Foldimate, an automatic laundry-folding machine, aims to make life easier by doing much of the work for you. While the device made an appearance at CES last year as a non-working machine, at CES 2019 the company debuted an actual working prototype with a slimmer design. I got a chance to take it for a spin, and while it worked well, I left the experience asking myself: Is this product really necessary?

You still need to “feed” in the shirts piece by piece.. I would prefer something where you could just toss the whole bucket inside and it comes out folded..

The gap between the washing machine and drier was small relative to how long we’ve been waiting for the folder. It’s a tougher problem to solve but it can be done.

This product is absolutely necessary. Folding laundry’s my absolute most loathed chore. As we speak I am sitting on my bed surrounded by half folded laundry. My bottom drawer of my dresser is over flowing with unfolded laundry I just dumped there.

If it could fold the elastic band sheets from a king size bed, this would be impressive. I believe that those ghosts covered with white sheets we see on movies were people that died trying to fold them and never succeded!

You still have to button up shirts and fold pants in half before you can put them in the machine. This company has been to 3 CES shows and has not produced any product yet. You would think after being founded in 2012 they would be in production by now but they still cannot give a release date.

This one in the video is going to be around $1000. It might be more. It is not the commercial version. They don't have a commercial version yet. They will make that in the future.

Clothes that need to be ironed would be hung up using hangers anyway. This is mostly for t-shirts, underwear, shorts, and jeans

Cool, but not quite there yet. Faster than by hand sure, but folding boards and similar tools are much cheaper than this thing will be. It's all about touch time with consumers, they want something that can be independent, even if it takes longer. I'd rather have a machine that can fold a load of laundry without input from me, even if it takes hours.

Not only do you have to stand there and feed it but did you look at the shirts ? You have to prep all your shirts before you can put them in, you have to make sure the shirt is not inside out and button every button on the shirt.

This machine is basically useless because it still requires you to stand there and load things in manually while it is operating. They should make it so you can just put all your laundry in at once and it automatically does all the loading and folding for you, then it will actually be useful.

Well, I can see it come in handy when having to fold a lot of laundry. It can also be handy when you don't quite have a proper folding area. This machine doesn't take up too much space. Unlike a table or counter where you have to fold and stack clothing that tend to take up quite a bit of room.

In 2019, China successfully landed on the other side of the Moon, SpaceX can land a rocket and re-use them, Amazon one day shipping, self-driving cars and...a prototype of a laundry folding machine that still requires more of your time to get your laundry folded by standing there feeding the machine the clothes?? I hate folding clothes, what I hate more is paying for a machine that I have to stand there and do half the work and more of my time. Not to mention the space that thing is going to take. Folding clothes is not hard labor, its time consuming and boring. Feeding the shirt to the machine you might as well just fold it yourself.

I think if you know how much power a normal 110 volt wall outlet can provide, it should be a pretty good indicator that it can't possibly take too much power to run. Plus, it's not like you will be running that thing straight for 2 hours straight every single day.
