I’m going to be honest: Throughout my entire history of playing every BN game, it never occurred to me to build a mono-coded chip folder. I feel like a complete idiot as I feel this would have made many of the bosses and other challenges in the franchise so much easier. 🤦 Thanks for the tip! And I didn’t know Plantman has a Breaking effect. That’s pretty cool.

Believe me, you're far from being the only person to not make mono-coded folders. It took me a few years to realize I should be focusing on folders with one code max, and as soon as I started going S-code only in BN5 the game got so much easier

@@ProtoDemnProductions Especially BN5 as I feel that the Liberation Missions would have been alot easier if I used that strategy. The ironic thing is that despite this, I still enjoyed it and playing BN5, as a whole, on my DS alot. XD

MMBN1 really makes this easy to do. The game being so easy that just farming the chip trader for every Herosword/Big Wave/Gaia was enough to S-bust every navi in the game. This got alot harder in BN2 especially with hard mode, and the Strong G coded chips steering you in a direction (From Gutshoot to eventually to GATER...). I think by BN3 if you didn't build Mono-code specifically for virus/navi hunting you could have a miserable time trying to complete it.

@@ProtoDemnProductions well i never went monofolder, cause i ended up playing pvp, but really quickly throu pvp, my group learned having monocode, or like 3-4 codes were a good strat, idr the folder off the top of my head, but it was like, roll/muramasa/Protoman/gutsman&meteors is a good combo, life aura,it would also depend on the opponents style if they were wood, id add lava stage volcano, blackbomb, etc, its was kinda like living folder but eventually, you hit a limit in possible chips/navicust/styles so it got boring eventually....the crux of the folder were what chips are good for pvp, and what allows a good flow, having 1 code being 8 chips deep, while 4 others are 5 chips, gave some fludity to the game, you could add or play them.

This is probably less optimal for BN2 than Gater or LifeSword 3 spam but on a recent play through of 2 I’ve fallen in love with SnakeMan You start with AreaGrab S and can get a few in * Code. PanelOut 3 * is easy to get during the mid game for when you can build the folder and once you get to the post game you can get 3 Geddon 2 S The main strength of SnakeMan is because he’s a Navi and BN2 has no restriction on chip classes you can pump him up with things like multiple attack/Navi plus 20’s along with +30 and Navi +40 once you get them. The thing genuinely shreds through almost every boss in the game with the exception of ones like Pharaohman or Planetman Being S code means you can also use things like BodyGuard. It’s a lot of the same theory as Plantman

I'm always a huge fan of the G-Code chips. Mostly because its a solid entry level folder and very easy to make. Once you know how to perform Guts Shoot, you can carry that knowledge with you throughout Battle Networks 1-3 for the early game. Alongside that, BN1 gets also gets access to Storm in G-Code, while BN2 gets the absolute ridiculousness that is Gater.

Having just played through BN2, Gater was an obvious choice for getting through the story but i really enjoyed this folder for post game: (all credit to Sealed_Lance from his gamespot walkthrough for this folder) 5 FireBlde R 5 AquaBlde R 5 ElecBlde R 2 AreaGrab * 5 FullCust * PRESET 1 Roll R 1 RollV2 R 1 RollV3 R 3 Invis3 * 2 FstGauge * It's pretty easy to build with some slight gospel duping to get enough copies of each chip easier, and it's incredibly fast. My favorite part about this build though is being able to replace the blades with any other set of 3 chips for any other program advance, i frequently switched to an UltraBomb setup for S ranking multiple enemy encounters and the Protecto viruses. The Disco Inferno folder in BN3 was also great fun to use.

I love finding a good mono-code folder, I eliminate codes at the start and work towards 2 codes, then 1 code with an advance that may go outside the code is my usual. Then sometimes I go for a messier folder if I'm up against a boss or viruses that counter my mono folder, this just happened in MMbN5. Got an amazing S/* folder really quickly, with chips such as ShademanSP, Air Hockey, Lifesword, Super Vulcan, +10's, Mark Cannon, Fan and Steal. Turns out CloudMan doesn't agree to get sucked in by Fans, despite what you might think, and I start with 2 against 4 columns with Fan as regular chip... He also doesn't seem to want to take too much of Super Vulcan's hits. I could return with Steal as regular and copy-dmg/life synch changed out, maybe pull my 2nd Steal at an opportune time if I'm lucky to uxe Shademan etc., but I'd rather just use a messier folder with high dmg chips like Guardian, then build around the codes I end up with if I can. This does mean program advances are harder to cycle towards, it's all trade-offs, but it's hard either way when there's the 3 turn limit.

I'll definitely end up doing BN5 S-code folders as soon as I can in this series! Not sure that it would be one helpful in Liberation missions though I may mention good chips for liberations when I eventually get to making a video about them in the future
@Gnurklesquimp2
@Gnurklesquimp2 Год назад
@@ProtoDemnProductions That'd be pretty awesome! I think they changed this on the DS version, but sadly you can't change chips during liberation, and you can only try the boss at the end, so I feel that'd be pretty valuable. I guess the main takeaway is to go in without a major weakness if you don't know what's ahead, my folder basically consisted of gimmicks that either didn't work well or not at all, entire draws with 0 chip dmg back to back.

