The principle of the operation shown at ~1'13" is wrong. Interesting, that the same guy from the same MartinLoganSpeakers shows in another video the correct operating principle of the folded diaphragm.

I have some AMT-1s. I like that the tweeter is mounted on top, as sound comes out the back of it, too. These are just speakers, I don't think there is a need to get militant about this. ;-) OK, well, they are *amazing* speakers, but still speakers, haha. It is truly a pleasure just to sit down in front of them and listen to music. I don't have the money to shop around for something better than a Sansui AU-9500 + AMT-1s, so that is what I use. Price was right at $0 (father decided to part with them 20 years after I first asked, I felt like I'd won the lottery). If I'm going to pay for anything, it will probably be to have ESS refurbish my speakers. The only thing that matters is how it sounds to you vs. price, really. I'm curious to hear these speakers, though.

@blackened 1 I think the increased frequency range might be advantageous especially because sound is emitted from the back and the front of the diaphragm. There is a sense of depth u get from these (original AMT) that is really hard to explain.

Well, these and ALL AMT's are from Dr. Heil (ESS). Designed yearsss ago.

I believe the patent expired a long time ago. I think patents are for 25 years.

ESS bought the patent from Dr. Oskar Heil in 1972. There are several companies producing Heil's AMT (Air Motion Transformer) today.

SERIOUSLY?? This is a re-invention of the ESS Heil Air Motion Transformer. I don't blame Martin Logan for wanting to copy the AMT - the AMT is the very greatest tweeter ever made. It out-performs ESLs and MagPans, but let's give credit where credit is due.

Lots of people have copied the Heil AMTs over the years, but, most of them acknowledge the originator of this truly different speaker. NOT Martin Logan, indeed there is inference in much of their marketing material that they created the concept - SHAME on them! Disclosure, I owned a set of ESS AMT1 Towers from new (the transmission line version of the AMT1s), I still have the tweeters and they are still going strong. The transmission line base unit was not well built, also, I had to build a raised platform for my listening seat to get in line with the centre of the vertical dispersion pattern. Not a well-thought-out speaker, I sometimes wonder why I bought them over the AMT1s... apart from the (IMHO) superior sound. :-)>
