Great review, and very interesting and appealing wallet. Been shopping for weeks coming from a Dash 3.0 (LOVED, had it for 5+ years, but want to try something new), waffling between Bellroys and Distils and some smaller leather shops, and I finally pulled the trigger on this one. It's SO hard to find that balance of form, functionality, and aesthetics, but this one checks a lot of boxes for me. I'm generally not a fan of elastics on wallets, but it's used so well here, with leather, that I changed my mind. Little thing, but 500 bytes is about .5 kb, not 5 kb 👍 Great reviews in general. Keep it up!
Thank you SO much for expanding your list of currencies you talk about. As someone from the uk, it’s so much better for me to know if gbp will work (especially up to the £50 note). I’ve noticed that your reviews have got much more in depth which is so helpful. I’ve now started recommending this channel and your explore web page on some men’s style Facebook groups when the topic of wallets comes up. Happy 2021 everybody! David
Love your reviews and have bought a lot of the wallets you review. I preferred the old theme music and have grown accustomed to it, wish you'd go back to using it again.
Mark, a suggestion when looking at very dark/black wallets. The camera might be able to pull more detail if there is less total range in the frame. So something like a gray or black cloth over the white table might actually result in more detail being visible on dark wallets. I know some other RU-vid channels that use that trick. Edit: Actually the backdrop might be a good color to try.
Great review! Your review for this wallet was very professional. That being said, even with the functionality of the wallet, it is over-priced and because of the elastic, it is not designed to last.
Happy New Year! The new intro is terrific as well as the background music 🎵🎵🎵. I like this wallet, but I'm very impressed with the built in NFC. I wonder if other companies will copy them? I thought Nomad's tile was cool, but this is even better. Have a healthy 2021. 🎆
Great review - very thorough and it clearly shows an improvement on their previous wallets. It's still no Trove though - folded cash, not as easy to get into, much less space!
Like the design, it seems really well thought out; but I agree with another commenter, anything with an elastic is going to have a limited lifespan. The veg tan leather feels like overkill for something that's effectively going to be disposable.
Longer than a few years I would agree, elastic has a limited lifespan. I do like wallets that allow you to conduct maintenance on them so in the event the elastic breaks you can fix it.
That’s nifty new tunes I hear when you filled the wallet 👍🏻 Thx for the review Mark 🙂 (I still dislike the background music whilst you’re talking though. Never like that)
Do you think this woulf be a good wallet for someone studying at uni in london. The ncf sounds good for use as an oyster csrd and i don’t have a ton of cards.
I have some ideas on how this thing could be improved as i have been using it and think there’s some design flaws: When you put bills on the video the flap is on your right, very logic if you are right handed, so the coin opening is below and coins would fall if any inside. Maybe it’s a design decision: whether to acces cards or bills on the right side. I would have placed the coin opening on the oposite side. The NFC chip can’t be read properly if you have some coins into the coin pocket as the coins interfere with the chip. Pull strap could be improved too as you mentioned: it could be wider. It also feels weird to me when you pull to access the cards are below the pull strap itself and not over it. The folded bills fall from the wallet when you open it as they have not enough room to be inserted properly unless you insert them the way you showed which is weird and unnatural.
I have the Singular Leather wallet and wish it had a pull strap as well. I fold the top flap down behind the cards to secure the pouch and make all the cards quickly accessible on the outside. Tuck cash behind the cards, infront of the flap. It’s been hard to beat the Singular for me, it just does to much and to well. Don’t get it wet though, I did the glue started to give real quick. Unfortunate.
Dig the new intro 👌👏. Wallet looks familiar. Where have we seen this leather and elastic combo? Looks like a slightly modified Trove. Elastic wears poorly. Trayvax contour titanium still in my pocket...
The FOCX folks have different wallets, but are essentially variations on a theme, so it's a matter of determining the set of features you like most in the essentially the same footprint and construction/materials. But yes, the TROVE and FOCX folks have very similar platforms.
@@walletopia I'm actually using the bottle opener on my Contour... Thought that feature was useless. Was in Mexico having a coke, they serve bottles. Opened some bubbly on new years. Who would have thought? Wallet just keeps getting better.
Got one recently. It looks stylish but it's not that usable, actually. The rings are not stitched to the straps and they move around which is quite annoying. You need to fold and unfold your banknotes every time you use one and that's just not convenient. The coin pouch can't hold more than 3 coins and you don't see what's stored inside. The only thing that can be done quickly is accessing one or two credit cards which is a clever idea. But overall it feels like minimalism just for the sake of it and it's not a wallet for everyday use. A person who doesn't ever need cash and only carries a couple of plastic cards can just as well use a rubber band.
