresses the highest out of the other lossless compressions, and retains the same audio quality from what you'd see from a raw file.

No offense but this video was pretty bland. I can tell you just by text that my stock Infiniti G35 has Bose and these speakers were great back in 2003 but they're very harsh in the high-end treble, lacking in the mids, and medium in the bass. Bose are known for sounding good because they boost the high-end and it's the same trap guitarists fall into when tweaking metal guitar presets; high bass, no mids, high treble = sweet metal tones... I replaced my front speakers with Focals and just by doing that my quality went up 75% because it added more bass and mids with a decent amount of treble but they don't distort at high volume. My rear deck is still stock Bose that I'll be replacing here soon and I'm thinking about sticking with Focal 6x9s to keep it all together. I don't have experience with Polk speakers but I do have experience with Polk 12" subs and they slap greatly. Powered by a 2,000 watt amp, I have a nice blend of everything in my coupe. I still hear some fizziness coming from my rear Bose speakers but it's light years ahead of what it used to be with all Bose. For a coupe where you're limited with speaker placement and more reflections than you'd find in a sedan, I am starting to favor speakers with bigger low end and mids without so much treble due to those reflections and lack of speakers that you'd find in sedans in the back doors.

Hey Crutchfield, I've got a 2011 F150, dynamat head to toe and currently running the Infinity Kappa 682.9cf in front and Alpine SPR-68 in the rear. All four are running off the Hifonics Brutus Elite 800.4 with a 12" shallow mount Pioneer on a Performance Teknique Icbm-1200.1 all driven with a Clarion EQS746 equalizer - all purchased from you, except the mono amp. No matter how well I tune or tinker I can not get the mids I am craving. I am thinking about purchasing the Focal ISS 570 components, putting them up front, moving the Infinity's back and removing the Alpine's. But all of my current speakers have 100w RMS handling from the 800.4 and the Focal's are only rated for 60w RMS. Is it a necessity to change amps or can the Focal's take the power? Thanks for everything, past, present and future!

jshannon2k8 I just made ported door pods, had the same problem, the door air volume was like 10+ litres. I made the door pods to about 3-3.5 litres and used Winisd to make the most of Theiles/Small parameters for the port, tuned to 95hz- peaks at 300hz. If anyone tells you it doesn't work, yeah if your rocking a walled of spl monster, but for sound quality, they really shine with vocals and guitar, I feel the guitar strings being picked in my chest.

Why don't you just play the speakers so we can hear them for ourselves! Also the inverted dome actually aids dispersion...quote from Focal concerning inverted dome tweeter.... "It provides better space dispersion and very low directivity". As experts in the field you should really check the facts before making a video viewed by thousands of people! Also when you are selling high end equipment you are dealing with people who know audio.

Not even close dude. That's assuming that they used a professional series studio microphone, recorded it digitally and lossless, encoded it into the video in lossless quality, uploaded to youtube in lossless quality (which isn't even supported), played through a high end studio grade sound card like a Terratec then finally outputting to a studio grade headphones with a sensitivity rating broader than that of both sets of speakers (highly unlikely). Then you might, MIGHT, be able to isolate distinct differences in sound. But likely case is they recorded this on a camera mounted shotgun mic, line out straight with the video in 128k mono, further degraded by RU-vid compression algorithm. So sorry Mr. Audiophile, no, not with headphones on.

lol sorry dude but these guys are right - that was a pretty silly suggestion.
@biggunsclub1
@biggunsclub1 7 лет назад
I don't think anyone is getting the point. It's not about hearing the quality it's about hearing the differences. every speaker has a sound signature and these can be clearly heard even over mediocre playback sources. for instance you can clearly hear the difference between a Blaupunkt and Alpine in-car system even on a downloaded video. listen to the many Bose in-car system videos for instance and you can clearly hear that typical thick and rounded Bose sound. Variations in frequency response is what I was interested in.

If you knew something about audio and heard them in an appropriate context, then you would understand why they have a good reputation. I've not always loved EVERY Focal speaker I have heard, but I've heard some that sounded really spectacular - and that's coming from a person who is extremely picky about audio.
@andrewbrister7200

Jose Chimal they were on a focal amp. The amp lasted a week before it fried itself and the speakers. Never turned above 16 and let the shop tune it all. For 800 on just speakers and 500 just one the amp, i was expecting alot more. Mclarens are alot more clear and an 1/8 of the price.
@pete3198
@pete3198 7 лет назад
Andrew Brister I had an Arc audio xxk amp fry itself on me - unfortunate but sometimes you just get an unlucky bad apple. That said if the amp was bad then that could explain why you didn't like the speakers. Or they weren't installed optimally. Don't make the mistake of assuming a shop installer knows what they are doing - often they don't. Or maybe you just have a different listening taste and don't like a technically accurate speaker. It's not out of the ordinary, lots of people prefer a sound that is "coloured" a specific way.
@andrewbrister7200

A car is not a good environment for music listening. People can wax poetic all they want about the fidelity of their car speakers but it doesn't matter. Road noise, other vehicles, glass right in front of you.

It's true (except in a Rolls Royce maybe), but a good sound system will still be a lot better than the factory crap, while still being affordable. Plus you can reduce those noises (quiet tires, adding insulation...)

Thats why people who buy high end car audio get deadening and sometimes even custom speaker boxes to seal up their doors.
@pete3198
@pete3198 7 лет назад
The message you are basically sending here is - "if something appears difficult, then don't bother trying". You are absolutely correct that a car is not a good environment for music. It's a terrible one. Offset listening position, reflections off panels, phase issues, road noise, you name it. It's one of the worst possible environments to try to get good sound in. BUT that doesn't mean you can't still get pretty good sound in a car if you really put your mind to it, or really terrible sound if you don't - and the speaker drivers you choose naturally play a huge part in determining which of the above you are going to have. So to say the fidelity of speakers doesn't matter is, quite honestly, bullshit.
