I just heard these for the first time. O - M - G. Absolutely blown away. Had tears in my eyes from the first song I played. Everything was super involving and wrapped around me like a vortex blanket. I didn't know something existed with this much sparkle, insane mids and super punchy bass at the same time. Fairy dust meets sledge hammer. Just pure elation. Every song I played. They are truly a thing of beauty. Perfect fit for my large ears and big head is unheard of. I am deeply moved by the design and absolutely magical quality of sound. This is it. This is the one.

Freddy I agree with you! The MG is absolutely amazing, I bought a pair and they are the best open back I have ever owned. Everything you said I agree with - so involving, everything is turned up to 11 - bass is incredible, mids are beautiful, treble is energetic, detailed, non fatiguing but brilliant. The imaging is amazing on these things and the detail is incredible, am hearing all sorts of nuances in songs. What a freaking amazing headphone.

@@scottmccomish1173 Hi, I finally returned its because it clamps or do a rare noise at high volume. Comparing vs Celestee is not so fair as Clears are open back. Celestee has more bass and more punch and is also pretty fast. Clear is more dynamic and neutral to me, bass is also good but less punchy than Celestee, maybe because their openback structure. Comfort is the same, maybe Clear less warmer because again, they are openback.

I just bought a pair of these strongly influenced by this review as my listening preferences are 75% EDM and the rest modern pop type music. I love a hard hitting fun impactful bass and air and sparkle to give the EDM the pop that it needs. I like the WOW effect where a headphone really makes for an impressive and entertaining experience. EDM is my thing. I hope I made a good decision, according to your review it seems like the MG was worth a shot.

@@ConvinceMeAudio Will do! Right now my favorite for EDM is my ultrasone edition 8 carbon which completely nails it to my ears for the genre. Nothing I have tried is more enjoyable. I felt almost stupid buying the MG as I already have my favorite but you never know right?!

So much fun to listen to, the bass hits hard, the detail retrieval is amazing, the midrange is textured and beautiful with vocals, they have energetic treble... the imaging.... man thank you for this recommendation, the MG is amazing!!! What a headphone!

CMA nailed it. Coming from the Focal Radiance which I loved for their smooth and elegant presentation, the Clear MGs in contrast (that too!) tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. And music at its best, is a form of truth. They are wonderous. Who would have thought that being hit by a truck, sounds this good?! As an aside, for my noggin, these Focals are an easy wear for hours on end. I lucked out. And for the love of god, break'em in!

What amp and dac pairing did you find to pair the best? You say warm amp in the review, but in your other reviews you’ve given specific impression of various amps. I currently have mine (dekoni elite fenestrated pads) paired with a Singxer SA-1 w/ jumper mod along with a Topping D70s dac. I really enjoy this chain. Was just curious what your findings were and what you thought paired the best.

That is correct I actually do yes. In this situation I use the following Sennheiser HDVD800 topping a90 I believe those two amplifiers were on the desk at the time

@@ConvinceMeAudio oh gotcha. I heard you say “something like a HDVD800”, but wasn’t sure if that was the amp that you truly felt was the best fit for it or not. How would that amp stack up against the Singxer SA-1, for this hp? Do you feel that it would be a worthwhile upgrade from a Singxer SA-1? Btw great job on the content that you’re putting out. You do a really good job imho. Surprised you haven’t gotten more traction than you have. I imagine it won’t be long from now.

@@devinmatteson that amplifier is quite a leap performance wise above the singxa Apart from one or two planar headphones, that randomly synergise perfectly with it, it’s a predominantly dynamic headphone amplifier Especially with high impedance headphones but in my experience it makes most things sound sublime in the dynamic Area. I put out the review of the HDvd on the channel Thanks mate I appreciate it hopefully we can keep up the momentum, we are growing at a steady rate thanks to you Guys

Quick question. You mention that for EDM they win, but I have had issues with clipping on my OG clears when it comes to EDM , trap, riddim: I can play any song I want on my lcd x and they will never clip ever. Even when it's way too loud. Does the MG have the same issue that the OG has? Thanks for your time

I had issues with the OG driver breaking up after 85 dB In the base region especially, but I never experienced that with the MG, you’ve got to take into account I listened pretty quietly as well but under duress testing around 70 TV after break in it was fine I did not get the same experience as the OG at 85Db with the driver breaking up

I have these and have enjoyed them a lot; but just recently got the Utopia and haven’t touched the MG’s since. I didn’t realize how much clarity and imaging depth was missing from the mg, but the warmer signature is complementary to the Utopia. I agree there is some treble sibilance with the mgs as with Utopia; awaiting a tube amplifier.

Utopia on tubes is a whole different beast, the only reason I’ve not purchased it for the channel yet, is because I’m waiting for the latest model utopia 2022 to come in for review in the next month or so after that I’ll make my choice, when you get it Hooked up to the tube amplifier, drop your impressions here

Clear winner I don’t think so, but I think Aria is far more versatile I would go for the stealth version. It’s easier to drive but you lose a touch of stage I hear, but the V2 version of Aria really does require a good chain focal does not They are very very different headphones, different presentation, different tonality et cetera. They can’t be compared really honestly, even though they sit in the same category I recommend watching my shoot out and see which one fits your needs best

Hi, do you still recommend Clear MG if I want harder bass for Edm etc. ? I searching for headphones that will be opposite to Hd800s, i have Questyle Fifteen which I purchase thanks to you & Feliks Elise. I consider also Fostex 909 & Meze Liric but i'm afraid about a synergy with my amplifiers.

