I think the VR perspective is fantastic it adds a lot to the overall feeling! Especially from minute ten it gets so exciting, better than most of the netflix stuff these days :) It was so super immersive to watch and I'm really looking forward to everything that comes from you in VR!
hah, yeah, the wing drop is one of the things that you forget when you switch types a lot - which I've been doing more recently. This is one of the great things about DCS, that currency and time-on-type really matters!
Toll, fancy flying down low , German audio no problem for me and the Kiwi accent in Deutsch also cool , but very difficult to see everything on youtube in low light levels , but I guess that was like it for the old fellows , really enjoying your great work all the best ,Leigh
Hi , Phil Great video. I’m so glad you flew the Anton I been flying it and still having little trouble taking off but I just love the old plane. I will be getting on the storm of war soon . Greg
1. DCS Customers - don't forget to keep the visibility up regarding the bugs/ outstanding items with the Anton in particular and DCS WW2 modules (trains in multiplayer - reported in 2017 and still not fixed - forums.eagle.ru/topic/165760-reportedinvisible-trains-in-multiplayer/?tab=comments#comment-4710247 ) 2. I know the shakiness of the recordings due to VR is not everyone's cup of tea. I tried using video stabilization in the edit but it made things worse. I'm looking at options, but it might just be the way things are from now on. Future videos might be shorter, with more external views to try and balance it out more 3. I now know how to raise the camera view a bit. For future videos that should be fixed. This was recorded prior to being told that the 2D camera position commands also work for VR.
The shaking was a bit irritating at first, but after two minutes of this video I got used to it and didn't notice it anymore. How happy are you with VR so far? I'd really like to try it some day, but I think I'll wait another 1 or 2 headset and graphics card generations. I'm not sure the technology is where it needs to be yet.
@@lukasgrob3321 I think that the 4000 Nvidia series of GPUs with the current generation of CPUs (top ones like AMD 5950x) will be perfect. The headsets themselves are already capable of rendering very good resolutions, it is just too much for the GPU at the moment. I am running the Reverb G2 at 50% of what it is capable of, due to GPU bottleneck with my 2080Ti. even with a 3090, most people are still running it at around 70% of it's full resolution. Alternatively, DCS itself also needs refinement and performance improvements in this area too. I might make a summary video about all this when I have played some more.
I have a sweet spot for the Anton's so happy to see another A8 video. Flying in VR is amazing, though I would estimate that for pure effectiveness, TrackIR is better. Immersion and (therefore) enjoyment wise, there is no competition for me and VR is a clear winner. What is your view on your experience of flying in VR so far?
@@philstyle Vielen Dank. Let me guess you build Windturbines? Would fit perfectly.😅 Thank you for this work, must be important especially in these times.
Ok...I have seen a ton of "these" videos...but my dude...That was a PROPER FUCKING RIDE my friend..!! I can not believe I wasn't subed to you already...but this was my introduction to your content, and I couldn't be more impressed. I mean from start to shakey finish, that was a treat to a shit day, to be honest. Don't worry, I'm not mental or anything, but I wanna post a clip...that is if you don't mind, of course. All credit to you of course, still if you should ever want it down...have but to ask..!! Greetings from California, btw...Cheers..!! And that machine is something else too...very very impressive..!! Imagine, still living in a world of class... ((=))
I wonder how well a warbird flies when missing an aileron, I mean in dcs it's a bit of reduced roll rate... but in RL? Probably spinning out of control.
I have a very similar rig as you with the G2, I cant get smooth play. I just want to have a good experience. Can you maybe give a brief on your settings? I have a 5800x, 3070, 32 Gb ram and on and ssd.
Super dumb question, but how does SRS work with Warbirds in DCS MP? Since you can't change freq in cockpit, are there common frequencies assigned for ATC/GCI (ww2 equivalent), flights on the server side?
It is up to the mission maker to specify what frequencies the radios have for each spawn-able aircraft. On storm of war server there is a Guard frequency for each team on a specific channel. Each aircraft has that frequency set - this might be Channel A on all radios on that team, for example. Then, there is a second guard channel for each team, this might be channel B. Finally each aircraft also has a channel set to its home airfield, this might be Channel C. The mission briefings explicitly state which channel is which. Here is an example of how this is communicated to the players, in the briefing images: i.imgur.com/HUKfEOk.jpg It's pretty simple and works perfectly.