I'm really liking metal man when I just learned that you could position him basically wherever you want while the screen is dimmed. Obviously it's not as strong but it's fun. I really like using an area grab and then meteor with a couple +10s. Or geddon with snake and +10s. I'm playing through 3 after playing through 5 and finding it a lot easier than 5 was but that's probably because I'm fresh with all the practice. 5 really taught me to use one code folders by force. There's no way to get past some of the later game content without streamlining. So with all that practice number 3 is a lot easier than it was in my childhood playthrough all those years ago.

In a game with the add function and custom navi cust blocks, mono-code folders are often overkill. If you *are* going to try BN3 pvp, adding in a second letter code won't immediately brick you. If only because you might want another PA or backup chips in case your opponent directly counters you. Edit: that said, mono chip would deincentivise the need for custom 1 and 2 so you can add in other navi custom blocks like superarmor or tango.

I feel like the P code can be further optimized by focusing on the Elec element instead of Plantman, using said Plantman as a support chip. Here's my current P code folder. 2x ZapRing 1 P 4x Plasma3 P 4x Sensor 1 P 4x Sensor3 P 4x MetaGel2 P 1x Plantman P 1x Plantman v2 P 1x Plantman v3 P 1x Plantman v4 P 1x IceStage * (Regular Chip) 4x Elec+30 * 1x FullCust * 1x Atk+30 * (optional if using team style or hub batch) 1x FoldrBak * This folder is inspired by the infamous Flashman folder, making stunning the opponent with high damage its focus. Since Elec chips deal double damage on ice panels, and Plasma3 and Sensor3 hit five times, this deals massive damage while stunning the opponent. This folder is mostly for S ranking navis. I find from personal experience S++ ranking viruses that there are better codes for them. E for BubbleSprd and/or J for HeatSprd program advances. (J also has access to Prism which is nice) F is for fantastic with its access to Spice2 and Spice3, BlkBomb 1, VarSwrd, AntiDmg, Aura, and most importantly, extra copies of CopyDmg. As you could probably guess, I love folder building.

4:49 While I generally agree... invis is a strong chip especially in PVP. Super Armor is so easy to come by in this game with the Mod Tools/Guts Style/Hub Batch that you really don't need to worry about losing rank to taking hits, as its completely negated by the SA effect, and you can focus on just pumping as much damage as possible with more sensor 3's. Kicking navi's out of flinch is usually a bit stronger than avoiding damage.
@CantusTropus
@CantusTropus Год назад
Yeah, it wasn't until very recently that I learned that it isn't taking damage that reduces your rank, it's actually flinching. With Super Armor on, you can get hit down to 1 hp and it won't affect your busting level at all.

I'm still bew ti battle network and was hoping you'd cover balance. Like fir yu-gi-oh you usually have as a rule of thumb spells and traps each taking 1/3rd of the deck with monsters taking 1/2. At the moment I've only played BN1, taking a break, and at the end before the bass fight I just through together a messy b code deck because at that point I spent a week grinding chip exchanger for the double hero advanced and i only got 5 hero sword b chips and only one copy of the others before giving up. Again a week of grinding
@ProtoDemnProductions
@ProtoDemnProductions Год назад
Make sure you save before you use the chip trader or open Mystery Dats in BN1!!! There's no autosave on chip trader in that game, that might help a little with the grind There's not that many real staple chips that belong in every folder the way there is in YGO. If anything, I'd sat that any defensive chips in * code like Invis are good to keep in any folder, but outside of that it really depends on the Chip code you're using for your folder. If you're running B Code, Bubble Wrap comes in that code and is a defensive option. Invis 3 comes in that code as well. The swords should be good enough offensive power as well.

@@ProtoDemnProductions I don't know if I'll go back to fight bass, think I'll just move on to 2 when I'm ready XD. And yeah I save before using the chip trader, trade 3 pulls then reset ir save if i get what i needed. But I get what you're saying, just try to mono or duo code, and use support chips that limit damage or assists attack type. Can't wait to have steap * codes. I really liked the regular swords earky bn1 and the supporting steal s chip being trade only was annoying.

@@supersayainasriel6745 the best advice i can give you, is 1 look up how chips work, i played MMBN3 when it came out, i never knew how spore worked. granted when the game released videos werent out. some chips have gimmicks. research them, what is needed to set them up, are they part of a program advance. so some chips require a setup, which could be difficult, some require no effort, like meteors, its like 40x9, thats 360, but it attacks all 9 panels for 40, but if you break 8 of their panels, thats 360. it just takes understanding how to use chips effectively. 2nd there are chips that depend on your style, like team style allows more mega chips. so that defines your folder as well. if you like grass style for its ability to heal its hp on grass panels, you might build a folder around what codes grassstage comes in. it really depends on your playstyle. 3, staples are weird in mmbn, each game is like a unique version of a deck of cards. each game has different "staples"in some games. i think recovery 300, is the largest recovery chip, depending on the game, affects its codes, but lets say you pick MMBN3, and it had 6 codes available, none are *, so you look at the 6 codes its part off, and you start comparing which letter has more chips you like, which do you feel offer a way to attack/defend. id usually pair it with roll v3, cause it does like 180 damage/heals, someone went with a different code to get zeushammer, it depends on play style, granted the reason i went with roll, was cause i couldnt see where the mines were placed. if you wanna play competitively, that means researching the metas, if you wanna play for fun, build it in a way you enjoy. but for pvp, antinavi/antidmg/antirecovery are useful, antisword is more niche, cause what if your opponent doesnt use sword chips, but your opponent is probably gonna use a navi chip they deal alot of dmg/effects, antidmg covers any attack, antirecv, your opponent might heal, theres a few staples, cause they come in handy.
