Focus ST On Track-Better Than the Fiesta ST? 

I ended up getting the FiST after testing driving both. Buy a Cobb AP for $500 & you're golden. If you're worried about warranty, Mountune has a AP thru Ford Performance. I liked the FoST...I fell in love with the FiST. Both are great cars in their own ways. Heading to Octane this May! So fricken excited! Can't wait!

Me personally, I rather a Fiesta ST just bc the fun/cost factor is a bit higher imo

I went to Octane academy and had similar thoughts. The fiesta you could just thrash and not worry about screwing up. The focus was a bit to fast to get away with that. Good thing I bough the focus :)

Just as a heads up, you can easily correct the understeer mid-corner by lifting off the throttle and bringing the tail around a touch.

Less bitching, more driving David! You will know when the car isnt happy -- have faith! Throw it into a corner and just feel it out, no sense in being worried the whole time! :)

You're turning into the corner is way too early. the best thing for you would be to have a competent driver in the passenger seat telling you what to do. So what do you like better the focus or the fiesta I bought a fiesta because I find it much more exciting to drive it handles like a go kart, and also because it was only $18,900 with 580 miles on it with a $26,500 MSRP. Smoken deal.

Also, if you're having understeer issues on apex's with the FoST, remember that FWD cars like the FoST have great lift-off-oversteer characteristics. You can plow these things into corners, lift, apex, and gas out pretty well.

the focus is faster on that course. I did it a while back there.

The Focus ST has more room for both cargo and people, the same or better skidpad numbers (handling), better rear suspension, more power, is faster on the track and the street, and is the better car. I test drove both cars and there was no comparison, the Focus wins hands down. FiST's are nice cars and lots of fun, but the Focus is better.

500lbs heavier, 2.0L 50HP+ more HP stock, 70 QT+ more stock, ofcourse its faster, but the Fiesta is alot more fun. Bunch of my friends have the Focus ST, I have the Fiesta ST. Anyways, I prefer out driving them with the lesser car.

Having done Octane Academy and owned a FIST which I've driven hard on some canyon roads, I personally thought the Focus handled better on track. It's a much faster car and it felt much more stable. I found it easier to push hard in, it just felt more confidence inspiring to me. The Fiesta constantly wants to dance and slide around, which makes it a much more fun car to drive on the street IMO. That and the fact you can use almost 100% the power all the time. I was amazed the Focus handled as well as it did though. It's about 500 pounds heavier, but it does have independent rear suspension. IMO the Fiesta ST is sharper, the driving position is a bit better, everything just feels a bit more dialed in. So for canyons, street use, and probably auto X, it's the better/more fun car. On the track, however, I'd rather have the FOST.

I would like to say a few words about David's camera mount now... It was a simple mount, didn't care much for the fancier things in life, more than anything it was reliable, the kinda hardware you want when it's your camera on the line. Now as we lay this beautiful piece of equipment to rest, I would like us all to ctrl+alt+del so we can be with it always...

I can't tell if that noise is the focus or mustang, but what exhaust is on the car David? I'm an owner of a Focus ST and am trying to find an exhaust which doesn't sound too bad

That "oversteer, understeer, oversteer" moment is the car rotating with the back end. It's a little scary at first, but you get used to it after a bit and come to expect it. It sucks when you don't understand it though, because you start correcting in the middle of a rotation on track or AutoX course because you feel like you're about to slide.
