Foggy Mountain Breakdown is a challenge for fiddle players because of its extreme speed. In this bluegrass fiddle lesson I demonstrate that the actual banjo melody is virtually unplayable on the violin, so you have to find some way to translate it to playable fiddle patterns. I show a very simple fiddle break based on the Nashville Shuffle, look at the Paul Warren solos from the Flatt and Scruggs recording, and suggest a solo of my own. I also try improvising a solo. Throughout this tuition video I use onscreen sheet music, and a free pdf copy is available to subscribers. I play everything at different speeds, attempting to work up to the full speed of the original recording.