Just lent me the A-8, try to get used to it. Your video comes in handy. I have to say your German is really good! Or is it exactly the other way around? Either way, definitely good, more of it please! 👍
Hey Phil, I’m having a similar issue that you had in the previous VR video where the default head position was too low- I was curious what your workaround was to capture head movement in the track file? Any changes to the camera stops the head movement in the track file
I like the paint scheme on this FW, is it historically accurate? I’ve seen a lot of FW schemes and this one I’m not familiar with. Where can I find more info?
It was dark.. the sun was setting and was already on the horizon by the time I landed. I already increased the gain quite a bit, but any more washes it out too much.
How's your overall feeling about the Reverb G2 vs flat screen Phil? I'm about to get a new rig and likely a G2 too but am wary of the limited FOV. P.S. Thx for pressing ED for the A8 bug fixes.
@@hicks3749 my joystick is between my knees so i cannot dwivel the chair. But i have found this much better more my neck. It forces me to be more mobile, which is good.
Hey phil, nice flying! Also, your game looks incredible. I'm looking at a PC upgrade in the near future, intending on playing @1440p ultra settings, was wondering your thoughts on a suitable CPU to make this happen? I'm thinking of picking up a 6800xt for the GPU but not sure how reliant DCS is on CPU?
An AMD 6800xt Graphics card with any AMD 3000 series processor (I have a 3800x CPU) will be fine for 1440p. 32GM RAM almost a necessity, with 64G RAM recommended in my opinion.
@@priest9235 I think anything over 3400-speed RAM doesn't matter with an X570 motherboard. If you look at the description to the video, at the bottom you'll see my PC specs. My PC is far from top of the line. I can run DCS with most stuff on high, in 1440p and it never goes below 70 fps - whilst recording also..
I wonder if in real life too, the 190 vs Spitfire IX was such a 'David vs Goliath' matchup. It's complete suicide unless you achieve a surprise attack.
The IX was introduced as a respond to the 190-A so yeah I think it was superior. The tables would be reversed if the Anton were up against the aircraft that it was designed to combat - the spitfire V.
@@philstyle I know that, but what I didn't know is that it had such a massive advantage. Attacking a Spit in a 190 feels like attacking a Sopwith Camel in a Fokker Eindecker... Which brings me to an even more interesting point: the 190 was known to fly circles around the Mk.Vb. That would mean the difference between an Mk.Vb and a Mk.IX was astronomical.
@@ReflectedSimulations "Attacking a Spit in a 190 feels like attacking a Sopwith Camel in a Fokker Eindecker." I don't see that at all, certainly not in this video. I caught the first spitfire without too much trouble and hit him, forcing him to retire. The second one bounced me and I ran, he was then set upon by two other FWs and destroyed by me soon after. 1 spitfire damaged, 1 destroyed, no FWs lost
@@philstyle What I mean is that a Spit can outrun, outturn and outclimb you easily, so it's a pretty disadvantageous position. Teamwork and surprise were key here.
@@ReflectedSimulations Spitfire didn't outrun me in this video. . . the Anton is faster than the spitfire by 20kph at sea level. In an extended climb the spit 9 has a better rate, but I was catching him in the initial climb. Anton has vastly superior dive speed, which was not relevant in this fight. But in a spitfire is never doing to out dive an anton in a straight line. Anton also has vastly better guns - which showed. You can also dump half the ammo in the Anton which gives a but more climb rate, and still have enough to knock down a few spitfires. Anton has better roll rate too. If that spitfire trailing me into the city had been a P47, his shots wouldn't have been so wild. The P47 can roll with the Anton, the spitfire cannot. Spitfire has vastly better turn rate at all speeds. . . OK, fine I don't see vast gaps in all categories.
I just cannot watch VR footage, everythings a shaky mess. It may be ok for when youre playing but for watching videos trackIR is much smoother. VR gives me the feeling sitting in an old bus driving over a very bumpy road or something, cant watch it longer than 5 minutes.
