Thanks Aimee. It’s an easy and kool way to approach to any Tune. By the way…I’m putting it together also on Someday my Prince will come. Is the same concept!
Hello! I love this progression using augmented and diminished chords. I sing it in my head. I've tried twice to buy the .PDF ( so I don't have to write each key progression ) but it doesn't work with Paypal and I don't know if i'm doing something wrong... Anyway, thanks Aimee for this video!!
I love the vision of Cowboy Chords on piano...big hats around a campfire, someone pulls a piano out of a covered wagon and starts jamming. The hip stay awake until dawn. The unhip go to their tents to sleep. The End (uh, I mean the beginning).
Listened to this video several times and it gets better each time. Also I realize how great Donald is as a songwriter and also what an amazing breakdown this is . Aimee so glad to see someone who appreciates this song as much as I do.
Not that I would call myself even a muso, but I instantly recognised his sound & had never heard of him. Wonderful presentation thanks :) Wishing health & happiness to you & yours in 24 & beyond :)
I'm a pianist and I love Donald in every way. This is the best harmonic analysis I have ever heard. Better even than some of the interviews Donald gave explaining "josie" for example. You're very good.
Are you surprised? We are witness to the JS Bach of our time, who is also a fairly great bass player and an amazing singer. We will all be envied by future generations for living when he was around.
wow, i guess i'm the weird guy that stumbled in the side door - I've been enjoying "Looking for the Answers" for almost 5 yrs, now, and just today found out that you have a youtube channel 😂
do the melody notes help to figure the chord? I can't hear those bass notes. But good to know that is the way you do it. I think about the melody notes and that helps a little.
This is such a great idea. Got long drives to a couple of gigs this weekend and have been looking for ways to work on my ear whilst in the car for 4 hours!
Thanks for sharing your experience Aimee, I really appreciate it! I came at learning my instrument (guitar) from the opposite direction, memorizing the patterns and then (sometimes mindlessly) running through the shapes I knew while the chords were changing. I often got frustrated and always wished I could play more creatively/melodically like some of my friends. It's only the last few years that I've worked on my ear training and trying to vocalize more (although, I still really struggle with "singing"). I can definitely see the benefit of both types of learning.
My mother who recently passed away played Carole's albums Writer, Tapestry and Music all the time when they came out in the early 1970s. When I think of her, I think of Carole King's music.
I am totally speechless. This is the most moving and inspirational video I have ever watched. The compilation of musicians using Floyd’s style actually brought me to tears! YOU have truly created a masterpiece and because of that I will never forget your name also.
Paul's vocal versatility was greatest while he was with the Beatles. After he left, maybe his voice was starting to get worn out. But when with the Beatles he sounded different on every song, and all his voices were gorgeous. I think he never used his voice is quite the same way. He never used "techniques" -- or to put it differently, he constantly transformed vocal techniques in subtle ways. When he roared, it was never quite the same roar. When he sang softly, it was never the same way twice. And in between those extremes, he had vocal styles in the middle, neither roaring, nor feminine softness, but a masculine forceful voice somewhere in the middle.
What a great video high-lighting the phenomenal career of Carole King. Your speaking and singing voice is really beautiful and your musical knowledge impressive as well!
Just an advanced beginner guitar player. Aprreciate the video. But what gives non blues that bluesy sound? Is it hitting the flat 3 or flat 5 or is it the movement of notes. A solo that comes to mind that sounds bluesy, but I don't thiink it is. Is Steely Dan's Bad Sneakers. Walter Becher's sols sounds bluesy
Heck, I was getting some Myron Floren vidbs there and checking Wikipedia it turns out Cory Pesaturo got his start filling in for an ill Myron Floren at the former Warwick Music Theater in Rhode Island at age 11. That's just great!
Thank you for doing this! i LOVE Smokey Robinson! One of my all-time musical heroes! He doesn't get nearly enough credit! His songwriting craft was just intuitively brilliant! One extraordinary song you left out (probably because the title was so long!) is "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage". The lyric is so beautifully evocative, with all these wonderful metaphors coming together so cohesively. He's really an American treasure!
Check out my very old video about Real Books. It’s usually best to use your ears as much as possible…but there is a time and place for reading/using charts.
@AimeeNolteMusic - Remember that you are a unique human in this world. Your music is about you and no one else. As I listen to your story I do not see "What I Got Wrong About Jazz". Every musician finds there voice in the way they can given how they were "raised" and their own internal "genius". Rejoice in the genius that you are. I have told my students that they should celebrate their musical journey. Each time you learn something new celebrate it and rejoice. We are on this life affirming journey. (I learned much of this from the amazing Jazz Guitarist, Joe Diorio about 40 years ago) Check out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7gzCXqUP5pk.html
