Focal Points Part 2: Thoughts on Focal's Headphone Line 

Around 22:40 I mentioned Focal had fixed the 19Khz peak in the Clear MG. I actually can't confirm that. My apologies. Pinning this comment so hopefully it gets seen.

Elegia, according to me, has the presentation of very good stereo speakers in a big hall.

Excellent job although I would a reinforce how well imaging separation attributes are on focal headphones, my elegia, to my ears, outperformed 2021 lcd x new revision audeze in all my tests with the two exceptions being bass textures and timbre mostly noticeable on acoustic tracks. My amps used on both headphones for posterity were thx onyx, Fiio btr3k (sounded the best on elegia somehow to me!) and audeze deckard. I am seriously considering the radiance as my next step up in this hobby thanks in large part to your breakdown. Thank you 🙏 never change…except one thing.. camera quality, respectfully.

Elegia + Dekoni Stellia pads is a winner

Own both the Clear MG and the Celestee, I actually disagree on the OG, MG Comparison. Having owned the OG prior, I believe the MG is a more detailed Headphone with less peaks in the high end a more pronounced low end.

Wave theory continues bringing the heat. Big focal fan! Besides ZMF and Abyss they are my 3rd fav Manufacturer. Bought my og clears used for $500 and Celestee for $650. Great buys per $ invested

at the 22:40 mark you mentioned the exaggerated treble in the air frequencies has been fixed for the focal clear mg. I was wondering where I can find the source to confirm this. I ask as it is the only thing that has been putting me off checking the headphone out as I cannot handle any treble harshness

Excellent video! I really appreciate your take on the Focal lineup. I too started with an Elegia, and while I was initially taken about by their detail retrieval, I found that as I continued to accumulate experience in the hobby that their tonality was/is totally wonky to me. I was only able to mitigate their sound signature by swapping to Dekoni Hybrid pads and using EQ to drop their upper mid range emphasis. I found the Focal Listens (wireless) far more enjoyable as a treble/detail focused experience. I eventually landed with a Stellia on deep discount (open box, no prior owner) and absolutely love it. However that too I've pad swapped because to me Focal doesn't put enough actual padding in their pads. This affects both the staging and the sealing for their closed back offerings imo. The Stellia pads are incredibly comfortable but too shallow. Over time my ears would consistently touch in the inner housing. I opted for the Dekoni LTD pads which add a bit more depth to the soundstage and inject a bit more top end air balancing out the mid range emphasis. I've only owned 3 Focals but the pads were not sufficient on all three. It seems they focus on (no pun intended) detail through mid-range elevation, and I've had to EQ each pair to strike a balance between having resolved detail but not at the cost of euphonics. To me the Elegia isn't what I want from a listening experience, even with swapped pads, even with EQ or filters, the tonality and staging are both bizarre to my ears. The Stellia however is glorious and really doesn't require EQ after pad rolling. It is however not broadly applicable to all recordings. Even though I don't find its detail retrieval fatiguing, it will expose poorly recorded music. It's a more lively and rich tuning, and while it'll elevate a good recording something fierce, it can outright ruin others. They're an interesting brand. I wonder if they don't need a better venting solution for their closed backs. To my eyes they're the best looking cans in the industry. But ZMF has them on euphonics and DCA has them on ergonomics. I want to hear an open Focal but don't feel like giving Dekoni more money for additional pad swaps 😠. Anyway, great breakdown, appreciate your concise and thoroughly explanation of the Focal lineup.