Great review I wonder how long that elastic would last on the wallet and I don't like the strap getting caught in the quick access and the way it carries cash but I like the coin slot good idea other than that thanks for the review Mark
Great review . In the past their video ads are hard to figure out how the wallet is constructed( some i think they try to hide how basic/ cheaply made it is).. great that you really show how its built and how it fuctions, focx i the past are a bit pricey for an elastic wallet that tries to cover it up with a piece of leather,... Trove still is the best in this area and the design is far superior and great. Thatnk you again mark!.
Just got mine from Kickstarter and I have to it's the minimalist wallet I've been looking for. It's not perfect but it comes very close. Very few minimalist wallet can handle coins and it's rare to find one that can store it well. I do agree with your method of storing notes as their method always ends up with unsightly notes sticking out a bit.
Great review Mark as always. The cash though can go at the back behind the elastic band holding the cards. I have checked it and use it that way and then it does not interfere with the cards. The cash is also meant to go in that place. You'll be surprised that behind the card pocket there is another small pocket where the cash goes in actually.
I just pulled it out and looked more closely and mine does not have another slot behind. I wish we could post pictures in comment, oh well, when opened, the main elastic is attached to the leather in the back, then immediately below that is where the pull strap is anchored. Even in FOCX's video's it shows them gingerly trying to insert it in the back with no success :).
Mark, thank you for clarification regarding the cash issue. I looked at my R1 and cash goes in easily and similarly the video you did on their R2 also shows cash easily going in . This C02 for me is a downgrade from their previous R series because of cash limitations . I would still prefer R1 or R2 over this C series .
With these strap-type wallets, why does nobody open them by flipping the whole flapcover incl. strap over to the back? I find they are easier to put back that way, because you can grip a loose strap instead of trying to squeeze the flap under the strap.
Same experience, I've seen shipping from Germany to be very slow. I had an order from Italy arrive in 3 days, so I'm not sure what's going on with Deutsche Post
@@walletopia Deutsche Post is the privatized former Federal Postal Service of Germany. DHL is supposed to be their express parcel division. That means anytime your shipping method is called "Deutsche Post" instead of "DHL", it means it will be much slower. That's even the case if you are ordering something in Germany, as the mailing service does not have the same parcel capacities and priorities as the express parcel service DHL. I recently ordered something via Deutsche Post and I had to wait a week longer as a German. On the other hand, their shipping costs are only half the price of DHL.
Can you do a video where you compare different wallets of same type? Like your best 5 zipper wallet and how do they compare; dimensions, capacity, weight, quality, price.
Hey there! I've been watching your videos and love them. I've checked out the Walletopia website, and appreciate everything that's on there, but I was wondering about something you maybe could implement on the site: sorting wallets by features. Let's say I'm looking for a very specific kind of wallet, but don't know what all is out there with those features. Let's say I want it to hold cash that you only fold once going in, I'd like it to hold coins, I want it to have a quick pull tab for a card, but maybe I don't care about RFID or a key loop or something. It would be wonderful to check off criteria and conduct a search on your site that tells me which wallets have these, what other features they have, their prices, and their Walletopia ratings. It would be wonderful if you could add something like this to your site!
Hi Mack, it's coming! I'm in a major data element upgrade to the Explore site that will allow you to sort by many granular features. Those results will, of course, lead back to reviews you can watch. I would expect it to be live in less than 30 days.
Great review. The new opening is great! Not a fan of the wallet, though. Too much elastic and just seems like they are trying to do too much in a small package.
It would annoy me had I to pull the string and unfold bills all the time. Nothing beats the simplicity of a no coin, no fold cash, 3 credit cards, bifold. Simple, slim. No hassle. This one? Fiddle toy.
Bought it today. Terrible wallet. Elastic parts will get loose in no time. The NFC is not readable. It comes with no instructions whatsoever. I will be using cards and cash because it's full of holes. I regret buying it.
Terrible wallet. Elastic everywhere. Looks confusing, and tangly. Elastic straps won't last. The key/coin slot is irresponsible. Things are bound to slide out of there. And the so-called cash slot is a joke afterthought. One of the worst wallets I've ever seen. I would legitimately rather use a brocolli elastic band
