I'm using my voice here to think about articulation and phrasing choice, but of course this applies to all instruments and the ways you choose to articulate. It's always something to be considering and I hope this gives you some ideas for the future!

I only recently started really dedicating myself to learning an instrument (piano) and there’s something nice about seeing someone else practice. Your videos are always calm and inviting. I really enjoy them, plus you have a beautiful voice, and your song “The Loveliest Girl” has been one of my obsessions since it came out. You are a wonderful human and it’s a pleasure seeing you work. Thank you, for everything you do. 🙏

articulation and phrasing choice is a good thing to do, I'm hearing impaired, so I had speech therapy when I was kid, with an English speaking therapist and her word was "effrot effort is the word, and I didn't notice I was saying "effrot instead of effort until someone mentioned it, a few years back, so if you have a kid who needs to exercise with articulation and phrasing, skat is perfect mouth and vocal exercises for when you need speech articulation and phrases. Thanks, Aimee, you have a great addition to your work, and you build and build on everything you attempt to teach.

In earlier recordings of Jazz, horn players used ta to get a more staccato sound. This later became a more legato sound by using da in place of ta.

4:54 "(minor!)" - these little moments, when we can see you reacting to your own performance, are priceless. It's a little bit like sharing a stage with a great musician who is able to perform while carefully listening to and correcting themselves on the fly. Everybody on the stage gets better for it. Thank you for your transparency.

I think it's a healthy and natural and constructive part of the process to start out young wanting to overdo in then mellow out as you mature, than to start out underdoing it and then have to pedal uphill to expand your vocabulary

When you use La, your scats are more wistful and smoothly melodic. This is one of your trademark strengths, that we love. The do and oo scats are stronger and more full of extremes to your range. Different songs and tempos and keyes may prompt different sounds and styles of scatting, eh? It's all good. :)

I like the wee's, woo's, and way's - kinda gives that same sound that saxes get when they push their higher registers, implying a sort of sax instrumentation but from the voice.

I scat along with guitar lines effortlessly because Benson showed us how to do it--you don't need many sounds. But to scat without the constraints of an instrument to guide you... you could invent a whole new language.

Been having singing lessons and my teacher last time told me to focus more on articulation so this came right on time. Totally got a long way to go but really helpful.

How about emphasis. Like singing 'Whennnnnn' instead of 'Wheeeeeen'.

Very nice, Aimee! As great as Ella Fitzgerald was, sometimes she did overreach in the number of syllables, imo. Quincy Jones' song "Back On The Block" comes to mind.
