When it gets half the price, half the size, can be connected to Google/Alexa & feed the clothes itself, I'll shut up & give them my money... Until then, I'll stick to folding on my own, sigh

Yeah... until then this machine is futile attempt to make laundry folding look high tech... Maybe someday they come up with fully automatic device integrated to washing machine or dryer
@DOGMA1138
@DOGMA1138 5 лет назад
This is likely never going to end up at homes, but if you integrate it with an industrial washer/dryer then it would take out one of the biggest costs of large laundry operations as well as make a laundromats much more attractive again, you dump your clothes into a basket before going to work then pick them up washed and folded after work without needing a person involved or you having to take that washer/dryer for the entire workday. One of the major reasons laundromats aren't as popular they could be and why laundry services are popping up everywhere is that people don't have 2-3 hours to spend waiting for their clothes are washed and dried.

I prefer waiting for a washing machine from a major company like Samsung that wash, dry, then fold my clothes. That would be awesome and big time saver

The company might want to create a foldi mate machine to fold sheets too, and socks underwear etc etc, its all convenience and more potential customers.. And if the technology evolves even further then combine washing, drying along with it, then you have something long term on your hands.

You know, there are a lot of speacialized gadgets these days, but when some company figures out how to make a robot with two hands that can navigate a household and use regular tools, it's going to make all of these obsolete.
@Katzelle3
@Katzelle3 5 лет назад
Purely from a speed and an energy efficiency standpoint, it won't. Eventually those devices become super cheap, or they get integrated into other devices. This folding contraption could eventually become a component inside a washer dryer combo that sorts and packages clothing items for delivery to guest rooms. You could have a walking robot make the delivery, but something as simple as a rolling platform that communicates with an elevator would still be more efficient at it. An android is only useful when a distinctively human form of communication or interaction is absolutely necessary. And while current tools are designed around human interaction, the investment into an android only becomes viable when: 1) It is impossible to replace a human interface component with digital communication: Not true. Any button, switch, lever or dial can be replaced with something as simple as a sticker. And such tools would be capable of multimodal interaction, which means that manual control is still possible, even when the use of mechanical components over digital components would results in a greater likelihood of component failure. 2) Mechanical wear does not exist and all physical items last forever: As much as someone wants to believe that their machines never need to be repaired or replaced will sooner or later face the fact that everything breaks down eventually, at which point they'd have to choose to replace or repair their device. If they choose to replace then at one point they'll end up with a device that is capable to multimodal interaction. If they choose to repair, then it would be difficult to argue against modifications to improve performance, and if they already modify why not also provide a multimodal interface, which isn't even that difficult to integrate. 3) The return of investment of a new android with all expenses and power consumption is high enough to justify neither making relatively simple modifications to the interfaces of your tools, nor hiring independent workers for services: That will depend on the price and the costs of maintenance for a new android.

Life Improvements just like people never thought the internet would be a thing? This is a first gen of a machine that will surely eventually be in everyones home. It’s a move towards automating all mundane parts of our lives so we can have more time to use facebook/instagram/all other social media crap and sell us a fantasy world that doesn’t exist :)
@Ms2cents
@Ms2cents 5 лет назад
Personally I thought it was dumb at first but then I thought about how much time it will save me. I do mine and my boyfriend’s laundry and between the two of us, it’s time consuming. I know I don’t have to do his laundry but I don’t mind it. I just don’t like folding. Imagine if you have kids too. You’re really going to save so much time and be more productive. You can free up and do other things like spending time with your friends and family instead of taking countless hours just folding clothes. This is like the same thing as when washing machines and dishwasher was invented and it empowered women to multi task and do other things like having careers instead of spending all day at home doing house chores.

Next would be to build that into a all in one machine that can even match socks after it washes and dries everything, and even applies deodorants to the underarm areas inside of shirts so people don't have to bother with any of that ever again. We all know people who skipped putting on deodorant before racing to get to work, then you have to put up with their disgusting smell. It could apply deodorant to the underwear too and would cancel out the farts.
