Love my 2016 Salvage title ST: Misfires gone when I run 93 octane Ethanol free fuel. Lower octane and/or ethanol fuels definitely cause misfires. I've confirmed it. Don't need an idiot light to know I have a misfire. Just replaced my purge valve. Wasn't going to take it to the dealership because they take forever. Just purchased a new one from the parts department. $54 Easy install. Just leave the bracket on the motor, remove the valve/tube assy and grommet from the bracket. Take the bracket off the new one. Slip the tube assy/grommet to the bracket on the motor. Took me maybe half hour. Just need a skin spoon to get the bracket off grommet on the new one, that was the difficult part.
I have a 2013 FOCUS ST ST2 I bought new. Put the wheels on it that are on yours its tuxedo black. Its stage 3. Ive had about every type of performance car and or truck you can emagine and this is the most fun to drive and the absolute perfect daily especially now that its paid for. I average 25.5 mpg city and 32mpg hwy. The tune and down pipe made a HUGE difference in the car it makes 370wtq..... So it can hurt unsuspecting feelings on short bursts 40-80. Makes for a perfect autox car and a heckmof a back road carver. Has motor mounts and h&r springs. Knock on wood only problem ive had is a bad down draft oxygen sensor.
I had that problem on my RS due to dirty crank position senor when ford did my headgasket. all is good now check the harness for apparent rips or being oiled up.
I have a 2017 Focus ST and have it at the dealership. Issues came up with it having a misfire in cylinder 4. They replaced all 4 spark plugs based on a bulletin Ford had issued, and I got it back. It was still driving rough and the check engine light came on. It was still misfiring. They said that it had codes for a recall related to the fuel tank purge valve recall that Ford had issued, which they previously checked for and at that time did not show there was any issue with it. I finally got my car back again and it is still having issues. The check engine light did not come back on again, however on starting it (the weather has been extremely cold) the idle is inconsistent. When I am sitting in it, it feels like the rpm's drop significantly ever 15 seconds or so, however the tachometer doesn't register the rpm change. When I am driving it at highway speeds, about a constant 60 mph, it still feels like the engine is chugging every so often. I am supposed to bring it back to the Ford dealership Monday. I really don't know what the issue is, and since the check engine light is no longer actually turning on, I don't want them to try and tell me everything is fine when I know it isn't. I am not a mechanic but I do know how my car is supposed to feel when I am driving it. I don't want them to try and pull something over on me just because I am a woman and they think I don't know what I am talking about. I love my ST and want it fixed. I know your video was from months ago, but any suggestions would be much appreciated either with how to talk with the service techs or as to what the issue could still be. Thank You!
It is always tough explaining issues that are inconsistent and as hard as it is to explain is just a frustrating it is for the shop to diagnose. Mine also feel like that and the RPM gauge sometimes will register the change but still no check engine light. My next move, since my leak down and compression test both show that it is strong, will be custom tuning. With the Cobb tunes it makes it worse which leads me to believe we can make it better and will be addressing the results in spring once i start custom tuning. Wish i could help you more but i have the same problem and due to no oil consumption, good compression, no power loss i am do not have a resolution. Try starting it and letting it run until it kills itself, roughly 10 min. Long cold start idles is the only thing that will trigger the Check engine light. Ice cold only in my case. once i was able to replicate it a few times with the same circumstances i brought it in to the dealership. Good Luck!
Same /: it’s a 2016 misfires when cold but once warmed up they go away. I’m thinking gunked up valves but feel like taking off the intake manifold.. only 54k miles too
@@colerobinson3624 haven’t tried anything yet because the misfires would go away but they’re back so I’m going to replace both o2 sensors and see if the problem is still there
I randomly got a p0300 and p0316 misfire at cold start. Just did the evap recall and it came back again. Seems to drive fine when the codes get cleared. Pulled the plugs all 4 were perfect and gap was fine. Going to do a compression test tomorrow hoping for the best
Best of luck! Mine still feels like it's missing but counts are low to be safe. Has it's good days and bad, going to intercooled it and work with tuner to see if we can correct it in software with more or less fuel at idle.
@Jordan Hersh did you get it fixed ? I just had this issue randomly had a p0300 and p0316 just replaced the spark plugs.... I’m debating on installing my pop and crack tune....
So just so we're clear, your car was throwing a misfire code for that miss at idle right? My car has a very slight miss when cold, but aside from that it runs really smooth. Also has an intermittent idle shudder, which is definitely something electrical, due to it being intermittent, mechanical stuff usually doesn't behave that way from my experience working on cars. Or it was something with dirt in the fuel system, cuz I just put a bottle of Ford Motorcraft PM6 fuel system cleaner through it and it hasnt done it again. Car is a 17 with only 19k on the clock. I just putt it around town, occasional on-ramp pull, thats about it. Was engine modified for a short time but when the issues cropped up got sketched out and decided it wasnt worth it. So its basically got what you got, Borla cat-back, K&N filter, wanna get an RS airbox for sure, but we have mice, so i dont want one chewing through the filter and going into the intake tube, have found droppings on the engine cover (literally the WEEK I got it, I was PISSED). Slew of visual mods, full carbon interior (stick on, but real carbon), Rally Innovations aero kit, Velossatech rear diffuser fins, sharkfin antenna, RS Tail lights, and Spyder Auto Headlights, also rocking some decepticon badges cuz she's a naughty girl, like me ;)
Hey man, the intermittent shudder happens on mine. It’s drives absolutely fine but when idle it shudders ever so slightly now and again. Don’t want to throw loads of parts at it but going to get new spark plugs first
SOunds like you had a hell of an experience with that ST man. Sorry to hear. Funny you still love the car otherwise. That would have left a very sour taste in my mouth
I may be late to this but I have a 2014 Ford Focus st and it misfires when casually going down the road and at idle do you have any suggestions on what it could be. I’ve changed plugs
I worked at my local Ford dealership for just over a year before moving to west Ohio and i remember i was saving up for an ST. Well after seeing dozens and dozens of fiesta/focus STs come through with engine & ecu problems i decided not to get one. They are definitely not the worst cars ever tho. But just a heads up brother, watch that temp guage. The thermostat is iffy