Definitely, these headphones are fantastic for that Be careful, there is a treble extension that goes into 18 k for some users. It can be fatiguing for others it’s not detectable It’s a nice choice

I recently got a pair of newish/used Clear MG paired with Topping A90 and Dragonfly Cobalt as a Dac.. experiencing some harshness in treble and lack of bass.. not really enjoying it .. Could it be the cobalt ? Not burnt in?

@@Besserwisser1900 they are quite sharp in the treble region as a rule, something with a touch of a warmth yield, much better result, but if you don’t want to spend too much I recommend replacing your DAC with accord Mojo to and using that, and if certain areas bother you use the DSP correction Also, check out the shoot out review for this headphone, and I discuss amplification et cetera more remember, this is a very old review from two years ago and there have been a lot of releases in amplification and DAC for good price points since this

It's funny with the cables, I've come from a Sundara and also a DT 700 Pro X to the Radiance and Clear MG and it seems the more you spend on the headphones, the worse the cable they come with is. Luckily I had already bought a couple of replacement cables that I quite like that were for the Sundara and so I just use those

I have the Celestee and can wear them for hours. My longest work, music and gaming session is over 12h without any problem. Yes, the first time i put them on my head i was thinking "Wow, they are heavy." especially because i came from Sennheiser HD660s but after a couple of days i can wear them like a glove without any issue. When your neck is that weak you should really do something about it.

@@ConvinceMeAudio i also did bodybuilding for over 6 years and only stopped because of health issues. Most bodybuilders i know only train peak strength to get big muscles but peak strength is useless for everyday tasks like wearing an heavy headphone. I will stand by my post, when your neck is to weak to wear the headphone longer than 1-2h you have to do something about it.

@@iPain3G I honestly am having difficulty remembering this review. This was from three years ago, I recommend doing a scroll down the channel list to see what headphones are being tested, I’m currently using the A12 66TC and have no issues wearing it all day. 😎 sorry to hear it stopped you from training, that’s never a fun situation When you guys come across videos from years ago, also expect some stuff to change et cetera. This is very difficult to constantly maintain and keep up as you can imagine re correcting information from the past because at the time this was definitely the situation for me, but I genuinely can’t remember what I said I’ll be honest with you, it’s been a long long time I have reviewed the entire focal lineup now I think apart from the one you currently own

Meze empy Build quality, comfort, relaxing sound, you can wear it all day, absolutely stunning, works easier with a variety of equipment, no brainer

Idk i find them very comfortable , not as much as the Arya but still . Also they have the treble recessed , it's known that they're dark headphones . Nothing that can't be fixed with EQ though

I swapped the ear pads out for Dekoni Elite Fenestrated. They resolved the issue of them sounding too dark, without causing them to become sibilant or negatively affecting the rest of the frequency response. I suppose that the utopia pads would effect them similarly, but those were a little bit more than I was wanting to spend.

No, more dynamic more punchy just a little bit more apparent that it’s slightly on the slow side for the subbase It is a much better base response than the OG

@@anuragsaha145 The OG is very dynamic and punchy, but this MG takes it to another level with slightly higher resolution And it’s just more apparent and obvious And subbase is definitely more intricate then og There were slight timbre and tonality issues with OG that this one improves upon

It’s marginally better, and in some areas a bit problematic if you’re really sensitive to treble and air But there is an upgrade, I recommend keeping the OG, and actually buying a different pair of headphones in this category that’s a little bit more of an upgrade to be fair

They are very easy to drive, obviously using a dongle like Paw 1s you will get a good performance out of it even out of the lightning Dongle, it will sound okay, good enough to get on with, but it’s not the same as a full blown desktop setup

I know what you mean, there is a slight pressure buildup at the bottom of the cups. Build quality is great, but comfort, not for me, for both of them OG, and MG

The drivers are, yes tuning is actually better on the OG I found them fatiguing after 40 minutes

@@ConvinceMeAudio I have no issues with comfort, maybe only with pads that after time can squeeze and get shallow so my ears can touch metal grills inside. Like you I dont like Focal cables so I did upgrade to copper/silver hybrid. Dont know if you have try them on tubes, they really like it :)

'A single alloy material' is a contradiction in terms. An 'alloy' is a chemical mixture of different materials. Being 100% magnesium (which I doubt), it's isn't an alloy. ;) Cheers!

I have no problems whatsoever wearing these for a long time. It’s entirely personal. And if you can’t wear these, then you can’t wear any of Focal’s headphones since they are all very similar in size & weight & design. Also, the pads and the inside padding of the headband is not leather, it’s microfibre material which is very strong and durable (in fact I would argue it is stronger than leather, since leather tends to ‘crack’ or dry out over time).

That’s really unfortunate because utopia and stelia are coming in for review. but it would be more than fine if they reduce the headband by about a third and put some bloody phone in there. The headband is 1 inch thick LOL for no reason. I currently have Diana V2 on the desk and they could learn a thing or two from them But it’s awesome that it works for you, because they sound great I really did enjoy it

@@ConvinceMeAudio Focal headphones do not leave a lot of room for flexibility… it either fits or it doesn’t. For me, the headband is in contact with my head for a good stretch of its length, so I’ve got good weight distribution. For you, it probably focusses all its weight right at the top.. that’s where it gets uncomfortable. Anyway, good review.. always nice to get some after-purchase feedback from other people. And I haven’t heard anyone complain about the sound yet… it’s brilliant. :). The Utopia and Stellia are way off budget for me.. very unfortunate! 😁
